Paul and Barry Ryan were identical twin sons of 1950’s pop singer Marion Ryan and were born on 24th October 1948. They were groomed for stardom and had started singing as a duo before their fifteenth birthday. They were signed by Decca in 1965 and brilliantly marketed as clean-cut fashion icons. Their first single ‘Don’t Bring Me Your Heartaches’ reached the UK top twenty but their success as twin performers lasted only three years. In 1968 Barry embarked on a solo career while Paul concentrated on writing and producing. Eloise with its melodramatic vocal style and heavily orchestrated backing was an early success of this new collaboration and went on to be covered by a variety ofartists, including punk legends The Damned.

Bohemian Rhapsody is undoubtedly one of the most important songs in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. The song defied all convention in terms of form. It has no chorus. Instead, it comprised of an introduction, ballad, guitar solo, operatic interlude, hard rock section and coda. Perhaps the most mystifying aspect of the song is the lyrics, which are commonly thought to be autobiographical, although members of the band have never fully explained them. Diptyque is the French word for “diptych,” meaning a hinged two-part image. The first section of this two-part musical painting has an Oriental feel, with characteristic pentatonic melody lines and chords. The second section is a cheerful Saltarello dance that brings out the subtleties of the woodwind section. A juxtaposition of Eastern and Western music, Diptyque reminds listeners of the power of music in transcending all cultural, religious and political boundaries.

Le premier tableau, majestueux, s’inspire d’une ancienne chanson enfantine intitulée Akkatobai, et dont l’origine est rattachée la ville de Nagasaki. Le second tableau offre un joyeux contraste en termes de style et tempo. Gai et lumineux, il reflète l’île méridionale de Kyushu, où se trouve Nagasaki. Une légère et allègre saltarelle met en valeur la virtuosité des bois. La juxtaposition des deux volets de ce diptyque symbolise l’entente.

La prima, dal carattere maestoso, s’ispira ad un’antica canzone per bambini chiamata Akkatobai, originaria della citt giapponese di Nagasaki. The Suite for guitar aims to blend tradition and modernity through the use of a language with a neobaroque imprint.
The canonical utilization of the fixed dances of the Suite (Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue preceded by an introductory Prelude) serves as a clear reference to the corresponding Baroque model characterized by alternation between slow and fast movements.
The style, on the other hand, appears to be moderately dissonant, yet still focused on a well-defined tonal framework. A personal use of both dissonances and modulations is intended to enhance the auditory experience while maintaining a strong connection to a specific tonal center (E), which serves as a stable reference point in the organization of the musical material.

La Suite pour guitare vise à mêler tradition et modernité à travers l’utilisation d’un langage à l’empreinte néobaroque.
