The composition of Verba Ecclesiastes begun in 2002 as a result of a comission from my friend Gary Graden. For many years I've found those words from the Old Testament very fascinating - as everyone knows, I'm not alone. Vanity of vanities! All is vanity! Writers, painters and filmmakers have for centuries been dealing with the subject and I found it high time to set the famous words to music. The suite, for soloists, choir and violoncello, consists of six movements, each one enlighting a different view of life and afterlife, and also, as Matthew Arnold puts it of human misery. Yet the suite is full of hope and humanity, specially recognizable in the two central parts, Dulce lumen and Omnia tempus habent. The music was completed in 2009. (Michael Waldenby).

This original spiritual for male voices is infused with energy! Opening with a layered speech chorus, it moves into a southern gospel feel with a dynamic call-and-response that leads back into the speech chorus, this time with hand clapping. Excellent for male honor choirs and festival performances.

This set of three motets for unaccompanied male choir sets the Latin words for the De Profundis, Ave Maria and Laudate and manifests Lewkovitch's fascination both with chant and with modality.Contemporary Danish composer, conductor and Organist Bernhard Lewkovitch has followed a rare path among modern composers. From 1947 he was Organist at St Ansgars Kirches and later remained connected with the Catholic Church by working as an Organist. Clearly he is inspired by the Catholic liturgy and sees his great output of ecclesiastical music as a vocation and a great responsibility. For many years his work by inspired by Gregorian chant and was composed in church modes, then inthe mid 1950's he began to expand into modern bitonality and polytonality, culminating in Il cantico delle creature in 1962/3 in which there was no conventional notation and no fixed pitch. After that, Lewkovitch had somewhat of a hiatus, later returning again to the inspirations of the mid1950's.

This dynamic piece features a tenor-bass choir, a percussion ensemble with five players, and piano. The evocative text, penned by Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, is drawn from his collection of poems titled â??Fruit Gatherings,â? published in 1916. It paints vivid imagery of darkness, light, and triumph over death. Serving as an exceptional contemporary piece for your tenor-bass choirs, this composition offers both excitement and challenge, with its expertly crafted symphony of percussive sounds.

Paparuda is based on a Romanian folk poem, a pagan rain dance song. During a period of heat and drought the rain goddess is implored to finally let it rain, to refresh people and to water the earth, so that it can bring forth fruit and flowers abundantly. The composer George Balint (b. 1961) has set this ritual to music for mixed choir, in an impressive piece with thrilling rhythm. As well as the Romanian text, a singable German and English version is included.
