| Selected Studies For Trombone I Trombone EMB (Editio Musica Budapest)
Trombone SKU: BT.EMBZ14143 By Makovecz Pál. Studies & Exercises. Book ...(+)
Trombone SKU: BT.EMBZ14143 By Makovecz Pál. Studies & Exercises. Book Only. Composed 1997. 52 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ14143. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ14143). English-German-Hungarian. The collection of 130 studies published in two volumes was compiled with the aim in mind to meet the demands of trombone instruction from the highest classes of the music schools to the Academy of Music. lt was selected from those 'traditional' studies which played a decisive role in trombone playing and instruction at the turn of the century and have become the most frequently performed studies since then. However old-fashioned these studies may seem, they belong to the best ones with regard to safe, smooth technique and the elaboration of a nice sound and will definitely serve their purÂpose in the future as well. On compiling the volumes, I have attempted to observe not only asequence according to grade of difficulty but the variety of characters as well. I am convinced that these studies are both useful and, when performed sufficiently colorfully, may contribute to overcoming the monotony of technical exercises. The articulation sings and markings of dynamics, which often differ from the original, try to meet this aim.I had already used this collection of studies before it was printed. 1 had to realize soon that the technical level of the first pieces was too high to assure a smooth transition from the trombone tutors written for beginners. As a result, I found it necessary to start the first volume with a shortened and facilitated version of some studies. Since these pieces in question have been changed considerably, a * beside the composer's name refers to the fact in each case that they are arrangements.I recommend my work to my past, present and future pupilsPál Makovecz. $17.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Choral (SATB choir a cappella) SKU: HL.50490629 Composed by Mark Adamo. Choral. Classical. Octavo. 12 pages. G. Schirmer #ED 4497. Published by G. Schirmer (HL.50490629). ISBN 9781458415950. UPC: 884088607340. 6.75x10.5 inches. Composed for Craig Hella Johnson and Conspirare, the composer writes: Same Train, in many arrangements seems to sing of good news coming. But – maybe it was the relentlessness, the conclusiveness of the title phrase – I wondered if what was coming might actually have been a funeral train: coming for “our sister, our mother,” and...soon enough for us, too. I thought of so many other spirituals which sing about dark truths in bright music, and wondered if I couldn't use the imitative, “ch-ch-train” ostinato to honor that willfully smiling aspect of the piece, while also freeing the harmonies to make audible the more disconsolate feelings underneath. $1.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Arranged by Michael Brand. Band Music. Score only. Duration 4:20. Published by G & M Brand Music Publishers (CN.S11242). Scenes from an English Landscape is a brief nostalgic tone poem taking its inspiration from visions of rural England as depicted in the paintings of John Constable, the novels of Thomas Hard, and the music of Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. At the end of the work, both versions of the theme are stated together to bring the piece to a triumphant climax.
This is a brief nostalgic tone poem taking its inspiration from visions of rural England as depicted in the paintings of John Constable, the novels of Thomas Hard, and the music of Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. I imagined a community of villagers coming out of church and filling a village square with their vibrant presence. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. At the end o the work, both versions of the theme are stated together to bring the piece to a triumphant climax. Adam Gorb was born in Cardiff and started composing at the age of ten. His first work broadcast on national radio was written when he was fifteen. He studied at Cambridge University (1977-1980) and the Royal Academy of Music (1991-1993) where he graduated with the highest honours including the Principal's Prize. He has been on the staff at the London College of Music and Media, the junior Academy of the Royal Academy of Music and, since 2000 he has been the Head of School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester . International recognition came in 1994 with the US Walter Beeler Prize for his work Metropolis . With it began what has developed into probably the most important wind ensemble catalogue by a contemporary composer, ranging from extremely challenging to the most accessible, at all technical levels, seized on by players internationally, widely recorded and now absolutely central to the world's wind repertoire. Equally important though are his works for dance, and concert pieces like the chamber orchestral Weimar , the Violin Sonata , a Clarinet Concerto for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Diaspora for strings (for the Goldberg Ensemble). Deceptively mainstream at first glance, they display the same inventive brilliance, pulsating sound world, striking use of rhythm and an undogmatic absence of stylistic hang-ups to embrace jazz and serialism in works where power, poetry, irony and pathos, often underlaid by a theatrical and deeply subversive element, coalesce in an integrated, highly individual musical voice. Gorb is also not afraid to draw on the vivid musical heritage of his Jewish roots, sometimes directly, often in a more subsumed or radically creative way. The crucial and consistent feature of Gorb's work though is that it communicates strongly without patronizing players or audiences. He firmly believes that if contemporary music - any music - does not impact on listeners then its message is irrelevant; it is lost. $7.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Chamber Music Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Clarinet, English Horn, Oboe, alto Saxopho...(+)
Chamber Music Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Clarinet, English Horn, Oboe, alto Saxophone, soprano Saxophone SKU: PR.114419980 Composed by Stacy Garrop. Sws. Set of Score and Parts. 32+16+16+16+16+16 pages. Duration 16 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41998. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114419980). UPC: 680160681723. 9 x 12 inches. The ancient Egyptian empire began around 3100 B.C. and continued for over 3000 years until Alexander the Great conquered the country in 332 B.C. Over the centuries, the Egyptian empire grew and flourished into a highly developed society. They invented hieroglyphics, built towering pyramids (including the Great Pyramid of Giza, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the World), and the created many household items we still use today, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, eyeliner, black ink, and the forerunner of modern-day paper. Included among their achievements were a series of highly developed funerary practices and beliefs in the Afterlife. As the average lifespan of an Egyptian hovered around 30 years, living past the death of oneAs physical body was a legitimate concern. Egyptians believed that upon death, their souls would undertake a harrowing journey through the Netherworld. If they survived the horrific creatures and arduous trials that awaited them, then their souls would be reunified with their bodies (hence the need to preserve the body through mummification) and live forever in a perfect version of the life they had lived in Egypt. To achieve this, Egyptians devised around 200 magical spells and incantations to aid souls on the path to the Afterlife. These spells are collectively called The Book of the Dead. Particular spells would be chosen by the family of the deceased and inscribed on the tombAs walls and scrolls of papyrus, as well as on a stone scarab placed over the deceasedAs heart. Subsequent collections of spells and mortuary texts, such as The Book of Gates, assisted a soul in navigating the twelve stages of the Netherworld. Not only did these spells protect and guide the soul on this dangerous path, but they also served as a safeguard against any unbecoming behavior an Egyptian did while alive. For instance, if a person had robbed another while alive, there was a spell that would prevent the soulAs heart from revealing the truth when in the Hall of Judgment. Rites for the Afterlife follows the path of a soul to the Afterlife. In Inscriptions from the Book of the Dead (movement 1), the soul leaves the body and begins the journey, protected by spells and incantations written on the tombAs walls. In Passage though the Netherworld (movement 2), the soul is now on a funerary barque, being towed through the Netherworld by four of the regionAs inhabitants. We hear the soul slowly chanting incantations as the barque encounters demons, serpents, crocodiles, lakes of fire, and other terrors. The soul arrives at The Hall of Judgment in movement 3. Standing before forty-two divine judges, the soul addresses each by name and gives a A!negative confessionA(r) connected to each judge (i.e. A!I did not rob,A(r) A!I did not do violence,A(r) and so on). Afterwards, the soulAs heart is put on a scale to be weighed against a feather of MaAat, the goddess of truth. If the heart weighs more than the feather, it will be eaten by Ammut, a hideous creature that lies in wait below the scale, and the soul will die a second and permanent death (this was the worst fear of the Egyptians). But if the heart is in balance with the feather, the soul proceeds onward. The final stage of the journey is the arrival at The Field of Reeds (movement 4), which is a perfect mirror image of the soulAs life in ancient Egypt. The soul reunites with deceased family members, makes sacrifices to the Egyptian gods and goddess, harvests crops from plentiful fields of wheat under a brilliant blue sky, and lives forever next to the abundant and nourishing waters of the Nile. Rites for the Afterlife was commissioned by the Barlow Endowment on behalf of the Akropolis Reed Quintet, Calefax Reed Quintet, and the Brigham Young University Reed Quintet. -S.G. $53.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Solo voices, orchestra (4 Soprano Voice Solo, Mezzo-Soprano Voice Solo, 2 Bass V...(+)
Solo voices, orchestra (4 Soprano Voice Solo, Mezzo-Soprano Voice Solo, 2 Bass Voice Solo, Fl, 2 Ob, bassoon, 2 Hn, 2 Trp, Str, Continuo) SKU: BA.BA04066 Opera seria in three acts. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Terence Best. This edition: complete edition, urtext edition. Linen. Halle Handel Edition (HHA) Series II, Volume 9,2. 2nd version. Complete edition, Score. HWV 12. Duration 3 minutes. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA04066_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA04066). ISBN 9790006495832. 33 x 26 cm inches. Text Language: Italian. Nicola Francesco Haym. This volume of the “Halle Handel Edition†presents the music of the second version of the opera which was premiered on 28 December 1720 at the King's Theatre, Haymarket, London as well as the amendments made for November 1721 revival. The appendix includes the amendments for the January/February 1728 version.
The first season of the Royal Academy ended on 25 June 1720. The new vocal soloists arrived in London in September. As the first version of “Radamisto†had been a great success during the first season, Handel revised the opera for the oncoming season to accommodate it to his new more proficient cast.
The revision was extensive. It included: 1) Changes to the vocal range of Radamisto (soprano to alto for the singer Senesino), Zenobia (alto to soprano for the female singer Durastanti) and Tiridate (tenor to bass for the singer Boschi), 2) compositions of new arias and ensembles, 3) significant changes to the plot consisting of the reduction of Fraartes’ role from brother to servant Tiridates and the omission of his not so original love affair to Zenobia.
For most of Handel's operas it can be said that the first version is the best version. This is due to the fact that when a work was performed again in later seasons, Handel was often forced to make changes due to casting constraints which often affected the equilibrium and the dramatic context of the work. “Radamisto†is an exception to this rule – the December 1720 adaptation is a much more superior composition than the version performed in April of the same year.
