Ballet an its Music traces the influence of the outstanding personalities in the world of ballet from the seventeenth century to the present day. The development of dance-technique and ballet music is followed from the courtly and peasant dances of the High Renaissance through to contemporary productions. The author deals in detail not only with the great choreographers, past and present, but also with the composers whose names are especially linked with ballet and who have made a significant contribution to music for the dance. She combines a historical narrative with a perceptive treatment of world-famous Schools and Companies. Ballet and its Music is copiously illustrated with photographs and engravings. A special feature of the book is the collection of music extracts from many famous ballets, arranged for piano solo, which will make it particularly attractive to the student an amateur musician. Althrough primarily intended for young people embarking on a study of ballet, the wealth of information contained in this book will make it a stimulating and invaluable guide for readers of all ages.

Written at the height of Elgar's powers in 1917, The Sanguine Fan was inspired by a scene depicting Pan and Echo that a local artist had drawn in sanguine on a fan. The ballet was originally composed as part of a matinee performance in March 1917 in aid of wartime charities. This study score edition is the ideal choice for both academic study and performance preparation.

The Seven Ballet Scenes have been extracted from a ballet music that I composed in 2008. The basic idea was to use different combinations of the three instruments and to get very different characters and forms of movement, which nevertheless form a whole. There is a piece for cello solo, one for violin and piano, one for violin and cello etc. At the beginning, in the middle and at the end there are different variants of a fast movement for all three instruments, which form a kind of refrain. Panorama from the Ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet suite “Sleeping Beauty” premiered in St. Petersburg in 1890. To this day, “Sleeping Beauty” remains one of the most popular ballets and is a staple in the classical ballet repertoire. The panorama from the 2nd act of the ballet suite depicts the joint journey of the young, enamored Prince Désiré with the Lilac Fairy through an enchanted forest to his beloved Aurora, whom he wishes to marry. Throughout this enchanting scene, a magical and mysterious music unfolds.

The Overture in E major and the Scene de Ballet are among the earliest works written by Sibelius for orchestra. Infused with all the freshness of youth, they also hint at the great symphonist to come. Sibelius's handling of the orchestra is surprisingly refined and colourful.

30-minute suite for orchestral with female chorus from Khachaturian's celebrated ballet, Spartacus (1955). Scene 9 presents the culmination of the drama, to music strongly reminiscent of Khachaturian's Cello Concerto: Spartacus – among treacherous pirates – faces the apparent collapse of the rebellion, and his death is followed by a powerful yet relatively restrained Requiem with chorus, followed by a stirring apotheosis. Performance materials available on hire. Suitable for advanced standard performers.
