Uns ist ein Kind geboren is one of Telemann's most beautiful Christmas cantatas, which features an opening duet for two sopranos based on Polish-Moravian folklore, as well as two substantial choral movements. The two horns allotted to the second choral movement to the text Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe can be replaced by two flutes. This is supported by a source from the Telemann tradition in Frankfurt, in which these parts are present. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3911500.

Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane is one of his most popular compositions. What is less known, however, is that the premiere of this stylized dance in April 1888 was actually performed in this present version for mixed choir rather than in the now more familiar orchestral version or instrumental arrangeÂments. The text, in the style of Verlaine, sketches the carefree society of the Belle Époque, in particular the various flirtations and dalliances of the dancers. Based on Fauré’s autograph score, this new Carus edition reflects the original (faster) tempo marking. In addition to the composer’s revised piano reduction, Carus is also publishing a modern version for choir and four hands (Carus 10.402/10). Score and part available separately - see item CA.1040200.

Beethoven described his Missa solemnis as his greatest work several times, a work which, coming from the heart, was to touch and move audiences. The surviving sources enable us to recognize how intensively and how long he worked on the composition in order to give what he felt was adequate expression to the text. In its length and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond typical liturgical settings, and the premiere took place, for good reason, in a concert hall. The chorus plays a key structural role in the work, and in the process has to master some extremely demanding sections. The leading Beethoven expert Ernst Herttrich has produced an Urtext edition based on the available sources, and reflecting the latest state of scholarship. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4068900.

Ton Koopman's new edition of all 16 organ concertos by Handel has drawn to a close. The quality of this edition has been highly praised from all quarters. Source-critical responsibility goes hand in hand with a high level of performance practice when Koopman provides interpretative tips for the ad libitum passages in the organ part without restricting the creativity of the interpreter who is interested in stylistic matters and prefers to work out his own solutions. I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote. Nevertheless, there are occasional performance suggestions in small print which are elucidated in the Critical Commentary. (Ton Koopman in Concerto) Koopman offers a basically unmarked text, thus leaving the performance details up to the performer. Especially note-worthy is the clear printing, extensive preface and detailed Critical Notes. (Katholische Kirchenmusik) Whoever wishes to hear the entire Koopman edition on CD can look forward to the new recording by Christian Schmitt and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (Brilliant Classics). This is the first recording for which all 16 new Koopman editions were used as the basis for the performance.,I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote.' Robert Schumann placed great importance on the genre of the overture, as can be seen in the chronology of the genesis of his sole opera Genoveva. In his Haushaltbuch the composer entered as his first idea thoughts of an overture, then produced the score even before having begun working on the actual opera. Schumann was right on the mark when he suspected that the overture alone should enjoy a favorable reception. The Overture appeared in print at about the same time that the opera was premiered. It established itself in the concert hall as an autonomous work and ranks today - along with the Manfred Overture - among Schumann's most beloved concert overtures. The Genoveva Overture is being released in a text-critical Breitkopf Urtext edition for the first time. The main source is the first printing revised by Schumann. The Urtext debut of Schumann's beloved overture.

This Negro Spiritual was made popular by the Golden Gate Quartet in the 1930s. Willie T. Johnson, the lead singer of the group, is the father of Kevin P. Johnson the arranger of this version. The composer, like his father, uses rhythm in exciting new ways to deliver Negro Spirituals to contemporary audiences. The text of this spiritual has been interpreted in many different ways over the years. Here's a popular interpretation of the text. One for the little bitty baby born, born, born in Bethlehem: This refers to the infant Jesus. Two for Paul and Silas: This verse honors Paul and Silas who went on many missionary journeys to spread the teachings of Christ. Three for the Hebrew children: The three Hebrew children could be Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Four for the four that stood at the door: Many people interpret the four to be the four writers of the Gospel books - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, though this does not explain the part about standing at the door. Five for the gospel preachers: The five are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Peter. Paul is already mentioned above, in line two. Six for the six that never got fixed: Could this mean the sinners who never change their ways? Seven for the seven that went up to heaven: The seven in heaven could be the seven stars in Ursa Major or the sevenfold spirit of God or the seven early Christian churches or the seven stars in the right hand of Christ mentioned in the Revelation. Eight for the eight that stood at the gate: This could refer to the eight people who entered Noah's ark (Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives). Nine for the nine that dressed so fine: This could refer to the nine orders of Angels in heaven. Ten for the ten commandments: This refers to the ten commandments given to Moses. Performance notes: Swing the 8th notes Djembe drums should be played freely with flexible precision The rap can be optional The ending solo can be sung down an octave and can be changed to match the ability of the soloist. Do not clap louder than you sing If doing choral movement on the piece, pay attention to detail synchronizing movements as much as possible. While the rap is words in rhythm, if adding one is not possible for your performance, consider a spoken word of your own choosing Have fun!.This Negro Spiritual was made popular by the Golden Gate Quartet in the 1930s. Invictus Rex is the Latin phrase for an invincible or undefeatable king. It calls to mind a paragon of strength, boldness, and confidence in the face of challenges and adversity. Audiences will imagine a medieval king attired in heavy armor confidently leading his men into battle, assured in the idea that, though the battle is to be long and arduous, they will ultimately reign victorious. New composer Matthew Putnam draws on his experience as a music educator to provide us with this piece that students will absolutely love to play.
