Herbei, O Ihr Gläub'gen (Adeste fideles, or O Come, All Ye Faithful) has been arranged for saxophone quartet (AATBar) by Eberhard Michaely. After a rubato introduction, the groove in 5/4 time immediately sets in and runs through the remainder of the piece. The unusual time signature creates a flowing melody. The first alto part features a funky solo, which can be played ad lib or as written.

For Ravel, the year 1917 was marked by his mother's death and the death of many of his friends who lost their lives in World War I. Hence, the suite he finished that same year can be considered as an elegy. Due to its classical, sonatina-like character, this piece does not radiate an atmosphere of mourning, but rather a light, cool serenity. Something quite a bit different from the usual Christmas program fare, Bartok's collection of Romanian Christmas Carols springs from his lifelong fascination with folk music of the region. Bartok arranged several of these folk songs for the Christmas season into his original piano solos (UE005890), and van Zoelen has faithfully transcribed this into saxophone quartet.
