| Suite Violin and Piano Boosey and Hawkes
Piano Accompaniment; Violin (Violin/Piano) SKU: HL.48025445 For Violin...(+)
Piano Accompaniment; Violin (Violin/Piano) SKU: HL.48025445 For Violin and Piano. Composed by Hans Winterberg. Boosey and Hawkes Chamber Music. Classical. Softcover. Duration 420 seconds. Boosey and Hawkes #M202538852. Published by Boosey and Hawkes (HL.48025445). ISBN 9783793145820. UPC: 196288216438. Hans Winterberg's extraordinary life was written in two chapters, one Czech and one German, split right down the middle by the experience of the Shoah, which Winterberg, unlike his colleagues Ullmann, Krása, Haas and Klein, miraculously survived. In 1947, the Prague-born composer moved to Munich, where he worked for the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. As a student of Alexander Zemlinsky and Alois Hába, he belongs both to the Czech tradition following Janácek and to the circle of the Second Viennese School. He saw himself as a bridge builder between Western and Eastern culture. The circumstances under which Winterberg was able to compose during the war years are still unclear. Although his “mixed marriage” initially saved him from deportation, he had to perform forced labour and was eventually sent to the Terezin ghetto in January 1945. The Suite for Violin and Piano was composed in 1942, the year in which both Winterberg's mother and his piano professor Thérèse Wallerstein were murdered by the Nazis. Compared to the violin sonata from 1936, the Suite is much more condensed, lasting less than seven minutes. A melody dominated by chromatic turns and expressionist harmony lend the work its melancholy character, which gives way, however, to an almost irrepressible defiance in the rhythmically percussive last movement. $26.99 - See more - Buy online

| Organ Works Organ [Score] Breitkopf & Härtel
Organ SKU: BR.EB-9306 Urtext - Critical Source Edition of the Free Org...(+)
Organ SKU: BR.EB-9306 Urtext - Critical Source Edition of the Free Organ Works. Composed by Dietrich Buxtehude. Edited by Harald Vogel. Solo instruments; Softbound. Edition Breitkopf. Renaissance/early Baroque; Baroque. Score. 84 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9306. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9306). ISBN 9790004187708. 12 x 9 inches. This edition is the result of Harald Vogel's many years of practice as an organist and musicologist. The music text is based on a reevaluation of 17th- and 18th-century manuscripts containing the free organ and keyboard works by Buxtehude. They originated during a transitional phase between the traditional letter tablature and the staff notation still in use today. Since many works have survived only in transcriptions for staff notation, the editor was confronted with a high error rate, which he carefully analyzes in the Einzelanmerkungen. During the preparation of the edition, the editor always kept sight of the performance practice, but still, the image of the sources is never distorted (e. g. by superfluous rests, beaming not conforming to the sources and the unhistorical adjustment of time signatures) and stays very close to the compositional notation, the letter tablature. The flexible use of three staves and the differentiated distribution of the voices on the staves allow for an approximation in reading conventions of historical notation with its resulting information about hand division. Grouping the free organ repertoire into works with obbligato pedal and works for manuals, this edition is organized in two volumes. The first subvolume (I/1, EB 9304) contains the Preface and the Preludes, whereas the second subvolume (I/2, EB 9305) contains Toccatas, Ostinato works, alternative versions and a comprehensive Critical Commentary (in German only). Volume II (EB 9306) contains Buxtehude's free organ and keyboard works (manualiter) with the corresponding texts (Preface and Critical Commentary).Until 1971, Harald Vogel worked on a dissertation (with Georg von Dadelsen, Hamburg) on Die Fuge um Bach. Besides the description of the inclusion of triple measures into the C notation and the irregularities of the voice mutation in the polyphonic structures, this also included a discussion about the justification of the inner textual criticism. With the inner textual criticism, deviations in parallel passages are unified. The North German fugue style, reaching a peak in Buxtehude's work, is characterized by a constant diversity of details in subject and polyphonic progressions. One of the indicators of the fantastic style is the dissolution of the polyphonic structures at the ends of the fugues, evident in Buxtehude's work.In this edition, a musical text is presented that avoids the uniformity of detail not conforming to the sources. However, there are many examples of transcription and cursory errors, which are analyzed in a methodical systematic manner. About the editor: As an organist, professor, organ expert, and scholar, Harald Vogel has rendered outstanding services to the interpretation of early music and especially to historical performance practice concerning the organ for decades. He has received numerous awards, including an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (2012), honorary doctorates from Lulea University of Technology (Sweden, 2008) and Oberlin College (USA, 2014), as well as the Buxtehude Prize of the City of Lubeck (2018). Harald Vogel is the author and editor of numerous scholarly publications and editions. Through his lifelong performance practice, he can look back on an extensive discography, including the complete recording of Buxtehude's organ works, which he recorded in various locations with historical organ instruments of the North German organ building tradition in Scandinavia, North Germany and the Netherlands.

Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YPS212). ISBN 9781491152317. UPC: 680160909810. Key: C minor. Taking its title from a poem about grief and loss by Chrissie Pinney, Live On honors the life of band director Linda Mann, to whom the piece is dedicated. The piece begins with a pensive intro before shifting to a whimsical theme that brings about happy thoughts of a life well-lived. After a return to the poignant opening material, the music surges to a triumphant conclusion based on an augmented version of the whimsical theme. Live On was commissioned by Diplomat Middle School's staff, faculty and students, in Cape Coral, Florida, and is dedicated to the memory of their Director of Bands, Linda Mann. Director of Orchestras, Roland Forti, championed the commissioning of this piece to honor the life of Linda after her untimely passing in February of 2017. Linda Mann’s impact on the field of music education was profound and wide-reaching. She was a beloved member of the staff at Diplomat Middle School, as well as the music community of Cape Coral and the state of Florida. Linda was highly respected throughout the state, serving as recent past-president of the Florida Bandmasters Association. In discussing the type of piece the school wanted to honor Ms. Mann, they indicated the piece should “depict Linda’s personality: dynamic, sassy, yet thoughtful and almost mentor-like.†They wanted a piece that was upbeat, yet still had moments that were thoughtful, portraying the grief that the Diplomat Middle School community has suffered from the sudden loss of such a beloved teacher. After contemplating their thoughts, I did some research to find inspiration for the piece. This led me to poetry about grief and loss. In time, I stumbled upon a short, yet poignant poem that I felt perfectly depicted the sentiment that I wanted the piece to convey. That poem is entitled Live On by Chrissie Pinney.Live OnNow as I live onWithout youI hope to keepThe pieces of youThat I loved so dearlyYour mannerismsAnd compassionate characterAnd smiles through struggleSo that youMay live on too -Chrissie PinneyI reached out to Ms. Pinney, and she graciously agreed to allow me to quote her powerful poem in these notes. She expressed that she was deeply touched that her work would inspire me to write a piece in honor of Linda Mann. The piece begins with a poignant, pensive opening section. The use of the musical interval of a tritone between the first two openly voiced chords are used to represent the sadness we all feel from this type of loss. When I sat in front of my piano and started to work on this piece, my hands seemed to naturally and immediately play these first two chords, which set the process in motion of composing the piece. After the somber opening, the piece shifts to a whimsical theme that I hope brings about happy thoughts of Linda and her personality. It was also my intent, however, to include some musical dissonance in the theme that still reflected the bittersweet loss at the same time. The piece develops into a secondary theme that is a quasi inversion of the main fast theme. This section is followed by a return of the opening material, with snippets of the fast theme intertwined, before the piece builds to a triumphant, augmented presentation of the main theme in a lush form to complete the work.It is my hope that in some small way, this piece will bring comfort to those affected by the loss of Linda Mann, and that the music will allow her memory to Live On.–Larry ClarkLakeland, FL 2017. $75.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

ISBN 9781491161098. UPC: 680160919697. Key: E lydian. English. The Vastness of the Universe Jonas Hallgrimsson (1807-1845). About Jonas Halgrimsson (1807-1845) was an Icelandic poet, author and naturalist, who is considered one of Iceland's most renowned poets. Considered a Romantic writer, the strong imagery in his poetry was influenced heavily by the landscapes around him. The imagery, excitement, and curiosity of the universe leapt off the page and the music almost wrote itself. Reflecting on the cosmos and origin of the heavens, the poetry illicits excitement and stirs spatial imagery - ...speeding spark of light, ...wings swifter than wind..., ...I watched the stars...rise from the still stream of heaven.... The pure and almost child-like fascination with the universe and its expansion and progression fuels the perpetual rhythm of the work as it continually pushes forward. https://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/Jonas/Alheim/Alheim.html A good friend asked if I would write a song for her ensemble. The parameters were that it had to be three-part with a limited range in the Bass part. With these stipulations I began to write. I searched for something that would be exciting for them and landed on Jonas Halgrimsson's writings. There is such a need for three-part music that is both exciting, accessible, and challenging. Director's Note Truly consider how the work can come to 'life' off the page. Rise and fall with phrase and sometimes each note. The magic exists beyond the ink on the page! Consideration to range, tessitura, and content was all considered as part of this process in creating music that is accessible to all programs and ensembles Accompaniment Note The accompaniment can look intimidating, but please feel free to alter the pulsing eighth notes in the left hand with the eighth notes in the right-hand so it creates a compound rhythm. So long as the momentum of the work is pressed onward, you are doing this work justice. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9628). ISBN 9781491157008. UPC: 680160915569. 6.875 x 10.5 inches. Key: E minor. English, English. Original, Sarah Ramos & Robert Draper. Ramos has written a memorable tribute to a beloved teacher in I Carry Your Song in My Heart. For the advanced treble ensemble, the lush and captivating harmonies are sure to engage both singer and audience. With a wonderful it factor, it is a great find for concert or festival. A great music teacher's legacy is not measured by the festivals and conventions at which their students performed. It is not measured by the number of all-state performers or professional musicians their program generated. Nor is it measured by Teacher-of-the-Year awards or accolades. A great music teacher's legacy is found in the memories, the music, the life lessons, and the truths still resonating in the hearts of their students. I Carry Your Song in My Heart was created to celebrate the legacy of Cheryl Wilson, a great choir director, and the 'song' she imparted to her students. Robert Draper, her former assistant, wrote the first draft of the text which was further developed into its present form by Evan and Sarah Ramos. Performance Notes: Mm. 9-16: Be careful not to take this section too quickly. The section 'rhythms dance, phrases spin' is difficult to enunciate at too fast a tempo. Work with your singers to find a tempo that allows mm. 13-16 to 'dance' without feeling rushed. Mm. 37, 61: Keep the dotted eighth notes in these measures as legato as possible. M. 47: If you would like, accenting the dotted eighth notes is appropriate here. If you choose to perform this piece with Cello, feel free to adjust dynamics as needed for balance in the overall sound. | Toomai des elephants Piano solo [Score] - Intermediate Musik Fabrik
Piano - Grade 4 SKU: FA.MFCD011PN Composed by Claude Debussy and Robert O...(+)
Piano - Grade 4 SKU: FA.MFCD011PN Composed by Claude Debussy and Robert Orledge. Rediscoverd Debussy. Classical, Impressionistic. Score. Musik Fabrik #MFCD011PN. Published by Musik Fabrik (FA.MFCD011PN). 8.27 x 11.69 inches. In January 1913, Debussy struggled to complete Toomai des elephants as the 11th prelude in Book2, finally replacing it by a rather Stravinskian study Les Tierces alternees. However, his daughter Chouchou was fascinated by elephants and in the summer of 1913, Debussy wrote her a 'Toybox Ballet' (La Boite a joujoux) which contains a 'Pas de l'elephant' and an 'old Hindu chant which is still used to train elephants [in India]. It is constructed on the scale of 5 o'clock in the morning, which means it must be in 5/4 time.' My reconstruction of this lost prelude is based around this material and it evokes a day in the life of Toomai, the young mahout, and his faithful elephant Kala Nag from one dawn to the next, incorporating the legendary 'Elephants' Dance' from Rudyard Kip ling's First Jungle Book (1894) which only Toomai was ever privileged to witness. The version presented here is the revised second version of this prelude which contains an effect of piano harmonics as the dawn returns towards the end. $12.94 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
