A clever arrangement of the traditional spiritual that includes a surprise nod to Handel's Hallelujah Chorus plus an optional part for autoharp! The pentatonic chorus is great for teaching or reinforcing solfège, while the harmonies are appropriately independent for developing singers. A few new words tell us more about the heroic boy, David. A terrific teaching piece that kids will enjoy!

It is dedicated to Sheila Mossman and the Orpington Junior Singers: a highly regarded girls choir which appeared at the BBC Proms and gave several other high-profile performances in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
David Vassall Cox (1916-1997) was a British composer, pianist and music critic. He is best known for his choral and vocal works, but also spent many years working for the BBC in various roles.

Terrific concert, contest or festival piece filled with kinetic musical energy that's easy to teach and learn with musical respect for the traditional spiritual. The independent part-singing is confidence building, too.

Stacey Gibbs' Li'l David for women's chorus is a tremendous creation by the well-loved arranger. This will be a great choice for more advanced women's choirs, but the way the two SSA choirs play off of one another is natural and achievable. Jo-Michael Scheibe Choral Series.
