Many congregations hold Good Friday as a sacred day of gathering in prayer, focusing on the cross in anticipation of the Resurrection. Chris de Silva’s “Faithful Cross†is a setting of a lengthy, ancient hymn (“Crux fidelisâ€) that celebrates the cross with rich symbolism and poetry. Two refrains are included for the assembly, and a simple chant for The Showing of the Holy Cross (“Behold the wood of the Cross...â€) is also provided. “Faithful Cross†does not have to be restricted to use only on Good Friday, it can be part of the Palm Sunday liturgy and for feast days such as the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (September 14).
