The noted Hungarian choirmaster and composer, born in 1930, set four verses of the Lord's Day sequence of St Thomas Aquinas in this short devout work, which draws on the melody of the original Gregorian sequence. Written in 2011 for the 21st International Chamber Choir Competition in Pécs, the work makes rewarding and attractive material for both professional and amateur choirs to sing. Lauda Sion has also appeared in versions for mixed and for women's choir.

Telemann's Missa brevis on the Christmas hymn Ein Kindelein so lobelich is one of eleven surviving Latin Missae breves based on church hymns. The motetlike composition calls for a mixed choir accompanied by a basso continuo, reinforced by colla-parte instruments. However, the mass can also be performed solely with an organ accompaniment. Gottlob Harrer, the successor to Johann Sebastian Bach as Thomaskantor, performed the mass in Leipzig at Christmas in 1750 and 1751 with an instrumental accompaniment and for this purpose he added two horns. They are included in the present edition as ad libitum parts. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3909700.

A pleasing setting of this grand old German chorale that provides ample material for the choir and an opportunity for congregational participation. The delightful flute part adds to the overall effect of the piece. The tune is WAS FRAG ICH NACH DER WELT.

This harmonically bold work was first published in 1775 and received numerous performances during the composer's lifetime in German-speaking countries. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3323800.

With a relaxed lilt, a 4-note motive makes up the first portion of the verses by cantor or unison voices. Verse 3 offers an altered echo for two soloists, with the same material repeated for the choir on the last verse. Additional instrumentation was originally conceived for soprano recorder or pennywhistle, but works well with flute, oboe, or other C instrument. The text of comfort is particularly suited to the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A.
