Reprint of the first edition. Friedrich Spitta recommended to Herzogenberg that he set Gerhard Tersteegen's text Gott ist Gegenwartig on the occasion of that poet's 200th birthday. Besides the obbligato organ, Herzogenberg restricted the instrumentation to strings, two trumpets, three trombones and timpani, and thus achieved a majestic quality which corresponds to the text. Score available separately - see item CA.2300100.

Veni was composed by Kay Johannsen in November 2015. Similar to his 2010 work Et vidimus gloriam eius for four choral groups (SSA, TTB, SATB, SATB) and organ based on the beginning of St John's Gospel, Veni requires a spatial separation of three four-part choirs. The starting point of the composition is the 12th century hymn Veni redemptor gentium by St Ambrose of Milan, which Martin Luther used as the basis of his 1524 hymn Nun komm, der Heiland. The four sections of the cantus firmus are sung in turn by all the basses, altos, sopranos, and tenors, each part at a louder dynamic than the other parts. For the accompanying voices Johannsen uses different principles of canonic technique and motivic variation, with most of the material derived from the cantus firmus. The organ part of this 12-part chorale arrangement provides a harmonic orientation, but is completely independent and introduces both moments of rhythmic accentuation and elements of veiling. The choral writing is also deepened and elevated by the organ sounds derived from the text. Despite all the motivic links between the parts, the music has a direct sensual effect as a sound collage. The work ends with three increasingly distant, homophonic invocations of Veni: the plea Komm occurs at the beginning as at the end.

The fact that Hermann Schroeder ranks among the most important composers of Catholic church music in the 20th century shows especially in the simple church music form of the choral setting, e. g. in his setting of the sacred song Unuberwindlich starker Held, Sankt Michael. With his own typical archaic tonal language, Schroeder creates an a cappella choral setting (SATB) in which the dignity and the admiration of the heroic deeds of the Archangel Michael find their musical expression in a very compact form. The underlying melody (GL 924) dates from 1623. The author of the text of the Song of Michael is the German hymn writer Friedrich Spee. A very charming choral setting that can be easily mastered by any church choir; its five verses have to be sung alternately by the choir and the congregation. Apart from the a cappella choral setting, the practical congregational edition also contains a chorale prelude and the organ chorale which can, of course, be used as accompaniment for the congregation, but also for the choral setting.

This beautifully presented edition from Novello offers a full Mass setting alongside a Motet, both for large mixed chorus, by Tomas Luis De Victoria. Regarded by many as one of the greatest composers of Spanish renaissance polyphony, this Mass setting is rich in his characteristic tonalities and the textures of the sacred choral tradition. Alongside this is the original Motet upon which the Mass setting is based. Both are transcribed and edited by Andrew Parker. The pairing of the two works offers an exciting and fascinating performance opportunity, with the devout grandeur of the Mass set against the modesty of the original Motet. Missa Dum Complerentur for SAATTB voices. Motet: Dum Complerentur Dies Pentecostes for SSATB voices.

Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch's Mass in 16 parts is remarkable for more than its unusual scoring. Inspired by the Italian church music style of Orazio Benevoli, it was composed in 1783 for the Berliner Sing-Akademie, and revised by Fasch several times throughout his life in order to adapt the score to the vocal capabilities of his ensemble. The composer destroyed all earlier compositions, which probably contributed to the legendary fame which this mass has enjoyed since the 19th century. The mass was, however, only published in 1839 - around four decades after Fasch's death. The present edition is based on the version contained in the first printed edition. In addition to modern music notation, extensive performance materials (two choral scores, separate organ part) facilitate the rehearsal of this challenging work. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2708300.

The choral cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. This is true despite the fact that Reger himself does not appear to have considered the cantatas to figure among his principal compositions, as he gave them no opus numbers. In contrast to the three other chorale cantatas of Reger which exist in a definitive form, there is no record of the place or date of the first performance of O wie selig, or indeed of any performance of it during the composer's lifetime. Score available separately - see item CA.5040500.

Carus published the original version of Bruckner's Te Deum for soloists, choir and large orchestra (Carus 27.190) in the fall of 2015. In order to make this work available for performance by smaller-sized ensembles [und einem weiteren Benutzerkreis zuganglich zu machen] Carus now presents it in an arrangement for brass quintet and organ. The brass parts are orientated essentially towards those in Bruckner's orchestral version, while the organ part follows the original string parts. [Damit kann nun auch unter eingeschrankten Bedingungen dieses grossartige Werk in einer adaquaten, stimmigen Form zur Auffuhrung gebracht werden.] As the voice parts (soloists and choir) in this reduced version are identical with those of the original the vocal score and choral score of the latter version can be used. This work is available (in the original version) in carus music, the choir app! Score available separately - see item CA.2719000.

Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition. The vocal score has been newly prepared to reflect current practical requirements. As an economical alternative, a chorus score is available. Bruckner's Te Deum is also available in carus music, the choir app. The app contains the music and a recording, as well as a coach to help with learning each choral part. In preparation: arrangement of the Te Deum for soli, choir, brass quintet and organ. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2719000.
