This song was written by David Foster, who has also penned many previous hits which have been performed and recorded by such artists as Céline Dion, Lionel Richie, Madonna and Michael Bublé. Because We Believe owes its fame to the performance by Andrea Bocelli during the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics held in Torino during 2006. Finish any concert with this great anthem and your audience will leave with a great feeling of well-being!

Andrea Bocelli en Marco Borsato hadden elkaar al meerdere malen ontmoet toen ze het plan opvatten om samen eens iets op te nemen. Begin 2006 zongen ze in Bocelli’s studio in Italië het prachtige duet Because We Believe in.Het nummer werd geschreven door David Foster, die al eerder verantwoordelijk was voor successen van andere wereldsterren, zoals Céline Dion, Lionel Richie, Madonna en Michael Bublé. Because We Believe dankt zijn bekendheidaan de solo-uitvoering door Andrea Bocelli tijdens de sluitingsceremonie van de Olympische Winterspelen in Turijn op 26 februari 2006. The French composer Louis Bourgeois lived from c.1510 to 1560. Bourgeois was cantor in Geneva and, commissioned by John Calvin, he composed melodies for metrical (rhyming) versions of the psalms. After completing about a hundred one-part psalms, he made some four-part arrangements, which were denounced and even resulted in his imprisonment for a day. Later, Bourgeois published a number of psalm collections, and judging from his book Le droict chemin de musique he was also an excellent educator. The melodies Bourgeois composed, are (contrary to Gregorian chants) particularly suitable for community singing. This applies to his hymn tune Saint Michael, which is why this melody hasbeen used for various texts, written for many occasions. John Blanken made this arrangement for a wedding ceremony: an occasion in which faith and trust play a large - if not the largest - role. Hence the title Hymn of Faith. The arrangement contains four verses of the hymn. After a majestic opening the hymn follows twice, the second verse being embellished in the tenor register. After a short interlude verse three follows, played by a quartet. The majestic opening is then repeated as a modulation into the fourth verse, which concludes the work in a brilliant tutti.

De melodieën van de France componist Louis Bourgeois (ca. 1510-1560) zijn heel geschikt voor volkszang - zo ook de hymne ST Michael. Niet voor niets is deze melodie gebruikt voor vele liedteksten voor uiteenlopende gelegenheden. JohnBlanken maakte dit arrangement voor een trouwdienst, een gelegenheid waarbij vertrouwen een grote rol speelt, vandaar de titelHymn of Faith. Het arrangement herbergt vier vrezen. Na een majestueuze opening volgt de hymnetwee keer, waarbij het tweede vers wordt omgespeeld in het tenorregister. Na een kort tussenspel volgt vers drie in een zetting voor kwartet. De opening wordt herhaald als modulatie naar het vierde vers, waarmee het werk in eenstralend tutti afsluit.

This major concert work cosists o five movements.1st movement: La Laguna del ShimbeSituated high up in the Andes mountains in Northern Peru are the Huaringas, a group of lagoons in isolated and mysterious surroundings. The water has healing powersand for centuries traditional healers have settled there in small villages. From far the sick come to the Huaringas to be treated in nightly rituals, in which the hallucinating juice of the San Pedro cactus gives the prophet a look inside hispatient. The biggest lagoon is the “Laguna del Shimbe”, one of the countless wells of the immense Amazon stream.2nd movement: Los AguarunasFurther downstream in Northern Peru we come across the rain tribe of Los Aguarunas. It’s a proud, beautiful andindependent race, which has never succumbed to domination, not even from the Incas. They live from everything the forest has to offer: fish, fruit, plants, ... . They also grow some crops and live as semi-nomads. They take their fate into their ownhands and after having made contact with modern civilisation, they have integrated new elements into their lives without betraying their own ways.3rd movement: MekaronMekaron is an Indian word meaning “picture”, “soul”, “essence”. The Indians are theorigina inhabitants of the Amazon region. They either live in one place as a group or move around a large region. They all have their own political system, their own language and an intense social life. At the same time they are master of music andmedicine. “Everywhere the white man goes, he leaves a wilderness behind him”, wrote the North American Indian leader Seatl in 1885. As a result of these contacts with the whites, the disruption of most Indian societies began. (In this century alone,80 tribes have vanished completely).4th movement: KêêtuajêThis is the name of the initiating ceremony of the Krahô tribe in the Brazilian state of Goias, in which young boys and girls enter adult life. They are cleansed with water, painted with redpaint and covered with feathers, after which the ritual dance holds the entire tribe spell-bound.5th movement: Paulino FaiakanIn 1988 the Indian chiefs Faiakan and Raoni Kaiapo came to Europe to protest against the building of the Altamira dam inBrazil. As a result of the dam the Indians would be driven from their traditional land and enormous artificial would be created. The project was supported financially by, amongst others, the European Community. In February 1989 the Indian tribesaround Altamira held a protest march for the first time in their history together. Amongst other things they paid tribute tot Chico Mendez, who, murdered in 1988, was the leader of the rubber syndicate and a fierce opponent of the destruction of theBrazilian rain forest. Brazilian and world opinion was awakened. The building of the dam was -albeit temporarily - stopped.

Klezmer music originated in the ‘shtetl’ (villages) and the ghettos of Eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as ‘klezmorim’, had performed at celebrations, particularly weddings, since the early Middle Ages. Since the 16th century, lyrics had been added to klezmer music, due to the ‘badkhn’ (the master of ceremony at weddings), to the ‘Purimshpil’ (the play of Esther at Purim) and to traditions of the Yiddish theatre, but the term gradually became synonymous with instrumental music, particularly featuring the violin and clarinet. In recent years it has again become very popular and in A Klezmer Karnival Philip Sparke has used three contrasting traditionaltunes to form a suite that will bring a true karnival atmosphere to any concert.

De wortels van de klezmerstijl liggen in wereldlijke melodieën, populaire dansen, het joodse ‘hazanut’ (cantorijmuziek) en de ‘nigunim’, de melodieën die worden gereciteerd door de ‘hasidim’ (orthodoxe joden). De term werd in de loopder tijden synoniem aan instrumentale muziek, waarin met name de viool en klarinet de hoofdrol spelen. Voor A Klezmer Karnival zijn drie traditionele melodieën gebruikt: Choson kale mazel tov, een bruiloftsdans,Freylekh, een joodse kringdans, en Sherele, een Duitse herdersdans.

Philip Sparke verarbeitete in seinem Werk drei unterschiedliche traditionelle Klezmermelodien: einen Hochzeitstanz mit Glückwünschen für Braut und Bräutigam, einen Rundtanz und einen so genannten Scherentanz. Daraus entstand A Klezmer Karnival, das die dem Klezmer eigene Mischung aus Fröhlichkeit und Melancholie ausgezeichnet wiedergibt. Ein ebenso abwechslungsreiches wie stimmungsvolles Konzertwerk, mit dem Ihr Blasorchester überzeugen wird!

A Klezmer Karnival (“Festival klezmer”) de Philip Sparke rassemble trois airs traditionnels : Choson Kale Mazel Tov - une danse nuptiale, Freylekh - une danse juive en cercle et Sherele - littéralement « petits ciseaux » - une danse de bergers, d’origine allemande.

Scottish Dances is based on three Scottish traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond and Marie's Wedding.

I. Cock of the North's name is used for multiple things or events. For example for a locomotive to a famous, it seems, delicious liqueur, and rallies to snowboard competitions. Furthermore is Cock O' the North a nickname of a famous Duke. (The 4th Duke of Gordon).
In this composition Cock of the North (a Jig) is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune, regularly played on tattoos by Pipe Bands. Not infrequently the drummers sing the text.

II. The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond is about a sad story that took place during an revolt against the British. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie had to retreat. Two of his men were captured. One was convicted and executed, while the other was released. The spirit of the executed soldier would arrive in Scotland via the 'low road' (underworld) before his companion, who had still a long way to go.

III. In a Scottish wedding, after the official ceremonies, there is often danced. This is called a ceilidh. For this we use traditional Scottish music such as Marie's Wedding '.
Mid dance we go back to the church, where a lovely song in honor of the couple sounds.
Marie's Wedding has been recorded by Van Morrison (among many others).

Scottish Dances is gebaseerd op drie Schotse traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond en Marie's Wedding.

I. De naam Cock of the North wordt voor meerdere dingen of evenementen gebruikt. Van een beroemdelocomotief tot een, naar het schijnt, een heerlijke likeur, en van rally's tot snowboard wedstrijden. Bovendien was 'Cock O' the North' een bijnaam van een bekende hertog. (the 4th Duke of Gordon)
Het in deze compositiegebruikte Cock of the North (een Jig) is een traditioneel Schotse bagpipe tune (doedelzak liedje) wat regelmatig gespeeld wordt op taptoes door Pipebands. Niet zelden zingen de slagwerkers de tekst mee.

II. 'The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond', gaat over een triest verhaal dat zich afspeelde tijdens een opstand tegende Engelsen. In 1745 moest Bonnie Prince Charlie zich terugtrekken. Twee van zijn mannen werden gevangen genomen. Eén van hen werd veroordeeld en geexecuteerd, terwijl de ander vrijgelaten werd. De geest van de geexecuteerde soldaatzou via de 'low road' (onderwereld) eerder in Schotland aankomen dan zijn kameraad, die nog een lange ruige weg te gaan had.

III. Bij een Schotse bruiloft wordt na de officiele plechtigheden vaak gedanst. Dit noemt men een ceilidh. Hiervoor gebruiktmen traditionele Schotse muziek zoals bijv. 'Marie's Wedding'.
Halverwege de dans gaan we nog even terug naar de kerk, waar een lieflijk lied ter ere van het bruidspaar klinkt.

Song of Friendship was commissioned by the Concert Band of Jumonji University, Saitama, Japan and their conductor, Yutaka Nishida. The commission marked the 50th year of Yutaka Nishida’s involvement with bands as a player, conductor and radio presenter. The ceremonial Song of Friendship opens with an extended fanfare, largely featuring the brass section. This leads to the main theme, which develops slowly until it is played by the full band. A change of key signals a contrasting central section containing a quiet woodwind chorale, which grows until the return of the triumphant sounding main theme. Elements of the opening fanfare then close the work.

Song of Friendship werd geschreven voor het harmonieorkest van de Jumonji University in Saitama, Japan, en dirigent Yutaka Nishida. De opdracht markeerde tevens het vijftigste jaar dat Yutaka Nishida al actief was met blaasorkesten als muzikant, dirigent en radiopresentator. Song of Friendship opent met een uitgebreide fanfare waarin vooral de kopersectie aan het woord is. Dit gedeelte leidt naar het hoofdthema, dat geleidelijk verder wordt uitgewerkt tot het door het volledige orkest wordt gespeeld. Een modulatie kondigt een contrasterend middendeel aan, met een rustig koraal in het hout dat zich verder ontwikkelt tot aan de terugkeer van hettriomfantelijk klinkende hoofdthema. Het werk wordt afgesloten met elementen uit de openingsfanfare.

Song of Friendship wurde vom Blasorchester der Jumonji University in Saitama (Japan) und seinem Dirigenten Yutaka Nishida in Auftrag gegeben. Song of Friendship est une commande de l’orchestre d’harmonie de l’Université de Jumonji, Saitama, Japon, et de leur chef Yutaka Nishida. La commande marque aussi la 50e année de l’engagement de Yutaka Nishida avec des bands, que ce soit comme joueur, chef d’orchestre ou présentateur radio. Le cérémonial Song of Friendship commence par une longue fanfare, mettant en scène en particulier les cuivres. Ceci nous mène au thème principal qui se développe ensuite graduellement jusqu’ une interprétation par l’ensemble entier. Une modulation signale le début de la section centrale contrastante. Elle se caractérise par un choral calme pour les bois qui se développeensuite jusqu’au retour du triomphant thème principal. Des éléments de la fanfare du début finissent alors l’œuvre.

Il celebrativo Song of Friendship si apre con un esteso tema di fanfara che presenta ampiamente la sezione degli ottoni.
