Reflections is a musical portrayal of the people and moments in our lives which shape and change us. Musical elements from various sources are woven into a rich tapestry of sounds and colors that show the full expressive range of the band. Perfect for contest and festivals! Reflections by Robert Langenfeld, was commissioned by a consortium (alumni/friends/family/UCM Bands/ CTS Pubs) for Dr. Russell Coleman in celebration of his 90th birthday and his service as director of bands at the University of Central Missouri (CMSU) for 32 years. Langenfeld was given guidelines for the composition which included a clarinet soli (Coleman is a clarinetist), excerpts from Dance Prelude (commissioned by Dr. Coleman and the UCM Phi Mu Alpha chapter, written by Claude T. Smith for the CMSU (UCM) Band in 1978), the UCM Alma Mater and the UCM fight song, Go Mules. This work was premiered on June 17, 2018 by the Warrensburg Community Band, under guest conductor, Dr. Anthony Pursell, at the 2018 Missouri Bandmasters Association Summer Convention at Tan-Tar-A in Osage Beach, MO. Dr. Russell Coleman has been the conductor for the Warrensburg Community Band since 1985.

The French-speaking Flemish singer, composer and lyricist Jacques Brel was born in Brussels in 1929. In the 1950s, he broke away from his bourgeois social background of his family and started an artist’s life in Paris, where he initially wrote chansons and earned a living by performing in small cabarets and bars. Over the following years he achieved worldwide fame with his chansons, which were alternately harsh and melancholic Roland Kernen has selected a number of the wonderful chansons written by this most creative artist to produce this unforgettable chanson medley.

It never feels like Christmas until the music starts playing. Seems like we just can't get enough of those familiar carols that consistently bring back happy memories year after year, and enkindle excitement for yet another season of joy ahead with friends and family. Instantly recognizable Christmas standards, Deck the Hall and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas (along with a hint of Jingle Bells at the beginning and at the end), come together in this lighthearted medley, Have a Swingin' Merry Christmas, by Douglas E. Wagner, arranged in a laid-back swing groove. This one is sure to put a smile on Santa's face! (1:45) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

The opportunity to compose this piece came to me during my second year as a composition student at Texas Christian University. A family from Big Spring, a small town in West Texas, reached out to one of my high school choir directors, Ms. Kathryn Zetterstrom, and asked if she knew any composers for a project. Thankfully, she sent them my information. The project was created specifically to celebrate the 80th birthday of Jobeth Corwin, the family's matriarch. For the text, the family asked me to set her favorite psalm and a psalm loved by many: Psalm 121. Jobeth Corwin was a lifelong chorister who sang the alto part in any choir she was a member of, so to start the piece, I began with a solo intended for an alto voice. While this is my preference, the solo can be sung by any treble voice.I sincerely hope you enjoy this piece and it brings joy to all who hear and sing it!
