In 1725 J.S. Bach composed the cantata BWV79 ‘Gott, der Herr, is Sonn’ und Schild for the celebration of the Reformation. Originally written for 3 vocal soloists, choir and orchestra Cantata No.79 is partially based on the well known hymn Now Thank We All Our God, the melody of which is attributed to Martin Rinckart. Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten was composed by Georg Neumark in about 1641 and was subtitled ‘Trostlied’ literally meaning consolation song. Songbooks at the time showed the popularity of this song and it is still well-known today partly due to Johann Sebastian Bach’s use of the melody for one of his own chorals. In Jan de Haan’s arrangement the choral is heard twice, once, alternating with the original motif from the introduction and a second time, without interruption, reflecting the composer’s original intention - a song of consolation.Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten wurde um 1641 von Georg Neumark geschrieben. Alte Gesangbücher belegen eine frühe Popularität des Liedes, das heute nicht zuletzt durch Johann Sebastian Bach, der es u. a. für einen Choral verwendete, jeder kennt. The Ukrainian Bell Carol is part of a large choral work entitled Shchedryk by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921). It was first performed by students of Kiev University in December 1916. The tune is an adaptation of an old ‘shchedrivka’, a song traditionally sung on Ukrainian New Year’s Eve (January 13th) which hopes for good fortune in the year to come. In Shchedryk, Leontovych added his own the lyrics which concern the legend claiming that when Jesus was born, all the bells on earth started ringing in his honour.The tune has since been the inspiration of at least four different Christmas carols, but Philip Sparke has sourced the originalUkrainian melody to create this stirring arrangement. De Ukrainian Bell Carol is onderdeel van het grote koorwerk Shchedryk van de Oekra ense componist Mykola Dmytrovich Leontovych (1877-1921). Somebody to Love, from rock legends Queen, is one of the most popular rock ballads of all time. Taking its inspiration from gospel choirs, the band’s vocal lines were multiplied many times over to create a full choral sound. This layered effect has been carefully preserved in Peter Kleine Schaars’ powerful arrangement for fanfare band. Somebody to Love komt van het album A Day at the Races van Queen uit 1976. Het is een rockballad. Ge nspireerd door het gezang van gospelkoren, vermenigvuldigden ze hier de stemmen van Freddie Mercury, Brian May en Roger Taylor tot een gigantisch koor. Dit zorgde voor een heel speciale sound. En juist dit bijzondere geluid weet Peter Kleine Schaars heel goed te behouden in zijn bewerking voor orkest. Somebody to Love ist eine Rockballade aus dem Album A Day at the Races von 1976. Inspiriert vom Gesang von Gospelchören, wurden fu r die Aufnahme die Stimmen von Freddie Mercury, Brian May und Roger Taylor zu einem riesigen Chor vervielfacht, was fu r den speziellen Sound des Titels sorgte. Dieses besondere Feeling ist auch in der Fanfarebearbeitung von Peter Kleine Schaars sehr schön erhalten. Somebody to Love est une ballade rock de l’album A Day At The Races, sorti en 1976. The French composer Louis Bourgeois lived from c.1510 to 1560. Bourgeois was cantor in Geneva and, commissioned by John Calvin, he composed melodies for metrical (rhyming) versions of the psalms. After completing about a hundred one-part psalms, he made some four-part arrangements, which were denounced and even resulted in his imprisonment for a day. Later, Bourgeois published a number of psalm collections, and judging from his book Le droict chemin de musique he was also an excellent educator. The melodies Bourgeois composed, are (contrary to Gregorian chants) particularly suitable for community singing. This applies to his hymn tune Saint Michael, which is why this melody hasbeen used for various texts, written for many occasions. John Blanken made this arrangement for a wedding ceremony: an occasion in which faith and trust play a large - if not the largest - role. Hence the title Hymn of Faith. The arrangement contains four verses of the hymn. After a majestic opening the hymn follows twice, the second verse being embellished in the tenor register. After a short interlude verse three follows, played by a quartet. The majestic opening is then repeated as a modulation into the fourth verse, which concludes the work in a brilliant tutti. Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ (We Praise You Jesus Christ) is an old Christmas hymn dating from the 16th century, which can still be found in many hymnbooks today. John Blanken has created a varied and imaginative arrangement on four verses of the hymn. After the introduction, derived from the opening notes, the hymn is first accompanied by an agile harmonisation. Next, we hear the chorale in a four-part setting with a percussion accompaniment. Then follows a short prologue to the third verse and finally its time for fireworks as the arrangement takes a stylistic leap in time with the festive prelude to the fourth and last verse.Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ ist ein altes Weihnachtslied, das aufs 16. Jahrhundert zurückgeht und heute noch in vielen Liederbüchern zu finden ist. John Blanken bearbeitete vier Strophen dieses Liedes in ganz verschiedenen Weisen: Nach der Einleitung erklingt es zunächst komplett, von einer beweglichen Harmonisierung begleitet, und dann als vierstimmiger Choral mit Schlagzeug. In der dritten Strophe liegt der Cantus firmus im Tenor und wird vom hohen Register umspielt. Der grandiose Schluss führt thematisch wieder zum Beginn des Werkes zurück.Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ è un brano natalizio tedesco del XVI secolo. In his own distinctive style, Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedrich Händel. Van Beringen used Bach’s chorale Brich an, o schönes Morgenlicht (‘Break forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light’) from his Christmas Oratorio and the recitative Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with Us from Händel’s Messiah. A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!In seinem eigenen unverwechselbaren Stil schuf Robert van Beringen diese Fantasie über drei Themen der berühmten Barockkomponisten Johan Sebastian Bach und Johann Friedrich Händel: Den Choral Brich an, o schönes Morgenlicht nahm er aus Bachs Weihnachtsoratorium; aus Händels Messias stammen die beiden anderen Themen: das Rezitativ Denn sieh, eine Jungfrau wird schwanger und der Hallelujah Chorus. Dans cette fantaisie de Noël, Robert van Beringen conjugue avec une inégalable facilité des thèmes des maîtres du baroque, Jean-Sébastien Bach et Georg Friedrich Haendel.
