An ABRSM syllabus title, 2014-2021 - Grade 8.The composer of the Baroque era and perhaps of the whole history of music who knew most about the recorder was Georg Philipp Telemann. His sonatas recorder belong to the basic repertory of each professional and pretentious amateur player of the instrument. The complete edition of his sonatas is still missing and the quality of the available editions of the various pieces is definitely uneven. It is thus a pioneering work to publish Telemann's complete sonata output in the EMB Urtext series. This publication is printed on high-quality, age-resistant, pale-yellow paper that is produced in an environmentally-friendly, climate-neutralmanner using renewable raw materials.

In publishing the recorder volumes of the Répertoire series the editor seeks to provide music students with a collection of pieces from different eras written for, transcribed for or easy to play on recorders. The volumes 'a' (Z 14132 and Z. 14168) contain solos and duets, the volumes 'b' (Z. 14216 and Z. 14217) contain solos with accompaniment, as well as works for trio sonata scoring.

This volume contains, in addition to well-known movements and pieces, ample material passing for novelty even for those initiated starting from the Renaissance dances to present-day Hungarian folksong arrangements. It is worth trying to play from it after one year of treble recorder studies already. Besides beginners intermediary students can also perform some of the pieces. For them the original Baroque sonata movements may prove interesting.
