Billy Byers, known for his wildly successful arrangements for the Count Basie Orchestra, provided them with some of their best music ever performed and recorded. Originally recorded on the album Frankly Basie, 'South of the Border' has it all - Basie piano solos (written out), roaring ensemble passages, a swinging saxophone soli, and some compelling key changes. There is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet, and piano. If you want your band and audiences to experience to joy of Basie, then this chart is a must! 5-4-4-4.

Osvaldo Nicolás Ferraro Gutiérrez (1934-1977), better known as Waldo de los RÃos, was an Argentine composer best remembered for his knack for making pop music out of European classical music. His South American Suite (Suite SudAmericana) is in four movements: 1. Paraguay (Nanduty; Jungle Night; Epic), 2. Argentina (Los Colorados; The Shadow of the Tiger; The Tryst), 3. Peru (Cuzco Ruins; Lima; The Giants), and 4. Uruguay (The Wagon; Gaucho Song; Carnival).

Rhythmically exciting and fun, this exhilarating holiday selection by Linda Spevacek reflects the music of the Andes and Pampas regions of South America. Even though it is written in a minor key--like much of the music from these regions--this piece is happy, joyful, and sure to add that festive Latin American spirit to your holiday concert.

Gregory Singer brings us a descriptive work inspired by the story of a father and son who fought on different sides in the America Civil War. The composition begins with a tender melancholic ballad that leads to a cheerful fiddle tune. The piece is brought to a dynamic conclusion when the themes are stated in counterpoint. This composition was inspired by a story of a father and son that fought in the American Civil War . My original version for full symphony orchestra had lyrics that tells the story of a father fighting for the North and his son fighting for the South . In the story, the father and son both die in the same battle fighting for the opposite sides . The mother and daughter are waiting for their return and have prepared food for them . Alas, they will never return .It is a melancholy, sentimental melody with a cheerful up-tempo section representing the mother's and daughter’s memories of the happy times together .
