This Latin mass for choir and wind band was composed in honour of Saint Cecilia’s feast day, Saint Cecilia being the patroness of musicians. For this reason, many ensembles have annual concerts dedicated to Saint Cecila, which was the inspiration forthis piece. It is a festive, optimistic, but also comforting work, which in style perfectly suits the character of Saint Cecilia’s Feast Day. After Missa Brevis, Missa Katharina and The Gospel Mass, Missa Santa Cecilia isthe fourth published mass by the Dutch composer Jacob de Haan.Deze Latijnse mis voor koor en harmonieorkest is gecomponeerd ter ere van de feestdag van Sint-Cecilia. In het werk verwerkte de componist verschillende e_x001D_ecten die betrekking hebben op het festival. Zo hoort men in de vallei verschillende orkesten door elkaar spelen, een indrukwekkend e_x001D_ect dat ook in de compositie werd verwerkt. Ook kan men ervoor kiezen om tijdens het werk het orkest op te splitsen en het podium te laten verlaten en marcherend weer richting podium te stappen. Een spectaculair en vernieuwend werk!Die Inspiration für dieses dreiteilige Werk geht auf das Internationale Blasmusikfest der Jugend Europas zurück, dessen Schirmherr schon mehrfach Jacob de Haan war. Es beginnt in festlich marschierendem Tempo, gefolgt von sakraler Musik, abseits der Bühne spielenden Instrumentengruppen und einem kleinen Marsch für Blechbläser und Flöten. Der dritte Satz ist eine Parade, bei der sich das geteilte Orchester aus verschiedenen Richtungen auf die Bühne zu bewegt. Auch ohne die effektvolle Positionierung der Musiker ist Call of the Valley ein eindrucksvolles Blasorchesterwerk.Call of the Valley s’ouvre sur un tempo festif en forme de marche. Des sonorités majestueuses dessinent un concert de musique sacrée. Puis deux groupes instrumentaux quittent la scène et exécutent leurs parties distance. Un groupe de saxophones interprète une valse, un autre groupe réunissant cuivres et _x001D_fl tes joue une marche. la fin de l’oeuvre, l’orchestre reprend les thèmes des deux groupes tandis que ceux-ci reviennent vers la scène. Une fois arrivés, ils restent face au public alors que résonne l’accord _x001C_final.Un festival di musica per _x001E_ati per banda giovanile che si tiene a Hesse in Germania, e al quale Jacob de Haan ha più volte partecipato in veste di giurato, è servito da ispirazione per comporre questo brano. L’inizio vede un tempo festivo che simboleggia l’arrivo delle bande. Sonorit maestose disegnano un concerto di musica sacra, seguite da suoni che evocano le interpretazioni di varie orchestre. Un gruppo di sax interpreta un piccolo valzer, un altro gruppo che unisce ottoni, _x001D_auti e ottavino suona una piccola marcia. Nel _x001E_finale dell’opera, l’orchestra riprende i temi dei due gruppi.

Scenes from an English Landscape is a brief nostalgic tone poem taking its inspiration from visions of rural England as depicted in the paintings of John Constable, the novels of Thomas Hard, and the music of Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. I imagined a community of villagers coming out of church and filling a village square with their vibrant presence. A chorale-like theme is stated in the brass and then taken up at three times the tempo in the woodwinds. At the end o the work, both versions of the theme are stated together to bring the piece to a triumphant climax. Adam Gorb was born in Cardiff and started composing at the age of ten. His first work broadcast on national radio was written when he was fifteen. He studied at Cambridge University (1977-1980) and the Royal Academy of Music (1991-1993) where he graduated with the highest honours including the Principal's Prize. He has been on the staff at the London College of Music and Media, the junior Academy of the Royal Academy of Music and, since 2000 he has been the Head of School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester . International recognition came in 1994 with the US Walter Beeler Prize for his work Metropolis . With it began what has developed into probably the most important wind ensemble catalogue by a contemporary composer, ranging from extremely challenging to the most accessible, at all technical levels, seized on by players internationally, widely recorded and now absolutely central to the world's wind repertoire. Equally important though are his works for dance, and concert pieces like the chamber orchestral Weimar , the Violin Sonata , a Clarinet Concerto for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Diaspora for strings (for the Goldberg Ensemble). Deceptively mainstream at first glance, they display the same inventive brilliance, pulsating sound world, striking use of rhythm and an undogmatic absence of stylistic hang-ups to embrace jazz and serialism in works where power, poetry, irony and pathos, often underlaid by a theatrical and deeply subversive element, coalesce in an integrated, highly individual musical voice. Gorb is also not afraid to draw on the vivid musical heritage of his Jewish roots, sometimes directly, often in a more subsumed or radically creative way. The crucial and consistent feature of Gorb's work though is that it communicates strongly without patronizing players or audiences. He firmly believes that if contemporary music - any music - does not impact on listeners then its message is irrelevant; it is lost.

El Misteri del Foc (Het geheim van het vuur) is de derde sinfonietta van de Spaanse componist Ferrer Ferran. Dit contrastvolle werk bestaat uit drie kleurrijke, levendige en melodische delen: Calixto III, Els Canalsund Foguera i Festa. De delen Calixto III en Els Canals vertellen het avontuurlijke verhaal van paus Calixto III uit het Spaanse Canals rond 1500. In het deel Foguera i Festa nodigen de inwoners van Canalsu uit op het feest van St. Anthony. De climax van dit feest is een groot vreugdevuur op een twintig meter hoge stellage van hout. Een vlammend werk voor muzikant en publiek!El Misteri del Foc (Das Geheimnis des Feuers) ist Ferrer Ferrans dritte Sinfonietta. Dieses kontrastreiche Werk besteht aus drei farbigen, lebhaften und melodischen Satzen: Calixto III, Els Canals und Foguera i Festa. Spannend fur Musiker und Publikum!El Misteri del Foc (Le mystere du feu) est la troisieme sinfonietta du compositeur espagnol Ferrer Ferran. Cette œuvre contrastante est constituee de trois mouvements colores, espiegles, petillants, dansants et melodiques. / 1. Calixte III : Alfonso de Borgia, futur Calixte III, naquit dans la cite de Canals pres de Valence en Espagne. Lors d'une rencontre avec Vicente Ferrer (Vincent Ferrier), un dominicain valencien et predicateur illustre, celui-ci lui predit qu'il serait elu pape et qu'en tant que tel, il le canoniserait. Alfonso de Borgia fut elu pape sous le nom de Calixte III et fit inscrire Vicente Ferrer parmi les saints de l'Eglise.Devenu souverain pontife, son grand objectif fut la reconquete de Constantinople tombee aux mains des Turcs. Calixte III appella a une croisade pour liberer la ville. Apres une premiere bataille victorieuse, la croisade s'acheva par un echec cuisant. / 2. Els Canals (Canals) : Canals, ses paysages colores, ses nombreux canaux et rivieres, et son sens de la fete, nous invite a assister a la Fete de la Saint Antoine, a la cremation du bucher beni, la benediction des animaux et la Festa dels Parells (La fete des parents). / 3. Foguera i Festa (Le feu et la fete) : Le point d'orgue de la Fete de la Saint Antoine est la mise a feu d'un immense bucher de vingt metres de haut dont la construction necessite chaque annee pas moins de 600 tonnes de bois (essentiellement du sapin). Le Feu de la Saint Antoine est accompagne des vivats des habitants qui rendent ainsi hommage a leur saint patron. La Fete de la Saint Antoine compte parmi les fetes les plus populaires dans la tradition valencienne. Rassembles autour du bucher, les habitants de Canals celebrent cette fete avec enthousiasme.

This suite was composed by Jan Van der Roost on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the ‘Koninklijke Sint Martinusfanfare’ (Royal Saint Martinus Fanfare Band) from Halle (Belgium). The composer was required to create a suite in three movements based on three images associated with the ‘Sint Martinusfanfare’ from the small town of Halle in the province of Brabant. The first movement (Andante Pomposo) describes Martin, a soldier in the Roman army. In Andante Moderato we see the image of Martin, who become a Christian and chooses to devote his life to God. In this movement, the composer was inspired by the Brabantine gothic art of the Sint Martinus Basilica in Halle. Thecontrast between the dark Basilica and the statue of Our Lady between the soaring pillars will vividly come to life for audiences of this descriptive piece. The final movement, Allegro Molto Vivace’, could have been an image for a frivolous peasant in the Halle carnival. In a triptych about St. Martin it is more fitting to refer to it as an apotheosis, the crown on the pastoral work of Martin, Bishop of Tours, Patron Saint of the Fanfare Band and the Basilica of Halle. Jan Van der Roost komponierte diese Suite anlässlich des 110. Geburtstages der Koninklijke Sint Martinusfanfare aus Halle (Brabant).Auftrag des Komponisten was es, ein dreisätziges Werk zu schreiben, dessen einzelne bildhafte Teile einen Bezug zur Sint Martinusfanfare herstellen sollten. Der erste Satz, ein Andante Pomposo, beschreibt Martin, Soldat im römischen Heer. Das darauffolgende Andante Moderato zeichnet ein Bild von Martin, der sich zum Christentum bekehrt und sein Leben Gott widmen möchte. In diesem Satz ließ sich derKomponist von der brabantischen Gotik der Sint Martinus Basiliek in Halle inspirieren. Der Kontrast zwischen der dunklen Basilika und der von hoch emporstrebenden Pfeilern umgebenen, strahlenden Statue der Mutter Gottes wird für den Zuhörer in diesemausdrucksvollen Bild leicht nachvollziehbar.Der Schlusssatz, ein Allegro Molto Vivace, hätte die musikalische Beschreibung eines ausgelassenen Bauerntanzes während des Karnevalsumzugs in Halle sein können. In einem dem Heiligen Martin gewidmeten Triptychon ist es jedoch angemessener, in einerApotheose darauf zu verweisen, als Krönung des pastoralen Wirkens des Heiligen Martin, Bischof von Tours, Schutzheiliger des Auftraggebers und Stifter der Basilika in Halle.
