The Three folk songs for double mixed choir (1. Tirlil, 2. Sommernacht, 3. Der Spielman) were completed while Mikko Heinio studied in Berlin, 1977. They were commissioned by Hans Hilsdorf, who was then Heinio's teacher in orchestra conducting, and he specifically requested folk songs. Although these songs are primarily arrangements, Heinio wanted to avoid the typical chunk-by-chunk verse structure and provide a continuous texture, instrumental if you like. The text is in Finnish and in German, translation by the composer.

The division of the Te Deum into two parts at Dresden (and probably also elsewhere) clearly originated in the fact that the Eucharistic blessing was given before the Salvum fac populum tuum. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4047100.

The present edition of Herzlich lieb hab ich dich, o Herr invites us to rediscover one of the most significant cantatas before Johann Sebastian Bach. Ever since the rediscovery of Buxtehude's cantatas in the second half of the 19th century, the setting of the third verse with its special string tremolo sound effect aroused particular interest. There was mention of mystical tremors and of meditation. Contemporaries judged the cantata to be a pinnacle of North German chorale setting. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3604100.

Adaptation of the motet Tristis est anima mea, attributed to Johann Kuhnau. The motet Der Gerechte kommt um comes down to us as part of the Passion cantata Ein Lammlein geht und tragt die Schuld by Carl Heinrich Graun, into which movements by various other composers, including Bach and Telemann, were also later inserted. According to the research of Diethard Hellmann, editor of this edition, the motet was originally an a cappella composition by Johann Kuhnau with the text Tristis est anima mea, which then was adapted - most likely by Bach - with a new text and the addition of instrumental parts. This work has survived in an autograph, unfortunately undated, preserved in the Duben Collection. The cantata is a setting of Ecclesiasticus 50, verses 24-26. This composition is one of the most richly scored vocal compositions of Buxtehude. A ritornello, which includes a fanfare of trumpets, and a longer vocal section based on Nun danket alle Gott create the work's structure. In Nun danket alle Gott Buxtehude indicated in detail, in at least one instance, the use of an a cappella entrance of the choir. If the sections without instrumental accompaniment are sung by soloists, the choir is added in the tutti passages. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3601600.

The Missa Sancti Henrici is a work of Biber's later years. It is one of his largest and most mature pieces of church music. With the skillful alternation of the stile antico and the stile moderno, as well as the contrast between Solo and Tutti, Biber attained a structure within the individual movements rich in variety. In its original architectural conception, Salzburg Cathedral had four galleries, each with its own organ, on the piers supporting the dome at the crossing. This conception created the spatial prerequisite for double- and polychoral performance tradition on the Venetian model. Biber's magnificent sacred music brought this tradition to a point of culmination in a ,,colossal style that was unique in transalpine Europe. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4067600.

- edition based on the autograph, from which Handel conducted the first performance - detailed foreword in three languages - critical Report with information about the source situation, the edition, and containing the individual readings (alternative readings, etc.) Great occasions call for great music The Dettingen Te Deum is a brilliant example of how Handel could capture the tone for festive occasions as had never been done before. The expression of the exalted character of this official work is imparted through Handel's express use of timpani and trumpets. Gentler and more serious movements effectively complement the work. The basis for the present critical edition of this work is the London autograph, which has survived and from which Handel probably conducted the first performance. In addition, the initial concluding version of the chorus Make them to be number'd has been published in this edition. In this version Handel strived for a more compact and stricter voice leading. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5528300.

The present cantata is a setting of the first three verses of the hymn Du Friedefurst, Herr Jesu Christ, with a text by Jakob Ebert (1549-1614). In the variety of ways for deploying the instruments in concert and the alternation between the instrumental and vocal parts, it goes beyond the comparatively simple model found in other cantatas of Buxtehude. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3603400.
