Bob has created an absolutely thrilling 12 minute work, inspired by his Celtic roots (Towednack is a small area in Cornwall, England). The Celtic influence is heard in the triple-meter settings and the interlude which reflects back on a Riverdance style of music. Tenor sax is featured. Very much in the genre of his Metheny/Mays charts of the past. Commissioned by Riverside Community College (CA) Performed at the August, 1999 Kenton Sounds concert in Los Angeles. No w.w. doubles. The CD on which this piece is recorded is Towednack, Bob Curnow and the SWR Big Band (available from Sierra Music). 5-4-4-4 (opt. vibes and aux. perc.).

As recorded by Count Basie on the Roulette LP (Vogue CD) The Legend, Benny Carter has created a marvelous, quiet, smoky sounding tune ... somewhat in the vain of Whisper Not. This is a wonderful piece, so classic in its proportions, melody, harmony and its slow, swinging feel. There is solo space for trumpet, tenor sax and a bit of piano. Classic Basie! 5-4-3-4 (w/opt. 4th Trb.).

Omar Thomas has written a stunning, contemporary piece reminiscent of the style of the Pat Metheny Group. It has a straight-eighths feel with solos for piano and trombone. This chart requires soprano saxophone and clarinet (with optional bass clarinet). There are meter changes throughout. This piece moves jazz ensemble composition forward. 5-4-4-4 (w/ opt. voice part).

This is one of the many wonderful charts arranged by Lennie for the Stan Kenton Orchestra. He was able to capture the Kenton sound without a lot of high-range problems or difficult concerns for the players. Solo space for baritone sax and trumpet. A great addition to any jazz and/or dance library. This chart swings like crazy!.5-4-4-3 (w parts for 10 brass).
