Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) wrote a lot of songs, several of which Jacob de Haan has arranged for ensemble of variable strength. The songs are: Fremad! Fremad!, Stille Nu! and Fola, Fola, Blakken. It has been arranged for beginner bands and can be played with a minimum of four players (+ percussion).

Edvard Grieg heeft een onuitwisbare invloed op de Scandinavische muziek gehad. De drie Noorse liederen die in dit stuk zijn verwerkt - Fremad! Fremad!, Stille Nu! en Fola,Fola,Blakken- zijn representatief voor het Noorsemuzikale karakter. Jacob de Haan heeft de liederen vakkundig bewerkt voor esembles met een variabele instrumentatie. Omdat ze zorgvuldig zijn georkestreerd voor moeilijkheidsgraad 2, is Norwegian Songs ook voor jonge orkestentoegankelijk. De rijke instumentale kleuren blazen deze aansprekende nummers nieuw leven in!

Jacob de Haan arrangierte drei Lieder von Edvard Grieg und fasste sie in einer dreiteiligen Suite für ein vierstimmig variables Ensemble oder Blasorchester mit optionalen Mallet- und Klavierstimmen zusammen. Die verschiedenen Charaktere der einzelnen Teile - von majestätisch über melancholisch-traurig bis zu ausgelassen-fröhlich - stellen Ihr Orchester auf die Probe. Ein höchst interessantes Werk, in dem viele Facetten Norwegens musikalisch dargestellt werden!

La notoriété de plusieurs de ses œuvres a dépassé les frontières de la Scandinavie. Ainsi, le Concerto pour piano en La mineur (1868) et la musique de scène Peer Gynt (1876) ont été salués par les mélomanes du monde entier. Edvard Grieg a également composé un grand nombre de mélodies, chansons et lieder. Jacob de Haana choisi d’arranger trois de ces chansons : Fremad!, Fremad!, une chanson au caractère majestueux ; Stille Nu!, plus mélancolique en raison de sa tonalité mineure et Fola, Fola, Blakken, unallegro plein de gaieté qui vient conclure cette petite suite en trois parties.
