C'est apres un entretien avec le Professeur Yuji Ikegaya concernant ses recherches en neurologie que j'ai voulu travailler sur quelques particularites fonctionnelles du cerveau humain. Quatre de ces specificites ont retenu mon attention. La premiere est ce qui est de l'ordre de l'autonomie ou de l'independance. En effet, alors qu'aucune stimulation exterieure n'ait lieu, le cerveau humain montre des activites spontanees qui s'expriment sous forme de patterns fixes. La seconde est le principe d'<> des gestes ou des phrases avec le fonctionnement des neurones miroirs : l'homme apprend en imitant les gestes des autres, c'est la source d'emotions comme la compassion ou la sympathie. La troisieme est liee a l'apprentissage spontane et l'auto-renouvellement du cerveau, faculte qui le differencie singulierement de l'ordinateur. Enfin la conscience du <>, qui est ce qui le differencie du cerveau de l'animal. J'ai trouve dans la forme classique et austere du quatuor un terrain d'exploration ideal pour elaborer ce projet musical. Le quatuor est en effet compose des quatre cerveaux des musiciens, mais il est egalement une entite a part entiere, un centre nevralgique unitaire. L'ecriture musicale procede ainsi par imitation, sur une base de patterns qui varie constamment dans une quete identitaire et dans son rapport a l'autre et aux autres (musiciens). L'autre, c'est egalement l'autiste, celui qui n'arrive pas bien a imiter et a comprendre les expressions, emotions et gestes exterieurs. La question des rapports devient alors celle de la dependance, de l'independance et/ou de l'interdependance. Elle est au centre de mon processus compositionnel qui, par l'organisation et la sonification des comportements aux differentes voix du quatuor, est egalement un moyen de me questionner en tant que compositrice, sur mon identite et sur mon propre rapport au monde. French composer and teacher, Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) was a prolific composer of the 20th century as a member of 'Les Six'. His compositions remain highly regarded, the Ballet, The Blue Train, being no exception. Milhaud'scompositions are influenced by jazz and polytonality, as exemplified in The Blue Train. Composed in 1924, The Blue Train is a Ballet based on a scenario by Jean Cocteau, and composed for the Ballets Russes. The title is taken froma night train called The Blue Train, which transported wealth passengers from Calais to the Mediterranean Sea. In his reduction for Piano, Milhaud makes use of variation in articulation, complex rhythms, chromaticism, accidentals,harmonics, altering tempos, variation in dynamics and a wide tessitura, amongst other aspects. Milhaud's The Blue Train is essential to all advanced pianists seeking modern and exciting repertoire.

George Frederic Handel (1685-1759) is a German composer whose musical legacy has lasted over three hundred years. While most people know his Hallelujah Chorus from the oratorio The Messiah, many of his other compositions are still performed around the world, including La Rejouissance from the Royal Fireworks Suite. The suite was commissioned by King George of England to celebrate the Treaty of Aix-La-Chapel. King George said he wanted only wind and percussion instruments, specifically requesting “no fiddles.†12,000 people attended the dress rehearsal of the concert. In contrast, the actual performance happened in the rain, which meant many of the fireworks did light, but managed to set the immense pavilion on fire. Handel later added strings to the Royal Fireworks Suite for a charity performance for The Foundling Hospital of London.For young students, the character of Handel’s music is defined by the types of bow strokes. Quarter notes should be played with a detached bow stroke with a hint of an accent. Eighth notes may be played more connected but will sound best with a slight detachè stroke. If more advanced students join the performance, a minimized vibrato is typical of music from the Baroque era. Terraced dynamics may be practiced by stopping just before the dynamic change and adjusting the weight of the bow arm, then proceeding in the new dynamic such as in measures 37-39.

Symphony no. 6 dates from the spring of 2009. It is dedicated to the conductor Karoly Neumayer and his orchestra, the Pecs Railway Workers' Concert Wind Ensemble. About the work, the composer writes: This three-movement composition follows the classical traditions, but the first movement further develops the Scriabin-type sonata form, combining two fast movements. In contrast to the lyricism of the second movement a subterranean, negative force also makes its presence felt but in a dramatic conflict is overcome by the massive, inspired communal singing of the lyrical material, which becomes chorale-like as it emanates from the modal scales. In his libretto for “ Riccardo primoâ€, Paolo Rolli drew on Antonio Lotti’s opera “ Isacio tiranno †which had been performed in Venice in 1710. Handel needed a text with two great women’s roles, for the two best female singers of the day were members of his troupe – Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni . He had already written the operas “Alessandro†and “ Admeto †for them. He began composing “ Riccardo †in spring 1727, completing the first version on 16 May. However, following the death of King George I on 11 June 1727, the theatres remained closed. For Handel, who had become a British citizen in February 1727, the accession of George II to the throne offered new possibilities, and he embarked on a revision of the opera. With this, he was able to offer a new opera for the coronation festivities, the hero of which was one of King George’s charismatic forebears. From May onwards, Handel thoroughly revised the present score, wrote some parts anew and expanded it with particularly splendid music. Handel and Rolli also improved the plot and introduced patriotic elements to honour the British monarchy. The historic background is the third crusade against Saladin, the Sultan of Egypt and Syria , who had recaptured Jerusalem in 1187. Although King Richard I captured Cyprus and together with French crusaders stormed the fortress of Akko in the Holy Land, the crusade ended with a ceasefire and Jerusalem remained in Saladin’s hands. Richard was given the title ‘Coeur-de-lion‹’ by the English for his great military ability and bravery, although the Sicilians had first given him this name because of his relentless cruelty in clashes around Messina . The vocal score is based on the Halle Handel Edition volume published in 2005, edited by Terence Best, and contains the second version of the opera which was premiered in November 1727.
