Here's a joyous and happy Latin chart for any concert setting. The calypso groove is easy to play, the brass ranges are very accessible, the tempo is around 142 BPM, written solos are provided for alto and trumpet, plus some brief melodic duets for altos and trumpets. It all works very well in this fine chart. Play it! (3:55).

The basic Mambo rhythms in this chart provide an easy, accessible, and fun introduction to Latin style music for beginning players. Highlights include written solos and duets for both trumpets and altos, and all sections get a chance at the melody. The improvised solo section uses only two chords, and any player will sound good (and feel safe) by using notes from just one major scale. Your band will love it!

As recorded by the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra in 1974 for their Potpourri album on the Philadelphia International label, this highly expressive ballad opens with an unaccompanied 20-bar piano solo before the band gets on board. Then a pair of duets for flugel-and-soprano and flute-and-bass take the stage, leading ultimately to a solo chorus for flugel. The chart closes quietly with brief trombone and arco bass solos. Duration ca. 7:25.
