The impressive Marian Anderson String Quartet has established a Continuing the Legacy commissioning project, to honor the 75th anniversary of their namesake's performance at the Lincoln Memorial, as well as their own 25th anniversary. Hailstork is one of a handful of American composers invited to create a 21st century string quartet based upon songs of the African Diaspora. His choice of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot has led to an evocative, but moving string quartet. Also available for string orchestra, on a rental basis. For advanced performers. Duration: 15'.

This Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the first and most straightforward of four litanies which Mozart composed from 1771 to 1776 in Salzburg. Its light instrumental scoring - only the church trio of two violins and continuo, with trombones used merely to reinforce the choir - suggest that this piece was intended for Marian devotions in the small Court Chapel of Schloss Mirabell. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4005400.

The unbroken popularity of Vanhal's sole double bass concerto in competitions and for practice and concert purposes is reason enough for us to publish the work in Breitkopf Urtext. The edition profits from Tobias Glockler's experience of many years. As with the other great double-bass concertos of the classical Viennese repertoire (Dittersdorf, Hoffmeister), Glockler arrives at convincing solutions. He began by filtering out a solid musical text from the source (which was not always free of contradictions) that was supplied with many additions. The disposition of the solo part required detailed knowledge of performance practice, since the work was written in the historical Viennese double bass tuning, and a few passages cannot be played without difficulty on a modern instrument. As with Dittersdorf and Hoffmeister, the piano reduction makes it possible to use three different double-bass tunings (solo, orchestral and Viennese). Moreover, it contains the editor's virtuoso cadenzas as well.I have performed the Vanhal in Viennese tuning and it was my thesis topic so I am thrilled to see an edition that makes this tuning so accessible. I highly recommend this all-encompassing edition. (Marian Heckenburg, Stringendo).

Finally an easy version of the classic tune, Malagueña, arranged by Mike Story! Played with a swing feel around 144 BPM with a written-out alto solo, trumpet 1 range to written F top line, this easy to play crowd pleaser will be a hit. It's accessible, very playable and definitely a great addition to your library. (2:26) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

Both of the Kyrie settings in E flat major K. 322 (1778/79) and C major K. 323 (probably not prior to 1790) belong to those works by Mozart which were only handed down as incomplete draft scores. However, in both cases Mozart's original drafts were so extensive and well advanced that Abbe Maximilian Stadler, Mozart's friend and known from the history associated with the Requiem, could complete both settings. In 1830, for the first edition of the Kyrie K. 323 Stadler employed the text of the Marian Antiphon for Easter Regina coeli laetare for the vocal parts. The Carus edition presents both the original text (Kyrie), as well as the text from the first edition (Regina coeli), so that the work may be performed in the Mass or in the context of a solemn Vespers during the time of Easter. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.5132300.

This is a very effective setting of the Marian antiphon for Easter was probably composed in Dresden. The piece consists of two practically identically outer movements which frame an expressive, but restrained alto aria. Score and part available separately - see item CA.4096200.
