Per Norgard BACH TO THE FUTUREFor many years I have been specially fascinated by three of the preludes of Bach's Well-tempered Piano, and I wish with this concerto-version for percussion-duo and orchestra to highlight some of the structural aspects of these pieces: It is my belief that there is a tradition in the music history, that makes it possible to let certain germs in an earlier period unfold into new, but not heterogenious, dimensions of a perhaps several hundred years later phase of the tradition. This concerto is a result of several years collaboration with Uffe Savery and Morten Friis (Safri-Duo), as well in original compositions - (Resonances, Repercussion, Resume in EchoZone I-III) as in arrangements of the 3 Bach preludes, preparing for the enormous stylistic challenges of this work.A few introductory comments to each movement:I Movement: The archetypal sequence of broken chords within C-major has established itself as almost a cultural code, allowing the composer of 1996 to tell his tale-in-tones only by stressing and colouring the tones in the original piece without changing the pitches or (relative) durations as a 'palimpsest' containing as well the old as the new musical tale simultaneously. Later in the movement, this singleline is multiplied by the, till then discrete, but permanently pervading, proportion - throughout the piece - very close to the 'Golden Section'(= 3:5:8.t.i:8 before repetition, 5 before starting anew from the deepest tone, 3 as the rest etc. unchanged). The 3 tonal levels as well as the 3 relative speeds are treated according to these proportions for certain passages, but even in those the main focal point is directed at the freely invented melody (by me) incarnating itself solely by the unpermutad sequels of the original prelude.II Movement: One feature of the F sharp-prelude pervades all the six minutes-long second movement: A 4 times identical rhythmic pattern = 6:4:3:2:3:4:6 - as an hourglass-shaped timeshape - inspired me by the closeness of this pattern to a shape within the infinity-drumming of my invention, called Wide-Fan and Narrow-Fan , referring to pattern consisting of 8:4:2:1:2:4:8, the familiarity with the above - quoted one being obvious. New and old elaborations of this pattern-pair permeates the movement, especially since the Safri-Duo by their performance of my Repercussion had augmented my appetite for including this idiom in a wider context:III Movement: Without the existence of the d-minor-prelude I doubt that I would have dared to write a work like this, since it is the inexhaustible, rare quality and pecularity of this piece, which has stimulated my feeling of wonder and 'modernity' (or: eternity!) of this piece, of which I know of no equal in its special respect: the perpetual ambiguity of melodic foothold in the rhythmic ostinato of a broken descending triad, co. $82.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Guitar solo SKU: GH.GE-11464 Composed by Benjamin Staern. Duration 15 minutes. Gehrmans Musikforlag #GE 11464. Published by Gehrmans Musikforlag (GH.GE-11464). ISBN 979-0-070-11464-6. A4 inches. Work note by the composer: When I received the news of this commission, I had no idea what it would lead to. Writing for guitar solo is not the same as composing for orchestra where you have forty voices where you can easily mask an entire section. Here you are very naked to the bone. The starting point for this work was from J.S. Bach's Chaconne in D-minor that Johannes had performed in concert, originally written for violin but there is a version transcribed for guitar and piano made by Ferruccio Busoni. When I went to Cortona (in Tuscany, Italy) completed the southern mentality of this work. Arpalineais actually a merged word in Italian language. Arpa means harp, however in a musical context it's more or less resembled with the word arpeggio, which means broken chords. Lineameans line. The work is divided in three parts. I. Arpeggio: It starts with an opening chaconne-like sequence and is marked with a certain depth in which the chords starts to separate from the organum note in the bass and it culminates into a section called with rhythmical focus. These sections alternates, variates which each other. The middle section has a playful and childish atmosphere where the guitarist knocks on the body of the guitar resembling a Spanish folk instrument cajon. This is leading to a section which tends more to a very aggressive fusion-like riff that loses control and reaches its climax at the end. II. Linea: The static rhytmical pulse is now disintegrated and it forms more or less sort of a free, improvisational state in a rubatolike tempo. The character is described as a very hot day with temperatures rising above 37! C (or 100! F) where you can hardly do anything just sitting dozed off and pespiring because of the extreme heat watching a huge fog coming up in the evening that spreads around the Tuscan atmosphere. III. Finale: It starts off with fast one-note ostinati then more and more notes pop up like a gradual rain storm with thunder strikes! And eventually it leads to that is a large flood through the streets of an medieval Southern town. The work ends with a short circuit slapped strings along with extremely fast tremolos that reaches higher and louder as possible! (Book) SKU: HL.49046464 Book 1 Hardcover. Edited by Thomas Kohlhase. Classical, German Edition. Hardcover. 752 pages. Schott Music #ED22750-10. Published by Schott Music (HL.49046464). UPC: 840126930801. This complete edition, which is the first outside Russia, of the almost fourteen-year correspondence between P. I. Tchaikovsky and the music-loving patron (and wealthy widow of a Baltic railway entrepreneur) N. F. von Meck represents for German-speaking readers and music historians an indispensable primary source on the life and work of the greatest Russian composer as well as on his environment, while, at the same time, reflecting the political, cultural and social situation of the Russian Empire from the perspective of two privileged, educated and regime-loving subjects. The life of the large families Tchaikovsky-Davydov and von Meck, the unpleasant consequences of the composer's unhappy marriage, faith and religion, literature, philosophy, the reception of earlier and contemporary Russian and European music, fine arts, foreigntravel, political, economic and social conditions - even farming (in Brailov and Kamenka/Verbovka, the Ukrainian estates of the von Meck and Davydov families) and many more are the topics of this correspondence between two related and yet so different personalities who, as agreed, never met in personal conversation and yet talked to each other in lively, often confessional speech. The texts of the letters in the present edition (whose planning dates back to the 1950s), with the added contrasting excerpts from letters of Tchaikovsky to other persons, such as his trusted brothers Anatoly and Modest, have been revised according to the new Russian Complete Edition by Polina Vajdman (Celjabinsk 2007 ff.). Various introductions, accompanying texts and overviews as well ascomprehensive indices (one of them systematically by subjects), together with numerous explanations and notes at the bottom of the pages, make it easier for the reader to find his/her way through the more than 1,200 documents (281 of which are in Volume I). Volume II of the edition, which is also available for subscription, is scheduled for publication in autumn 2021 and Volume III one year later. $105.00 - See more - Buy online

Piano - intermediate SKU: BT.EMBZ15079 The Bartók Performing Editions-Instruktive Ausgaben von Béla Bártok. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. EMB Music of Bela Bartok. Tuition. Book Only. Composed 2019. 148 pages. Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ15079. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ15079). English-German. Bach's Wohltemperiertes Klavier was Bartók's first instructional publication, divided into four books. Bartók became a professor of piano at the Budapest Music Academy in 1907, and it was probably in this capacity that he was entrusted with preparing a Hungarian edition of the set of pieces. His basic idea was that students learning independently without adequate guidance should receive sufficient directions from the music to perform the works. As a consequence Bartók's score is deliberately over-detailed.For pedagogical reasons the composer ignored the original order of pieces, and compiled the material according to grades of difficulty, dividing it into four books. Thepresent edition presents the Bartók Wohltemperiertes Klavier in two volumes, each containing two books. One interesting feature of the Bartók edition is that two of the fugues in both book III and book IV are written out in full score, to accustom the pupil to score-reading. For some pieces he deliberately refrained from providing performance indications, to give pianists an opportunity to exercise their creativity. The current edition is not a reprint: errors we know of have been corrected, and the layout of the score has been re-arranged keeping in mind the need to turn pages. This edition which includes Bartók's detailed comments is complemented by facsimiles of Bach's manuscript and an afterword by László Somfai. $43.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
