Faure's Les Berceaux (The Cradles), Opus 23 No. 1 written in 1879 is a song set from a poem by Prudhomme. The song's melody is simple, flowing, lyrical and sad. It beautifully describes ships as they head out to sea carrying men, lured by the mystery of the seas, rocked in the water and cradled by women and held back by the soul of The Cradles. Faure's magical enchanting style in this 3 minute work is captured perfectly by Jason Beghtol's fine arranement for Intermediate Trombone.

Alexander Scriabin's music has been described as mystical, lyrical and idiosyncratic. He was a most innovative and controversial early modern Russian composer. His works were ignored for many years until recently and are now seen as sincere expression(s) of genius.

The Three Etudes for Trombone and Piano are early works of Scriabin, originally written for solo Piano. They show lyricism, passion, moodiness, chromatic harmonies and great expression.

The Petite Suite, published in 1885, is Borodin's major work for the Piano and originally comprised of seven movements. Mr. Sauer's arrangement incorporates three of them: Intermezzo, Reverie and Serenade. The Petite Suite was dedicated to the Belgian Countess Louise de Mercy-Argenteau, who was a supporter of Borodin and his music. After Borodin's death in 1887, Glazunov orchestrated the Suite.

The music has that Eastern flavor so indicative of Borodin's melodies, mysterious, lyrical and subtle. Advanced performers will enjoy this work which has been so beautifully arranged by Mr. Sauer.
