This work grew out of the co-creator's love for the tunes and texts coming out of the Appalachian Mountains and the shape-note and early Moravian singing tradition. In the words of Tim Sharp, ââ¬ÅWe took the image of bands of angels singing and playing at the Nativity as reported in the second chapter of Luke's gospel, transported that image to Appalachia, and Angel Band is the result.ââ¬Â Containing 8 carols (mostly familiar), a processional and recessional, Angel Band is a fusion of ideas ranging from medieval tunes to contemporary bluegrass.

For SSSSAATBB unaccompanied In this haunting arrangement of the well-known carol, Higgins creates a mystical soundscape by layering a single motif in a four-part soprano canon. These repetitions echo throughout and support the various textures explored in each verse, producing a dramatic and atmospheric setting of the Basque carol.

Composed for the internationally regarded Choir of New College, Oxford, and its conductor Edward Higginbottom, Rhian Samuel's What Cheer? is a bright and uplifting new setting of words already familiar to singers from popular carols by William Walton and Peter Warlock. The scoring is for SATB choir and organ, with optional short solos for soprano, alto and bass. An eminent and established song composer, Samuel has brought to this text, originally from a 16th-century commonplace book compiled by Richard Hill, her own idiomatic response to the tradition of music for Christmas. Though written for one of the world's great vocal ensembles, What Cheer? is well within the range of accomplished amateur choirs, and the effective scoring for voices captures in ringing choral sounds the buoyant optimism of this poetic celebration of Christ's birth.

One Silent Night long ago, a birth story began that forever changed the world. Lying in a crude manger was a new-born babe, who would become the Source of our Christian faith and our abiding hope. Using the power and simplicity of the event itself, composer and creator Pepper Choplin presents each of the familiar elements of that story through ballad-like recitatives of scripture, surrounded by anthems ranging from outbursts of unbridled joy to moving moments of introspection and gentleness. Weaving familiar carols and songs throughout original music, this timeless tale emerges in a deeply moving presentation that will lift one’s faith and deepen one’s understanding of the profound significance of that One Silent Night. John Rutter (b.1945) is one of England's best known composers of choral literature. While his choral works, including Te Deum, Magnificat, and Requiem, are the most familiar, he has also written numerous instrumental works. Rutter composed the Nativity Carol for SATB chorus and organ in 1963, and it was published in 1967 as part of a collection entitled Carols for Two Choirs. Although the title suggests a seasonal work, its musical richness lends itself favorably for performance at any time of the year.
