Angelo Maria Fiore (c. 1660-1723), composer and virtuoso cellist, was the founder of the Piedmont school. In 1697 he was invited to the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna as a rare cello player. During his lifetime his work entitled Trattenimenti di camera a due stromenti, violino e cimbalo o violino e violoncello was published by Bartolomeo Gregori in 1698, barely three years after the first cello sonatas to appear in print, the works of Giuseppe Jacchini. Three of the 14 Trattenimenti were written for cello and basso continuo, and they form the contents of this volume. This edition is faithful to the text of the source and the archaic style of writing has been modernized to makethe score (intended for practical, pedagogical purposes) easier to read. Von der vierzehn ‚Trattenimenti' (eigentliche Barocksonaten) entstanden drei für Cello und Basso continuo, diese Werke beinhaltet unser Band. Die Ausgabe bleibt zum Text der Quelle treu, um die Lesbarkeit der praxisorientierten, vorallem pädagogischer Zwecke dienenden Noten zu vereinfachen, wurde die alte Schreibweise modernisiert.

The latest volume of Chamber Music for Violoncellos contains four sacral works, two of which were arranged for cello quartet by the editor of the series, Ãrpád Pejtsik. Both Angelus!, Liszt's piano piece of ethereal beauty, and the Kyrie of Mozart's Requiem, an irresistibly surging four-part fugue, are magnificent when played with the immensely rich sound of the four cellos. The second part of the volume contains a pair of inspired works by two prominent cellists and composers of the 19th century: Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Fitzenhagen's Consecration Hymn and Friedrich Grützmacher's Ave Maria. While an instrumental skill of at least intermediate level is required for playing the upperparts due to the use of higher positions, the lower parts can be performed by beginner cellists. The editor has assisted the appropriate interpretation of the works by providing the fingering and bowing. Band 15 der Reihe für Violoncelli enthält vier Kirchenmusikwerke. The fourth violoncello volume of the series Music for Beginners offers beginners who wish to get acquainted with camber music as well, a selection from the music literature of more than two centuries, starting from the late 17th century to the early 20th century. It contains both demanding polyphonic works and popular melodic pieces. The easier pieces included in the volume can already be performed after two or three years of serious studies.
