Ãrpád Balázs (*1937) composed the first version of Rhapsody for Hungarian cimbalom and concert band in 2001; in 2021, on the encouragement by a Japanese marimba player he arranged the solo part for marimba, and therefore the opportunities for the work to beplayed have significantly widened. The Rhapsody follows the one-movement structure created by Franz Liszt. The beginning solo section of the cimbalom (or marimba) returns before the coda as a pillar of the form. The composition, which can be divided into five sections, develops and works with a Lydian tetrachordal motif (G-A-B-C sharp) in different characters, stretching the span of music from a simple, children's song-like appearance to an obstinate ritual dance. In conclusion, the Rhapsody is a passionately emotional lyric orchestral poem rich in colours and characters, which has a place on the repertoire of every concert band playing quality music.

Little Piece of Gossip was commissioned by Geoffrey Morris and was created in close communication between composer and guitarist. It explores instrument-specific questions such as: “How do percussive sounds work on the fretboard; what would happen if we sometimes adopted a rock-style approach; how are the sharp strokes on the lower string; what are the lyrical qualities of the guitar?†The musical idea behind the resulting piece of about five minutes: manic rhythmic toing and froing, prepared by harmonies flashing here and there, turns into a very simple lullaby.

Two principal folk-like melodies have been woven together in this little suite. After a brief brass opening a rich chorale is played by woodwinds followed by the development section using sharp accented rhythms. The themes and their variations are added individually as they build for an exciting full band climax.

Young players who are just starting to read music can find it difficult to follow a duet or trio. This book solves the problem with color coded music, making it easy for clarinet beginners to follow their ensemble part.Students only need to know 4 or 5 notes to play the first duets in this book, which covers Beginner and Preliminary levels. The music spans a wide range of composers, as well as traditional tunes from around the world. There is a selection of festive music, a section of rounds, plus there are warm up exercises, each focusing on one aspect of ensemble technique. The arrangements by Karen North have been prepared in consultation with clarinet specialist Sally Lucas. The arrangements work well for two players up to a large clarinet ensemble. Many pieces offer maximum flexibility as they can be played as a Duet (use the two upper parts) or as a Trio.Free recordings of all the duets & trios: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh0MBwKcJUR75_3wXRyYj5QPreview pages: https://www.theyoungfluteplayer.com/clarinet-musicSpecifications:• Beginner-Preliminary level• 32 pages• 29 duets and trios• 8 warm-up exercises• 9 rounds• Keys up to one sharp or flat• Time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, C, 6/8, 2/2.

All of the Polonaises included in this volume were written during Chopin's childhood and youthful years, through to the earliest of the Polonaises prepared personally for printing by the composer (op. 22 and 26). This strict division into two groups has no correlation with other Chopin categories: Mazurkas or Waltzes not published by Chopin came into being during his entire period of creative activity at the same time as those he made for publication. Both groups of Polonaises complement each other in a particular way, together giving an understandable cross-section of the whole of Chopins creativity from Polonaise B WN1, being his first surviving compositional attempt for the Polonaise-Fantasy op.61, which belongs to the group of masterpieces crowning his last creative period. The collective publication of his Polonaises till now, which present them in the order of finding and publication gives, from this perspective, a totally chaotic impression. [from source commentary]. Includes Polonaises: in B flat major, G minor, A flat major, G sharp minor, D minor, F minor, B flat minor, G flat major.

Of this series of twenty-four études planned by Liszt only twelve were actually written, but the contemporary printed editions of the completed pieces (in the hope of a continuation) appeared with the series title '24 grandes études'. By publishing these 12 concert studies it makes the earlier and technically more difficult version of the Transcendental Studies available for the first time since 1911 for study by performers and those engaged in music research. Contrary to the 1911 edition among the volumes of the first complete Liszt edition, NLE will publish also the text variants of some studies, an album leaf in F sharp major in facsimile and in transcription considered asthe 13th study planned by Liszt for the series, and the earlier versions of so-called Mazeppa and Ab irato studies. In the volume will be published the puzzling album leaf, the so-called 'Prélude omnitonique' and some similar album leaves, too.
