Mixed Choir (Choral Score) SKU: HL.49047362 TTT-Bari-B Choral Score in Italian. Composed by Gavin Bryars. Choral Collection. Choral, Classical. Softcover. 72 pages. Schott Music #ED13303. The choice of 16th century texts, by Bronzino and Battiferri, reflects the interests of the dedicatee of these sonnets - Craig Hugh Smyth, a fine art historian and former director of the Villa I Tatti, who was a specialist in Bronzino and Pontormo. Bronzino's sonnet is a lament on the death of Pontormo, his teacher; Laura Battiferri's poem is a direct response to that of Bronzino. As I was also asked to set sonnets by Petrarca, I chose two of his closely linked sonnets, numbers 229 and 230 in the Rime Sparse. I had written a work for I Tatti some five years earlier setting Petrarca (â??A qualunque animaleâ?, the first in my Fourth Book of Madrigals) and was familiar with the context. However, through correspondence with Kathryn Bosi, Music Librarian at I Tatti and, through her, Craig Smyth's family, I became increasingly aware of his unusual and quite special character. From his undergraduate days at Princeton and indeed throughout his life, although a great scholar and writer, he was at the same time an aficionado of jazz, loving above all Louis Armstrong, being photographed with Duke Ellington, taking his children to see Thelonious Monk, listening to Ben Webster and playing the tenor saxophone himself. Indeed, he had told Kathryn Bosi that he had been proud to walk in procession at the funerals of black musicians in New Orleans. In some ways his life was almost an obverse mirror image of parts of my own - I was a professional jazz musician but found myself teaching art history for a time. As Fiorella Superbi of I Tatti has said: Craig was a maestro di vita. I raise a glass in his memory and dedicate these sonnets to him. Gavin Bryars. $21.99 - See more - Buy online

2 Pianos, 4 Hands (Parts) SKU: HL.50600477 For Two Pianos. Composed by Ferran Cruixent. Piano Duet. Classical, Contemporary. Softcover. 64 pages. Sikorski #SIK8807. Published by Sikorski (HL.50600477). 8.0x11.75x0.17 inches. Ferran Cruixent's “Binary†was commissioned by the ARD International Music Competition. The work is dedicated to a 56k Modem device. The world premiere was given during the course of the competition on 8 September 2015 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Munich. “Binary†for two pianos is a one-movement work, inspired by the composer's fascination about the dangers in human dependence in technological business, such as the obsession about media in today's mechanized and computerized society. The name Binary refers to a digital representation of text and data, whose unit can take only two possible states. Binary code is a mathematical, technological language, developed by ourselves: an organic language that creates another to be described and discovered for itself. In this piece the players are asked to play in special techniques, such as “Cyber Singing†(introduced 2010 in composer's symphonic work “Cyborgâ€). “Cyber Singing†introduces a new musical technique: the audio file prepared by the composer himself is played by themusician from his mobile phone, a device commonly used for other purposes. So, it defines a new possibility of interaction between the composer and the musician, attaining genuine communication itself. $50.00 - See more - Buy online

Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.SPS78). ISBN 9781491152553. UPC: 680160910052. Key: Bb major. Festival March is presented in a new edition arranged by Richard Summers. It is a tour de force composition for advanced bands and hearkens back to a bygone era during the golden age of the band movement. Directors and students will hear operatic music from composer Victor Herbert who is best known for his Christmas classic, Toyland. This is a richly scored masterpiece that deserves to return to standard status in concert band repertoire. We are proud to bring you this new setting of this cherished classic. Festival March by Victor Herbert was written for the Pittsburgh Symphony and first performed under Herbert’s direction in Chicago on Dec. 9, 1901 celebrating the 12th anniversary of Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. Also known as the Auditorium Festival March, he included it many times for programs of a festival nature. The main theme Auld Lang Syne, a famous Scottish folk song, is incorporated many times along with brass fanfares, interludes and march melodies. This band arrangement is very similar to the original orchestral composition. The missing string parts, the addition of the saxophone section and other band instruments, editing of the superimposed triplets against sixteenth notes, to one or the other, and articulations suitable for the band, were major challenges. The style of early twentieth-century American music is captured here. This arrangement will give band musicians access to a fine piece of music that could only be appreciated by orchestra musicians up to now. Although suitable for many occasions, this piece is a great way to begin or end a December holiday concert.  Notes to the ConductorVictor Herbert’s music can be interpreted in a romantic style, which is the conductor’s responsibility to read in nuance and musicality. The beginning and other triple-tonguing sections of this piece have a March of the Toys quality to it.  The interludes and Auld Lang Syne sections are legato and musical. The March sections can also be shaped musically.About the ComposerVictor Herbert was born in Ireland in 1861 and raised in Germany. When he moved to America in 1886, he joined the Metropolitan Opera as principal cellist and eventually composed many works including forty-three operettas on Broadway from the 1890s to World War I, including Naughty Marietta and Babes in Toyland. Victor Herbert conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony from 1898 to 1904 and then was the conductor of his own Victor Herbert Orchestra. He formed ASCAP with a group of composers in 1914 and was the director until his death in 1924. Among his thirty-one compositions for orchestra, Festival March was a favorite of his and was eventually published by Carl Fischer Music.  . $150.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Concert Band/Harmonie and Euphonium Solo - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.DHP-1043621-010 Composed by Victor E. Nessler. Arranged by Wil van der Beek. Your Favorite Classics. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2004. De Haske Publications #DHP 1043621-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1043621-010). Farewell Song has been taken from Der Trompetervon Säckingen by Victor E. Nessler (1841-1890). Thisopera tells the sentimental story of a plain musicianwho is eventually allowed to marry the daughter ofa baron. From the first performance in 1884, thisopera was well liked - not so much because of thestory but because of its musical features. Impressivetrumpet solos, drinking songs and dance scenes werethe ingredients that enthralled audiences throughoutEurope. Today, only the farewell song called JungWerner’s Abschied, also known as Behüt’ dich Gott, has remained an absolute winner. Wil van der Beekhas written a fine arrangement of this entitledFarewell Song. He felt itwas appropriate to entrustthe melody of this song, originally written for tenorvoice, to the baritone or euphonium.
$125.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra String Orchestra - medium easy SKU: CF.CAS36 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Roy Phillippe. Carl Fischer Concert String Orchestra Series. Classical. Score and Parts. With Standard notation. 12 pages. Carl Fischer Music #CAS36. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CAS36). ISBN 9780825863646. UPC: 798408063641. 8.5 X 11 inches. Key: F major. A warm and richly scored setting of the popular Christmas carol Bring a Torch Jeanette, Isabella, this full sounding arrangement will greatly enrich seasonal programming. Roy Phillippe has employed a broad palette of harmonic and instrumental colors to craft a memorable holiday selection. Bring a Torch is a lovely Christmas carol. Using techniques such as suspensions, re-harmonization and modulations, my goal is to provide an interesting showcase for this familiar melody. the introduction in F major features sustained violins with a pattern of moving eighth notes in the violas and cellos. This pattern recurs throughout the piece. The first statement of the melody is in the first violins. The second violins supply harmonic support along with the viola/cello pattern. Measures 13-29 feature a section of tutti chordal playing. Measure 30 crescendos into the modulation to D major at m. 32. Here, the dynamic is forte, and the viola/cello pattern returns. At m. 40, the violas and cellos have the melody with violin accompaniment. A crescendo begins at m. 44 and builds to fortissimo at m. 48, featuring a modulation to G major. At this point the melody should soar. A descrescendo at m. 60 is followed by a ritard at m. 64. The final four measures are in the original tempo ending on a tutti chord.Careful attention to dynamics, especially in the accompanying parts, will result in a fine performance. About Carl Fischer Concert String Orchestra Series This series of pieces (Grade 3 and higher) is designed for advancing ensembles. Chamber Ensemble; Tenor (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.49045281 Tenor, Chamber Choir, Organ, Harp, Trumpet, Cello. Composed by Alvin Singleton. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Edition Schott. Classical. Softcover. Composed 2016. 42 pages. Duration 21'. Schott Music #ED30160. Published by Schott Music (HL.49045281). ISBN 9781495078989. UPC: 888680651466. 9.0x12.0x0.3 inches. English. Prayer is one of the composer's most original and sophisticated works. The typical African-American church service seems to be a source for this piece with its interplay of sections and colors, yet the work in form and rhythmic choices is clearly 'classical' and never breaks out into easy imitations of, for example, gospel music. The work opens with the choir singing the spiritual 'My Lord, What a Mornin'' in octaves, sung flat-out a cappella, as might happen in church. The instrumental section following this opening feels very much like a thoughtful response by the congregation. Instruments seem to behave like individual churchgoers, colorfully dressed and answering various episodes with individual thoughts. As for any fears that the mighty organ might drown out the proceedings, Singleton puts that to rest by employing it almost like another choir or section of the choir. The trumpet soloist does not blast us into heaven, it tends to sing and, we find out later, is preparing us for the spiritual 'Where Shall I Be When the Firs' Trumpet Soun'?' Even the tenor soloist behaves much like just another (but still important) instrument. The composer has chosen to not only feature spirituals, but also to set a poetic text called A Christian Prayer, whose main message, almost like some modern-day Kyrie, calls out 'save us teach us ' and extols the importance of humility and the defeat of violence. Singleton has always been a composer who has simultaneously answered the call to carry out what he feels is his duty to his fellow humans while using the finest of his art to do so, and Prayer finds him at the top of his game.- Carman Moore. $84.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Brass Band - Grade 2 SKU: BT.DHP-1043545-030 From the opera Rinaldo van Georg Friedrich Händel. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by Jacob De Haan. Your Favorite Classics. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2004. De Haske Publications #DHP 1043545-030. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1043545-030). Let Me Weep (‘Lascia ch’io pianga’) is an aria from Handel’s opera ‘Rinaldo’. According to reports he composed the music for the complete opera in just 14 days, using many melodies from earlier works. The melody of this wonderful aria is known all over the world and this arrangement by Jacob de Haan retains all the passion of the original.
$78.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
