Forsyth's Modern Wind Music is a series of volumes containing exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. In this volume for horn two aubades by David Ellis and John Golland (Ascent) reflect traditional associations of the instrument, whilst Anthony Gilbert's Two Birds by Kuring-Gai show the horn in an unusual guise and where written whilst the composer was living in the spectacular landscape of New South Wales. James Langley's music is well known to horn players and his fanfare-like Caccia for solo horn and Trident for three horns are both welcome additions to a slender repertory.

Hans Aerts (°1958) studied at the conservatory of Antwerp (clarinet), the conservatory of Brussels (counterpoint and fugue) and the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (composition). His oeuvre consists of over 100 pieces for just about any instrumental line up. Many of these pieces are specifically written to be used in music education. In his work Hans Aerts seeks to create a clear form and an alluring melodical and harmonical style. Hans Aerts lives and works in Turnhout (Belgium), where he is associated with the city’s musical academy.

Swanee is a popular song written by George Gershwin in 1919, most often associated with the singer Al Jolson. Supposedly written in 10 minutes, it is partly a parody of Stephen Foster's Old Folks at Home. Once Jolson added it to his show Sinbad the song took off and became a hit, the biggest of Gershwin's career.
Dave Machell, a top UK arranger and composer has cleverly arranged this 4-minute brass quintet work for advanced performers.
