The Rocky Road to Dublin is a song written by Irish poet D. K. Gavan in the mid-nineteenth century for English music-hall performer Harry Clifton and tells the story of an Irish man leaving his hometown of Tuam in the county of Galway in Ireland to go to Dublin to make money. Because of the Great Potato Famine at that time, large groups of Irish folks left their hometowns looking for food and work. Thousands ended up in America, in particular, Philadelphia, where many made their way south through the Appalachian mountains, settling in southwest Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. As the Irish began their new lives here in America, they would often sing these songs, which would bring back fond memories of their homeland. Many old-time fiddle tunes can be traced to Irish music, including this song. However, their music changed as the songs were passed around through other cultures in the mountains, with new verses about their new lives. Often the tunes and lyrics made their way back overseas where they would change yet again, so there are many versions of these songs found in both Ireland and America. This setting is close to the original and can be found in both places. It gets to the heart of having to leave one’s home to seek a better life. This tune is a fun one and should be played with a lilt until m. 43. At this point, the original material is more legato, but returns at m. 59 in the alto saxophone. Let the percussion play on their solis, especially at the end where some of them answer the band motifs. The straight eighth notes (as at m. 29) will perhaps look difficult to younger players, but once they understand the concept, it will be a favorite part. Have fun! $11.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

Soli SATB, SATB Choir, 2 Ob, Tl (Eh), 2 Vl, Va, Vc, organ obl, Bc SKU: CA.3118814 Cantata for the 21st Sunday after Trinity. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Pieter Dirksen. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Basso continuo. Sacred vocal music, End of the church year, Trinity. Single Part, basso continuo. Composed 1728. BWV 188. 16 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.188/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3118814). ISBN 9790007210069. Language: German/English. The cantata Ich habe meine Zuversicht BWV 188 comes from the so-called Picander cycle and was written for the 21st Sunday after Trinity in 1728 or 1729. There are some particular problems associated with its transmission. The original set of parts was lost, and the manuscript score only survives in fragmentary form. Probably as early as the 18th century the score was divided up into numerous separate parts in order to make more money, or to be able to provide as many Bach relics as possible for posterity. The first movement, an instrumental sinfonia, is missing apart from the final bars. We simply know that this sinfonia is based on the 3rd movement of the Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1052 in D minor and that instead of the harpsichord, an obbligato organ was envisaged. Its successful reconstruction by the baroque specialist and organist Pieter Dirksen now makes it possible to perform the cantata again complete with the introductory sinfonia. Piano SKU: AY.PN3058PM Composed by Gloria Rodriguez. Keyboards - Piano. Sheet music. Duration 4'. Periferia Publishing #PN3058PM. Published by Periferia Publishing (AY.PN3058PM). ISBN 9790543573789. According to the distinguished musicologist Juan Bautista Varela, the Galician Treboada is a musical term out of the songbook, as its sense is merely musical. From a lexicographical point of view it means thunderstorm, storm, squall, etc. It is almost an onomatopoeic sense, due to the great noise that the bass drums, fundamental elements of the Treboada, make. The Treboada is played always on the eves of celebrations or feasts and it is played by three or five bass drums, one or two Galician bagpipes and a drum. The dispersion area of the Treboada is much reduced, according to the poet and essayist Eliseo Alonso Rodriguez, it comprises the parishes of Forcadela and Estas, both of them belong to the town of Tomino. Xose Hernique Rodriguez Portela, from Tomino, says that they also play it on the feast of the Virgin of St. Mary of Tomino eve (Virgen del Alivio de Santa Maria de Tomino). I owe him the idea of this piece, because Xose Henrique described to me how the bass drums sound in the distance, early in the morning, like great roars along with blank bullets that are shot every time a particular house donates money for the feast and they gradually approach the house until it trembles. He sang the melody I wrote and he confessed he had heard it not long ago in the rehearsal of a popular folk group where there was only a percussionist and a Galician bagpipe player, as with the drums it is difficult to appreciate the bagpipe. I also mix the Treboada with an Alborada, because in Galicia almost all the churches have loudspeakers that play this melody at around nine o'clock in the morning, the same time that the Treboada of Tomino starts playing. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1064079-020). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. The Golden Age is a programmatic composition in four movements. I Overture For the Netherlands, the seventeenth century was a period of great flourishing in the fields of economy, culture and politics; thus it is called the Golden Age. Overseas trade boomed, and the Dutch East India Company (known as the VOC by the Dutch) was founded and expanded to become a powerful -and, at the time - modern enterprise. II ¡Adiós españoles!(Farewell, Spaniards!) In 1567, the Spanish army invaded, led by the Duke of Alva. There was a fierce resistance against the Spanish tyranny; toward the end of the sixteenth century, the Dutch proclaimed theRepublic. However, the Spanish continued the war. Only with the Treaty of Münster in 1648 did the Dutch get their much sought-after independence. This was also the end of the Eighty Years’ War. III Rembrandt’s Night WatchThe field of culture, particularly literature, painting, sculpture, architecture, the art of printing, and cartography developed fast. It was in the Golden Age that the celebrated painter Rembrandt van Rijn created his famous Night Watch. IV The Admiral Overseas trade entailed the colonization of large areas in Asia, from where precious products that yielded lots of money were brought in. Surrounding countries were also involved in such practices. Colonizers poached on each other’s territories in the literal and figurative sense - in this context the Anglo-Dutch Sea Wars are legendary. The fourth movement starts with the English patriotic song Rule Britannia, after which the Dutch Admiral Michiel de Ruyter makes the English change their tune; one can even hear the roaring of cannons. When the smoke of battle has cleared, a small fragment of a Dutch song about Michiel de Ruyter appears, followed by a fitting closing.
