The Odyssee tells the story of Odysseus, the undaunted hero. In times long ago the blind poet Homer wrote this famous epic. The Odyssey follows the Iliad, the story of the bloody war between the Greek and the Trojans. This battle endsafter ten years thanks to the Odysseys famous trick. the Trojan Horse. The Odyssey is not a war epic, but a story about perseverance, loyalty, adventure, and the survival instinct of its ingenious hero. In The Odyssey, Homer describes howOdysseus, the king of Ithaca, had to endure another ten years of affliction after the ten years of war in Troy before he could finally return to his home land. During those years, his wife, Penelope, had to try and keep her many admirers away.These men not only wanted het hand but also the kingship. To prove her husbands worth, she played a trick: As soon as I have finished weaving this shroud for my father-in-law, Laertes, I will choose one of you to become my husband, she promisedthem. But during the night, she secretly loosened what she had woven during the day, prolonging the time until Odysseus would finally return. After twenty long years, when he finally stood at the door, she wondered: Is this really my husband? Ishe an imposter? Cunningly, she asked him to move the bed, because only she and her husband know that the bed was immovable and was build around an old three trunk! Odysseus was deeply moved: this really was his wife, his Penelope! Nearly threethousands years later, the loyalty and strength of this character, and all the dangerous adventures that Odysseus survived thanks to courage and intelligence, still moves us today. Odyssee by Jan Bosveld is not just an adventure story, butrather a characteristic piece in which memories of Homers story can be heard. The composition opens with a firm, stirring theme describing our hero, Odysseus, in detail: This man is not to be taken lightly. The further development of thisshort introduction completes this character sketch: trustworthy, perseverant, and a genius. After that we can picture Odysseus on the lonely beach of Ogygia. Do the trumpets depict his memories of the war of Troy? Does he think of his wife, as werecognise the weaving loom of Penelope in the murmuring eighth? In the solemn, plaintive part that follows, we can imagine Penelope feeling lonely, sitting in the womens room with her servants.One of the girls plays the harp, but that does notclear the sombre atmosphere. Then we can imagine seeing the sorceress Circe, who changed Odysseus men into swine. After she gives a simple magic sign something follows that reminds us of the sound of pigs grunting. Then the Odysseus theme resounds:the hero comes to savi his comrades. Assisted by Hermes, he forces Circe to lift the spell. The piece ends the same way as it began, with an animated theme: Odysseus is still the same, undefeated and not to be taken lighty!Het muzikale relaas van de Griekse schrijver Homerus over de held Odyssee in een karakterstuk vol herinneringen. Een stevig opgewekt thema symboliseert de grootsheid van Odyssee en zijn karaktertrekken - betrouwbaar, volhardend en vernuftig. Detegenslagen welke hij tegenkomt en in het tweede tragische gedeelte dreigen te escaleren, nemen in het derde snelle gedeelte bij zijn verschijning toch weer een positieve wending. Een lange, lyrische melodie in de tenorgroep laat vervolgens het publiek even achteroverleunen en genieten. Ze wordt echter bruusk onderbroken door een wilde fortissimopassage, gekenmerkt door een lange toonladderdie door het hele orkest heen loopt. Deze mondt uit in een welluidend Grandioso met een herhaling van de lyrische melodie, omspeeld in de discant, waarmee Liberty besluit.Liberty ist ein kontrastreicher Konzertmarsch in traditioneller Form. Der erste Teil enthält neben einem lebhaften Thema ein anspruchsvolles Bassolo. Das ausgedehnte lyrische Trio enthält fast komplett neues thematisches Material und bildet so einen interessanten Gegensatz zum ersten Teil. Ein weiterer Kontrast entsteht durch eine abrupt einsetzende, wilde Fortissimo-Passage, die durch das ganze Orchester gereicht wird, bevor ein reizvolles Grandioso den Marsch beendet.Liberty est une marche contrastante de forme traditionnelle. This hymn was commissioned by “Antwerpen 93â€. And this city, on the banks of the river Schelde has been nominated “Cultural Capital of Europe†for 1993. The work-group “animatie†took the initiative and commissioned a hymn, which -as the finale to a grand open-air event on 27th March- was premièred by hundreds of musicians from all over Europe. Philippe Langlet (France) was the conductor at this majestic occasion.Musically speaking the piece can no doubt be labeled easy. Indeed it is meant to represent a hymn, playable by all in different instrumental combinations. Consequently a variable instrumentation was chosen and a type of music, which by native is easily accessible anduncomplicated.The conductor is free -in the instrumentation- to score this piece according to his own taste. It is perhaps advisable to use the sharp brass in the forte parts, in order to make the range in the sound of the orchestra as colouful as possible. The percussion parts are not absolutely essential, so that the hymn can also be performed without percussion.

Reusachtige ijskappen en met sneeuw bedekte bergketens, torenhoge door wind en water gemodelleerde ijsbergen, pingu?ns, walvissen en duizenden zeevogels. Dit zijn de ongeëvenaarde landschapsbeelden die Antarctica tot het laatste ongereptenatuurgebied van onze aarde maakt. Ongeveer 160 miljoen jaar geleden kwam het arctische continent los van het oer-continent Gondwana en belandde op de tegenwoordige positie op de zuidpool. Uit de vele fossielen blijktdat daar een subtropisch klimaat heerste. Ongeveer 25 miljoen jaar geleden werd Antarctica met ijs overdekt en daarmee ontstond de grootste ijswoestijn op aarde. In 1838 werd vanuit de Verenigde Staten een ontdekkingstochtop touw gezet om nieuwe gebieden te vinden voor de walvis- en robbenjacht. Zo werd de antarctische ijswoestijn ontdekt. Vanaf het begin van de twintigste eeuw zijn het vooral wetenschappelijke expedities geweest die deze ongerepteijswoestijn aandeden. Onder de meest bizarre omstandigheden werden er onderzoekstations gebouwd en belangwekkend wetenschappelijk werk verricht. Sinds kort wordt Antarctica zelfs door toeristen bezocht. Meerdaagse bootreizendoor dit fascinerende landschap laten onvergetelijke indrukken achter. Langzamerhand wordt ook dit laatste natuurreservaat op de wereld ontsloten. De compositie “De IJswoestijn” van Jan Bosveld beschrijft de antarctischewereld en de invloed die de mens hierop uitoefent. In deel 1 horen we de ontdekking van de ijswoestijn. Een schip laveert tussen de ijsschotsen en de bemanning kijkt hoog op naar de reusachtige ijskappen. De temperatuuris 50 graden onder Celsius en in het heldere licht ziet men ijskristallen oplichten. Deel 2 beschrijft de walvisjacht rond 1900. Vanuit kleine wendbare bootjes worden harpoenen op walvissen gegooid. Totdat hij is uitgeput sleept.

Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by royal governor 'Lord Dunmore at an unusual location: Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. The name of the fort: Fort Fincastle' comes from Dunmore's second title of Viscount Fincastle '( Earl of Fincastle). He gave the fort a particular shape, a circular building with a sharp expansion in the form of a bow or bow of ship. In order to deceive enemy ships. Hij gaf het fort een bijzonder vorm, een cirkelvormig gebouw met een puntige uitbouw, in de vorm van een boeg of voorsteven van schip. Dit om vijandige schepen te misleiden. De klanken van de eerstematen laten de contouren van een majestueus verdedigingsbolwerk opdoemen, waarna een heldhaftig thema volgt. Al snel horen we de dreiging van vijandige elementen . Werken op het fort betekent veel wachten en is best eenzaam,toch moet je altijd alert en waakzaam zijn voor de immer op de loer liggende aanval. Na het afslaan van de zoveelste aanval heerst er een gevoel van tevredenheid en zien we het fort trots liggen op de heuvel die bovenNassau uit torent.
