As recorded on Tonight Show Band, Vol. 2 (Amherst), this chart won a Grammy for best big band arrangement. Holman took this great standard, put it in 3-4, and wrote scintillating counter lines that weave their way through the whole arrangement. Solo space for trumpet, and roaring ensemble passages make this chart something that should be in every big band library in the world. 5-5-4-3.

Ever heard of Take the A Train? Not like this you haven't! Another ingenious arrangement from the towering Rich DeRosa, this up-tempo swing chart is a journey through creative waters from beginning to end and will not disappoint. In additional to incredible ensemble writing, there is improvisation space for piano and alto saxophone. As recorded by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band on their album Lab 2013, DeRosa's arrangement of Take the A Train is a must for any serious band. 5-4-4-4.

As recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra on New Sounds of Maynard Ferguson, This Willie Maiden arrangement takes a great tune and puts it in an up-tempo swing setting. The chart has a bop-like melody performed as a duet by the alto saxophone and trumpet at the beginning, and then moves into the ensemble. There is a solo for alto saxophone, followed by a roaring shout chorus. There is some high trumpet work (a la Maynard), with optional lower notes included. As always, Willie gives us another incredible arrangement sure to be loved by all audiences! 5-4-4-3.

Showcase your bari sax player with this solid sounding swinger from the pen of Andy Clark. The spotlight is on the bari and the tasteful background parts for the band provide a comfortable setting to allow your bari soloist to really cook! Includes an optional open solo section for the soloists of your choice. A great choice for any performance situation and it's sure to bring the house down! Very highly recommended!

This arrangement of I Hope In Time a Change Will Come came about through a desire to hear/play more than one chorus of this stunningly beautiful melody by Oliver Nelson. The basis for this new arrangement was Nelson's original chart, but this one is two choruses, not one. Part of the second chorus can be improvised. The soloist throughout is soprano saxophone (could be played on tenor saxophone or trumpet if you so desire). This is a slow, gorgeous ballad that will thrill your audiences. 5-4-4-3.

This chart was one of the staples in the Tonight Show Band book, and they performed this often. Tommy created a wonderful setting for this classic jazz standard. There is solo space for trumpet and tenor saxophone and lots of wonderful ensemble writing.

The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Ensemble Collection (Volume 1) is a set of eight full arrangements that correlate with selected tracks from Jamey's play along Volumes #1 (Learning to Play Jazz), #2 (Nothin' But Blues) and #88 (Millennium Blues). Peter Blair had done all the arrangements and retained the exact form and solo structure as Jamey's recordings, so your students will be able to practice all the solos from these charts using Jamey's play along tracks! The eight pieces in the collection are in contrasting styles, including modal blues, Latin grooves, 3/4 minor blues and more! The Conductor's Score includes a CD with full recordings of all the charts and the rhythm section parts are fully notated.

A magnificent alto saxophone feature. Lennie also solos on his chart on the CD Live from the Tropicana. This is a superb arrangement, using all of the textures and power and sensitivity of the Kenton Orchestra. 5-4-4-3 (opt. 10 brass).
