Midwinter Song is a Christmas carol that calls us to love, faith, and hope. With a beautiful and supportive piano accompaniment and accessible vocal lines, this work will appeal to a wide variety of levels. Susan Labarr's Midwinter Song is a new work for Advent or Christmas. Labarr opens the piece with a gentle piano solo that perfectly captures the mystery of the poetry—the words seem to travel out of a time in the deep past and give homage to the neglected art of both rhythm and rhyme. In particular, the description of the world gathering in amber halls in the first verse wonderfully conjures images of medieval casltes or mead halls lit only with firelight and candles, full with the sound of carols. Choral Journal, May 2019, Volume 59, Number 10.

The beloved text attributed to St. Patrick is set imaginatively for SATB and organ. Mostly homophonic choral phrases have a harmonic interest and momentum that belie their difficulty level. They alternate with organ phrases that solo out the melody of the traditional Irish tune SLANE. Written for the installation of a new Létourneau organ, the piece is best served by creative registrations.

Of the Glorious Body Telling is one of several settings by Jiri Ropek of St. Thomas Aquinas' famous communion hymn, Pange lingua gloriosi. This communion anthem represents the best in practical church music: warm, accessible hormonies, memorable melody, technically within the reach of virtually any choir and musically filfilling at the highest level. Unfortunately Ropek did not date these manuscripts, so it is uncertain exactly when they were composed. Duration 3:00.
