SSTTAB vocal soli (SATTB), SATB choir/SSAT/ATBarB, 3 organ, instrument SKU: CA.1037106 Composed by Lodovico da Viadana. German title: Magnificat sexti toni. Sacred vocal music, Magnificats, Advent, Christmas, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary, Daily hours. Choral Score. 8 pages. Duration 10 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 10.371/06. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1037106). ISBN 9790007098773. Language: Latin. In this Magnificat, taken from a collection containing four-choir music for Vespers published in Venice in 1612, Viadana took an approach which was unusual at that time: the Magnificat is divided into 11 short movements like a cantata. The movements are structured with contrast clearly in mind. Viadana exploits not only the varied possibilities of the large vocal and instrumental forces to the full, but also presents a wide range of styles - from duet to four-choir tutti, from falsobordone to expressive madrigalian style. The work displays Viadana's knowledge as well as his admiration of the church music of Monteverdi in many ways. Viadana's printed edition of the Vespers of 1612 made a great impression on Michael Praetorius. Both Viadana's handling of the instruments and his treatment of the tutti choirs had a considerable influence on the works of Praetorius and other German masters. SATBB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 flutes, 2 oboes (oboe d'amore), 2 oboe da caccia, viola da gamba, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3124589 Version II. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Peter Wollny. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Johannespassion 1725. Sacred vocal music, Passions, Lent and Passiontide. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1725. BWV 245. 140 pages. Duration 120 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.245/89. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3124589). ISBN 9790007211455. Text language: German/English. The St. John Passion ranks alongside the St. Matthew Passion, the Christmas Oratorio, the Magnificat and the B minor Mass as one of the great vocal works from Johann Sebastian Bach's Leipzig years. In contrast to his other large-scale choral works, however, Bach never gave this work a definitive final form. Rather, for every performance he substantially revised the general concept of the piece and also changed numerous details. All previous editions of the St. John Passion have combined readings from various layers of sources and thus present the work in a form which was never heard during Bach's lifetime. Consequently, the wish often expressed by conductors to perform an authentic version by Bach could not be easily achieved. The present critical, new edition of the St. John Passion fulfills this wish and for the first time makes available the complete music of the second version of the work as it was performed under Bach's direction in 1725. Since a number of movements were replaced by others, including the opening chorus, this version differs most dramatically from the standard version which is well known today. The Missa pastoralis bohemica (Bohemian Shepherds' Mass), composed in 1796 by Mozart's contemporary Jakub Jan Ryba, is the most significant of the so-called Czech Christmas Masses. These are masses in a folkloristic style, in which the individual movements consist of a series of vocal-instrumental scenes in the Czech language; their topic is the birth of Christ and they are performed during the Christmas service. The story is about four Czech shepherds to whom the birth of Christ is announced, whereupon they visit the child in the manger. Ryba's mass became so famous that it is regarded - even today - as a symbol of Czech Christmas. ISBN 9790007097516. Language: Latin. Telemann's Missa brevis on the Christmas hymn Ein Kindelein so lobelich is one of eleven surviving Latin Missae breves based on church hymns. The motetlike composition calls for a mixed choir accompanied by a basso continuo, reinforced by colla-parte instruments. However, the mass can also be performed solely with an organ accompaniment. Gottlob Harrer, the successor to Johann Sebastian Bach as Thomaskantor, performed the mass in Leipzig at Christmas in 1750 and 1751 with an instrumental accompaniment and for this purpose he added two horns. They are included in the present edition as ad libitum parts. $21.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |
