The basic differences with respect to other editions chiefly concern the articulation and dynamics in movements 1, 2 and 4. Concert band (Piccolo, 1st Flute, 2nd Flute, Oboe 1/2, Bassoon 1/2, Eb Clarinet, 1st Bb Clarinet, 2nd Bb Clarinet, 3rd Bb Clarinet, Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet, Eb Alto Saxophone 1/2, Bb Tenor Saxophone, Eb Baritone Saxophone, 1st Bb Cornet, 2nd/3rd Bb Cornet, 1) - grade 5 SKU: CN.S11158 Composed by Gordon Jacob. Band Music. Score only. Duration 15:30. Published by G & M Brand Music Publishers (CN.S11158). A powerful work. An opening fanfare leads directly to an Allegro risoluto, which exudes determination and forthrightness. The second movement follows without a break and is a continuous plaint in which the melody seems forever seeking resolution like a troubled soul searching for respite. Only in the closing bars does peace seem to take over. The final movement, marked Allegro non troppo, starts with a cheering fanfare that leads to a bright and breezy romp, with a rustic feel about it. When the fanfare reappears we are suddenly immersed in exaltations of joy that really give a feeling of optimism as we proceed to the end of the piece via a short Coda.
With this Symphony, Gordon Jacob proclaims his absolute mastery of idiom and instrumentation with a triumphant rejoicing. Written in 1978 as a commission from Arthur Doyle (hence the AD in the title, a typical piece of Jacob wit), it lay virtually unplayed save for the efforts of his Estate, Troy Peterson and Geoffrey Brand and CBDNA (College Band Directors Association, USA), who between them ensured that it was professionally recorded in 1994 and published in 1995. There is little point in indulging in semantics as to whether the piece is a Symphony. It is Jacob's approach to his tuneful, folk-based material which is symphonic: weighty in exposition and development, sonorous and expressive in the slow movement, with a scherzo-like last movement and a giocoso coda. After a brilliant opening fanfare, the quick triple-meter first theme (Allegro Risoluto) is introduced on clarinets, punctuated with brass. It is soon followed by a contrasting melody for saxophone. In all this material the interval of a 4th is prominent, and throughout the work the 4th and 7th are important. Perhaps it is the frequent use of the 7th which gives a feeling of restlessness without resolution which pervades this movement as the themes are dissected and developed. The second movement follows directly after a horn bridge. Still the melody outlines the 7th and the ear is not satisfied until the full band (with organ), comes to rest in Bb major. This point of repose and the magic pianissimo which follows shortly after when the slow theme is re-stated, are the apex of the Symphony's construction. Soon, however, we are transported, via a fanfare, into a helter-skelter 9/8 romp: rustic, English, and almost vulgar, this theme is thrown around the group before exploding into a boisterous 2/4 coda. $30.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
| Ross Roy Concert band [Score and Parts] - Intermediate De Haske Publications

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-0971085-010 Composed by Jacob De Haan. Inspiration Series. Festive and Solemn Music. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 1997. De Haske Publications #DHP 0971085-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-0971085-010). Jacob de Haan was commissioned to compose this concert piece by the St. Peters Wind Symphony from Brisbane, Australia. Ross Roy is the monumental late 19th century villa where St. Peters Lutheran College was founded in 1945. The villa has always remained the school symbol. In this composition, Jacob de Haan sees the Ross Roy as a metaphor for the years spent at school (a monument in time), where one's personality is formed. So, the opening theme the artist calls the Ross Roy theme initially has monumental characteristics. The rhythmic motion, which strides along in the lower register and percussion at the beginning of the next section is typical of Tempo di Marcia. Thismovement, accompanied by repetitions of sound, is a metaphor for the structure and discipline in school. This is the introduction to a march theme, symbolic of passing through the classes up to the final examinations. Then, the Ross Roy theme is dealt with again, now in a playful, humorous variation. As if the composer is saying there should also be time for a smile in school. The same theme can be heard in major key and a slower tempo in the following section, expressing pride and self-confidence. This is also the introduction to the expressive middle section that represents love, friendship and understanding. We then return to the march theme in a slightly altered construction. The oriental sounds, constituting the modulation to the final theme, are symbols of the diversity of cultures in the school. The characteristic final theme first sounds solemn, but turns into a festive apotheosis. It is no coincidence that the final cadence is reminiscent of the close to a traditional overture, for the school years can be considered the overture to the rest of one's life. The premiere of Ross Roy was conducted by Jacob de Haan in Brisbane, on August 22, 1997.
$191.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Viola (2.2.2.2 - 2.2.0.0 - timp - str) SKU: BR.OB-14610-19 Urtext based on the new Complete Edition (G. Henle Verlag). Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Edited by Armin Raab. Stapled. Orchester-Bibliothek (Orchestral Library). The study score (,,Studien-Edition) is available at G. Henle Verlag. Symphony; Classical. Part. 16 pages. Duration 35'. Breitkopf and Haertel #OB 14610-19. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.OB-14610-19). ISBN 9790004336533. 10 x 12.5 inches. Beethoven did not work continuously on this symphony and interrupted his work a couple of times. As the sketches show, he presumably wrote down first ideas in the autumn of 1800.No other autograph material has survived. As Ferdinand Ries, a pupil of Beethoven, bitterly reports, Beethoven gave him the autograph, but it was unfortunately stolen by a friend, out of pure friendship. In April 1803, the composition was premiered publicly, together with the first symphony and the third piano concerto with Beethoven himself as soloist. Although Beethoven's first two symphonies are still influenced by Haydn and Mozart, novelties can already be discovered. The second symphony starts breaking away from traditional forms and lets us surmise the monumentality of Beethoven's innovation. The editor, Armin Raab, critically illuminates the transmission of the work and its sources. He also clears up a wide spread belief in older literature, that this cheerful work might have been composed parallel to the Heiligenstadter Testament. The practical performance material by Breitkopf & Hartel is based on the music text of the New Beethoven Complete Edition and constitutes the authoritative reading of Beethoven research. $10.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Band Music. Score and parts. Duration 10:00. Published by G & M Brand Music Publishers (CN.R10011). Cast your self into a storm at sea with this fantastic piece from John Ireland. Turbulent rhythmic motives launch the work to blend into a more lyrical melody contrasting the opening. Don't be fooled though; the first rhythmic motive provides the underlay, a reminder that the calm surface of the sea is only masking the swirling water underneath!
A Maritime Overture was written in 1944 and published in 1946. This edition was published in 1988. The score was prepared from the composer's full draft by Norman Richardson, and uses the same material as Tritons - a Symphonic Prelude for orchestra dating from the early 1900s. The development of the material however is different in each piece. The work is conceived in F major - but it is 24 bars before Ireland establishes this tonality. Fortissimo chords of B-flat major open the work, and the Overture hovers between G minor and B-flat as a restless rhythmic motif is introduced. As soon as F major is finally established it is contradicted as the music fragments, but the key is allowed a further 4 bars to consolidate before more lyrical interplay leads to a second idea, introduced by flutes and oboes in C major. Marked 'espressivo e ben cantando' this is a complete contrast to the opening, although the first rhythmic motif provides the underlay - a reminder after the opening storms that the calm surface of the sea is only masking the swirling water underneath. A Maritime Overture has a freer approach to form than say the first movement of a symphony might allow, enabling Ireland to introduce a totally new central section marked 'poco meno mosso' in F minor. A bold cornet (not trumpet) heralds this new idea, in a passage marked 'with freedom' and perhaps for the only time there is a true tranquility in the sextuplet accompaniment. Thus the restlessness is suspended, but not for long, as the opening storm returns and a recapitulation allows the F major theme and the second theme - this time in the sub-dominant (B-flat) - to reassert themselves. $115.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Double Bass (Double Bass Part) SKU: BA.BA10982-85 Composed by Franz Joseph Haydn. Edited by Sonja Gerlach and Sterling E. Murray. This edition: urtext edition. Stapled. Urtext from: Joseph Haydn Werke, G. Henle Verlag Munchen. Single part. Hob. I:80. 9 pages. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA10982_85. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA10982-85). ISBN 9790006565559. 32.5 x 25.5 cm inches. Key: D minor. Johann Joseph Rosler (1771-1812) was a composer, conductor and pianist who was active in Prague and Vienna. Later he was in the service of Prince Franz Joseph von Lobkowitz. His Piano Concerto No. 2 in E-flat major of 1803 is a fitting companion to the piano concertos of Beethoven; indeed, his first Piano Concerto in D major was mistakenly attributed to Beethoven until 1925. Now Rosler's second Piano Concerto is appearing in print for the first time. This is due to editor Alena Honigova discovering and identifying an autograph score which is the only preserved source in the Prague Conservatory archive. In this Urtext edition Honigova takes into account the distinctive features of Rosler's handwriting and the division of parts in the score, as befits the performance practice of his day.

| Symphony in D Major Hob.1:96 (London Symphony) Orchestra [Study Score / Miniature] G. Henle
Orchestra (Study Score) SKU: HL.51489064 Study Score. Composed by ...(+)
Orchestra (Study Score) SKU: HL.51489064 Study Score. Composed by Franz Joseph Haydn. Edited by Gernot Gruber. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. G. Henle #HN9064. Published by G. Henle (HL.51489064). UPC: 840126937640. 6.75x9.5x0.214 inches. The twelve “London Symphonies†comprise the sublime final statement of Haydn's symphonic oeuvre. They were written for the London impresario Johann Peter Salomon, and Haydn himself conducted their premieres during his lengthy stays in the English metropolis in 1791/92 and 1794/95. Hailing from 1791, the Symphony in D major no. 96 numbers among the first symphonies written in and for London. The epithet given to it by posterity, “The Miracleâ€, was bestowed erroneously, for the miracle - that no one was injured when a chandelier fell during a concert - took place during a performance of a different Haydn symphony. And yet it is a miracle of musical esprit nonetheless; from the subtle relations between the motives consisting of broken triads that open all four movements, to the virtuosic shifts in mood owing to surprising harmonies, Haydn here submits a prime example of how he develops musical ideas. This study edition adopts the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition, thereby guaranteeing the highest scholarly quality. An informative preface and a brief Critical Report make the handy score an ideal companion for all current and soon-to-be Haydn fans. It is a tour de force composition for advanced bands and hearkens back to a bygone era during the golden age of the band movement. Directors and students will hear operatic music from composer Victor Herbert who is best known for his Christmas classic, Toyland. This is a richly scored masterpiece that deserves to return to standard status in concert band repertoire. We are proud to bring you this new setting of this cherished classic. Festival March by Victor Herbert was written for the Pittsburgh Symphony and first performed under Herbert’s direction in Chicago on Dec. 9, 1901 celebrating the 12th anniversary of Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre. Also known as the Auditorium Festival March, he included it many times for programs of a festival nature. The main theme Auld Lang Syne, a famous Scottish folk song, is incorporated many times along with brass fanfares, interludes and march melodies. This band arrangement is very similar to the original orchestral composition. The missing string parts, the addition of the saxophone section and other band instruments, editing of the superimposed triplets against sixteenth notes, to one or the other, and articulations suitable for the band, were major challenges. The style of early twentieth-century American music is captured here. This arrangement will give band musicians access to a fine piece of music that could only be appreciated by orchestra musicians up to now. Although suitable for many occasions, this piece is a great way to begin or end a December holiday concert.  Notes to the ConductorVictor Herbert’s music can be interpreted in a romantic style, which is the conductor’s responsibility to read in nuance and musicality. The beginning and other triple-tonguing sections of this piece have a March of the Toys quality to it.  The interludes and Auld Lang Syne sections are legato and musical. The March sections can also be shaped musically.About the ComposerVictor Herbert was born in Ireland in 1861 and raised in Germany. When he moved to America in 1886, he joined the Metropolitan Opera as principal cellist and eventually composed many works including forty-three operettas on Broadway from the 1890s to World War I, including Naughty Marietta and Babes in Toyland. Victor Herbert conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony from 1898 to 1904 and then was the conductor of his own Victor Herbert Orchestra. He formed ASCAP with a group of composers in 1914 and was the director until his death in 1924. Among his thirty-one compositions for orchestra, Festival March was a favorite of his and was eventually published by Carl Fischer Music.  . $150.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock
