SONATA per il Flauto traverso solo senza Basso, da C.F.E. Bach appeared in 1763 in the fourth quarter publication of Musikalisches Mancherley, a musical quarterly printed in Berlin. In transcribing the work for trombone, Sauer has changed the original key of A minor to C minor and has revised the order of the movements to a more typical fast-slow-fast pattern. This work in three movements is suitable for advanced performers.

This wonderful unaccompanied work by Johann Sebastian Bach was, in all likelihood, written for the transverse flute, though that is by no means certain. In fact, there is an earlier version of the Allemande for a keyboard or stringed instrument. The Partita, originally in the key of A minor has been transposed down into D minor, putting it into a perfect range. The work is in four movements:Allemande, Corrente, Sarabande and Bourree Anglaise and is appropriate for advanced performers.Distributed by Cherry Classics Music for Balquhidder Music.

Ralph Sauer has beautifully edited Volume I of the Milde Concert Studies. They will add much to the Trombone study/etude literature. We look forward to many performers using these valuable studies to improve their technique and musicianship.Originally written for the bassoon, these studies were favorites of the great trombone teacher, Emory Remington (1891-1971). While perhaps not “concert†material, they provide much more musical interest than the typical etude book.bBr />I have added dynamics and changed phrasings to be more suitable for the trombone while keeping the wide tessitura and the many clef changes of the original. Alternate positions are included to make the music more fluid. I have not indicated whether an alternate position is to be played slightly higher or lower. The trombonist should know what adjustments are needed, and adding the small sharps or flats would only clutter the notation. These enjoyable and challenging studies will provide many hours of pleasurable practice. I have returned to these two volumes often over the years and hope that you will also find them useful and rewarding.Ralph Sauer.

Albert Robert Mueller (Muller) was a German trombonist born in 1849. He initially received violin lessons and discovered his talent for trombone playing at the age of twelve. He eventually settled in Leipzig and became a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra as well as a teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music. He wrote the School for Trombone in 1902. (Wikipedia) The School for Trombone (part of our Vintage Brass Series, not to be confused with the Technical Etudes) is a very detailed and comprehensive book in three volumes totalling 208 pages, the text being divided into German, English and Russian languages. * Volume I includes detailed lessons on music theory including all scales and keys, rhythm, time signatures, rests, accents, accidentals, explanations of tempo markings, dynamics, posture, tone, a table of positions and notes. The lessons go through different keys starting very slowly and methodically with short exercises....not going too fast for the beginning student. Along the way Mueller inserts easy duets to perform with teacher and student, including many Bach chorales, etc. to get tuning and tone solidified. * Volume II for the intermediate level student, begins with the first studies of slurs and legato. He introduces simple songs and famous melodies including more duets. The exercises get progressively more difficult and include the entire collection of ornaments. * Volume III, for the more advanced student, introduces tenor and alto clefs in scales and studies including more duets. Compiled by Gordon Cherry.

“ The Trombone player's Vade Mecum was composed by André Lafosse for advanced trombonists who are preparing for their exams. Divided into three parts, this piece covers all the necessary elements to prepare the exams: - The first one focuses on technical challenges: minor common chords, melodic minor scales, diminished sevenths, high and low scales, chromatic scales progressing in thirds - The second corresponds to a scale of an octave in semi-quavers, each of its degrees being the starting point for an additional scale. Each scale is followed by its chords and the seven degrees and octave can be played both descending and ascending. This second part on its own represents 30 exercises of scales. - The last part is quite difficult with 25 exercises covering most of the other difficulties that could be encountered. These pieces are perfect to get ready and to overcome all the small weaknesses a player can have before a big contest or recital. André Lafosse (1890-1975) was a trombonist and a professor at Paris Conservatoire. He also composed a suite for brass quintet called 'Suite Breve' and recorded with Stravinsky.â€.

”Pièce Concertante, Op.27 for Trombone and Piano is a piece by Carlos Salzédo written for the Paris Conservatoire contest. Great to demonstrate all the skills acquired by the player, this piece is difficult (7) and requires an advanced level to be played perfectly. Quite slow during the first section, the second part of the piece features some faster sections that are more syncopated. It requires a good mastering of breathing due to long phrases and liaisons Carlos Salzédo (1885-1961) was one of the greatest French harpists and a pianists, composers and conductors. He wrote numerous pieces for Harp, some theory books and methods and some pieces for other instruments such as Piano, Cello, Trombone, Flute or Voice.&ldquo.
