Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) began composition of his Great Mass in C minor, K. 427/417a in 1782 as a promise to himself to write a major work for his native Salzburg. This period was shortly after he had moved to Vienna in 1781, and Mozart wrote in a letter that he made the promise before having married Constanze, a decision which his father Leopold disapproved, though he only really began the work after the marriage, completing all that he did in 1783. The work remained uncompleted from the sense of a liturgical mass, missing some of the Credo movements, all of the Agnus Dei, and parts of the Sanctus and the Benedictus, and Mozart called it a half a mass in a letter to his father. Despite this, all that was completed was performed at a liturgical mass on October 23, 1783, at St. Peter's Church in Salzburg during Mozart and Constanze's three-month sojourn there to introduce Constanze to the family. It is believed that Mozart borrowed from other works to make it complete for a liturgical performance, and it is thought likely that Constanze sang the high first soprano solo part. The work remained in this state until German musicologist Alois Schmitt's work to complete the mass was published in 1902. The Schmitt edition became the standard edition throughout the 20th century. The Concerto remains widely studied and performed on the Flute, making it one of the most important Concerti in the instrument's repertoire. Concerto in G is in three movements; 1. Allegro maestoso, 2. Adagio ma non troppo, and 3. Rondo: Tempo di Menuetto. The first and last movements are in the tonic key, whilst the second movement is in the subdominant key of D major. A Dutch flautist of the time, Ferdinand de Jean, commissioned Mozart for four Flute quartets and three Flute concerti. However, the composer, who famously disliked the Flute, only completed three quartets and two concertos. Instead of composing a second concerto, Mozart rearranged his Oboe Concerto, with substantial changes for it to fit with the Flute. This edition of Mozart's Concerto in G includes cadences by virtuosos Taffanel, Gaubert and Bozza, making for an unmissable version of the famed work. .

Michael Haydn (1737-1806), younger brother of Josef Haydn, had been in the employ of Colloredo, Archbishop in Salzburg as Court Composer and Leader (Concertmaster) of the court orchestra. In 1783, he was commissioned - or a better word perhaps - ordered by Colloredo to compose a series of six duets for violin and viola. Due to serious illness, he was unable to complete the series. Haydn was concerned that the Archbishop would cancel his fee. Haydn asked his friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) to complete the work by writing the remaining two duets. Mozart composed the duets in a few days, in time to meet the Archbishop's timeline. For this reason, all six duets were delivered under Michael Haydn's name. The present edition is the first that reunites the six duets - naturally with the correct attributions. Included in volume 1: 4. Duet in B flat Major K 424 (W.A. Mozart); 5. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) wrote the SERENADE No. 5 in D Major, K. 204/213a on August 5, 1775 for ceremonies at the University of Salzburg. Concurrently writing his five violin concertos, the composer chose to feature a solo violin in three of the movements. While it retains a seven-part structure, an impromptu violin concerto is cleverly couched within the work.
