Elgar's delightful Salut d'Amour, one of his earliest successes, dates from 1889, when Elgar had just turned 30: this proved to be a year of great happiness for him, for at that time he married Caroline Alice Roberts - a lady who was to mean so much to him as man and musician. It is not too fanciful to hear, in this charming piece, a musical manifestation of his love for her.This arrangement for piano retains al the beauty of the original.

Salutation was commissioned by Japanese conductor and broadcaster, Yutaka Nishida, a dear friend of the composer Philip Sparke. Salutation follows fairly conventional march form. A short fanfare introduces the main theme, played by clarinets and saxophones. A bridge passage, mainly in the brass, heralds a change of key and a legato second subject, again played initially by the clarinets, which leads to the conventional trio theme, which is then repeated by the full band. Sections of the second subject lead back to the home key and a return of the main theme, embellished with woodwinds.

Salutation is geschreven in opdracht van de Japanse dirigent en radiopresentator Yutaka Nishida, een goede vriend van Philip Sparke. Het werk volgt een vrij conventionele marsvorm: een korte fanfare introduceert het hoofdthema, gespeeld door de klarinetten en saxofoons. Een bridgepassage, voornamelijk door het koper gespeeld, kondigt een modulatie en een legato gedeelte aan, aanvankelijk door de klarinetten gebracht en uitmondend in het conventionele triothema, dat daarna door het hele orkest wordt herhaald. Teile des zweiten Themas führen in die Ausgangstonart zurück und das Hauptthema, dasvon den Holzbläsern verziert wird, kehrt wieder.

L’œuvre suit la forme assez conventionnelle de la marche : une courte fanfare introduit le thème principal, joué par les clarinettes et les saxophones. Un bref pont, principalement interprété par les cuivres, annonce un changement de tonalité et un second thème legato, joué encore une fois premièrement par les clarinettes, conduit au thème traditionnel du trio, qui est ensuite repris par l'orchestre complet. Just based on its title, this piece has to be celebratory and up-beat, which it is! It opens with a stately fanfare, first played on the low brass before the entire band joins in. This gives way to a contrasting lyrical theme which develops until it joins up with the fanfare to complete the opening section. A lively and heavily syncopated vivo follows, cast as a traditional march, complete with a 'bass strain' and trio. After the original march theme returns, a climax leads back to a reprise of the majestic opening, which brings the piece to an appropriately triumphant close.

Ein Stück namens Centennial Salute (Salut zur Jahrhundertfeier) ist schon per Definition festlich: Es beginnt mit einer prachtigen Fanfare im tiefen Blech, die dann vom gesamten Blasorchester aufgenommen wird. Fa da contrasto un tema lirico che, assieme alla fanfara, chiude la prima parte del brano. Segue un brillante vivo nello stile tradizionale della marcia. Dopo il ritorno del tema della marcia, e riproposto il tema di apertura, che accompagna il brano al suo finale.
