Kerchner is Professor & Director of Music Education at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she is the secondary-school music and choral music education specialist. She is also founder and conductor of the Oberlin College Women’s Chorale and the Oberlin Music at Grafton Prison Choir. Her research interests include music listening, choral pedagogy, reflective praxis, empathetic leadership, and music teacher preparation. Katherine Strand is Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Education Department in the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where she teaches classes in participatory music practices, curriculum, and qualitative research methods. She taught K–12 choral and general music in rural and urban settings and served as choral director for the Virginia Governor’s School for the Visual and Performing Arts and Humanities. Her research interests include teaching for creativity, multicultural music pedagogy, and curriculum. The Missa Dei Patris is the first of three transmitted Missae ultimae. The piano vocal score is based on the score published by Reinhold Kubik in volume 93 of the series Das Erbe deutscher Musik, now available as PB 5556.

The Missa Dei Patris ZWV 19 was composed in 1740 and ranks among the later works of the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. It opens an incompletely transmitted cycle of six masses which the composer himself designated as Missae ultimae. The musical text of the present conductor's score is based on that of Volume 93 of the Denkmaler edition Das Erbe deutscher Musik . The new piano vocal score has been edited by the reputable expert Andreas Kohs. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. (Schweizerische Musikzeitung) Zelenka's Masses - fine specimens of Baroque choral literature, some parts of which are set even more colorfully than in the corresponding compositions by Bach. In part one Johan and Willem Gulik of Guelders set out to do battle against King Charles of France.
On their return,in part two, Johan captures two French goldsmiths in Hainault and incarcerates them at Castle Rijnesteyn.
Part three is a musical representation of a courtly ballet in medieval style.
The final part relates how Jan van Rijnesteyn goes to war against Hendrik van Vianen and Lord of 'Goy,Viscount of Utrecht.Jan loots hispossessions and threathens to conquer all. In het jaar 1368 betrekt een roofzuchtig heerschap het kasteel Reijnestein te Cothen.Het is Johan, de bastaardzoon van de Utrechtse bisschop.
Rond dit nu zo vredig gelegen ridderslot hebben zich toen geruchtmakende taferelen afgespeeld.

In het eerste deel trekt Johan met Willem Gullik, de hertog van Gelre, ten strijde tegen koning Karel van Frankrijk.
