Concert Piece No. 5 (also known as Concert Sketch No. 5) was composed in 1938 and is the only one of five of these works that are known. After this work, the composer apparently composed his 13 concertos for the Trombone.This work is very popular for high school level performers and this premier arrangement by Benjamin Coy will allow Trombone soloists to perform the work with a large ensemble.The music is in a Russian sounding romantic style and about 7 minutes in length, appropriate for moderately advanced performers.Instrumentation for the Concert Band is:2 Flutes, Oboe, 3 Clarinets in B-flat, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, 2 Trumpets in B-flat, 2 Horns, 2 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Marimba (can be replaced with a keyboard or Xylophone) & Percussion.Cherry Classics Music is thankful to the Blazhevich Estate for giving permission to license and publish this work.

This original work is dedicated to young trumpet players everywhere, in tribute to their talent and enthusiasm. Concert Piece for Trumpet and Band conatins various styles cast in a single movement unified by a fanfare figure which begins the work and reappears at important places later in the piece. In the 13th century, he made a long journey from Venice to Mongolia with his father. After his arrival, he was sent to the various regions in Asia by the Mongolian government to take notes about the culture, the people, and the way of life in those areas. Met dit dramatische werk smeedt de Japanse Hirose een muzikale band tussen Europa en Azie, waarbij de grote zeevaarder Marco Polo deverbindende factor is. Marco Polo was niet alleen een van de eerste grote ontdekkingsreizigers ooit, hij hield ook een logboek bij van zijn avonturen. In zijn tijd deed het letterlijk een boekje open over het verre Oosten. Namase Rhapsody differs in several respects from most other concert works by Jan Van der Roost, with its impressive twists and turns and musical allusions to the work of John Adams. A first, minimalist movement, is followed by a lyrical andexpressive second movement for various soloists in different ranges. The third movement sees a stark change of mood with a rigid metrical figure before a powerful and energetic close.Met Namase Rhapsody kiest componist Jan Van der Roost voor het experiment en slaat hij nieuwe verrassende muzikale wegen in. Zo refereert hij in het eerste, bijna minimalistische deel hier en daar naar de muziek van John Adams. In het tweede,zeer expressieve deel komen verschillende solisten en instrumentengroepen aan bod om dan over te gaan in een spectaculair en dynamisch slotdeel waarin een star metrisch patroon centraal staat. Le deuxieme mouvement quant a lui est beaucoup plus melodieux et lyrique. Le troisieme developpe et elabore un impressionnant bouillonnement. Survient un passage lentet court, dramatiquement interrompu pour reprendre en un dernier eclat d'energie et de puissance.Sotto molti aspetti Namase Rhapsody si allontana dallo stile tipico di Van der Roost. La composizione colpisce per i suoi numerosi riferimenti alla musica di John Adams. Il primo movimento, minimalista ed elegante, precede una seconda parteespressiva per diversi solisti e banda. Il terzo movimento, prima dell'energico finale, apporta un cambiamento di atmosfere attraverso un sistema metrico molto accentuato.

The piece is based on Friedrich Schiller's epic 1798 poem Das Lied von der Glocke (The Song of the Bell), which is one of the most famous in all German literature. The poem draws a close parallel between human life and the process of casting a bell. It has three movements: Life Celebration, Sound the Alarm and Journey's End. Dit werk is gebaseerd op de Friedrich Schiller's epische gedicht Das Lied von der Glocke uit 1798. Het is een van de bekendste gedichten uit de Duitse literatuur. Het gedicht trekt een nauwe parallel tussen het menselijk leven en het proces van het gieten van een bel. Het heeft drie delen: Life Celebration, Sound the Alarm en Journey's End.
