He who seeks a moving and lyrical work with rewarding roles for the choir could do no better than to choose Rheinberger's Stern von Bethlehem. In nine scenes (Expectation, The shepherds, The appearance of the angels, The Star, etc.) the Christmas story is lyrically portrayed. Songlike and pastoral choruses, a heartfelt soprano part and finally, the exotic, charming procession of the Wisemen through the desert have insured this work an increasing popularity. It was written in 1890 to a libretto by Rheinberger's wife Fanny. On account of their similar scoring, this work can be easily combined for a performance with Mendelssohn's Vom Himmel hoch or Die Geburt Christi.

The Vienna Musicians' Society, a pension fund for the widows and orphans of professional musicians, asked Mozart, among others, to compose a choral work for performance at their benefit concert series. Presumably it was due not just to the pressure of a deadline, but also for the chance to have the music of the torso of the great C minor Mass, K. 427, performed in Vienna that he chose to arrange this composition for the Society as the cantata Davide penitente (The Mass was originally written for a performance in Salzburg in 1783). Thus, Mozart set the Kyrie and Gloria with a sacred text in Italian in the style of penitential prayers. The text was suited for Lent, which occurred at the time of the benefit concert. He also added one newly-composed aria for tenor and one aria for soprano. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5146900.

The Magnificat shows the typical personal style of the composer Gunther Martin Gottsche, who was inspired by the colorful harmonics of French Impressionism as well as by elements of jazz music. He has given equal consideration to both the vocal line and the ease of execution as well as an understanding for the musical events and a comprehensible interpretation of the text. The work, which was revised at the beginning of 2016, is based on an earlier work commissioned for the Dresden Kreuzkirche. A version with organ accompaniment (instead of orchestra) is also available. Score available separately - see item CA.2721000.

Christoph Willibald Gluck’s most popular opera “Orphe et Euridice†was performed in 1774 in Paris to sensational success. This new adaption followed the original Viennese version with Italian text that was first performed in 1762 under the direction of the composer in the Burgtheater. For the Paris version Gluck changed the leading part Orpheus from an alto to a tenor role and composed new recitatives. Both versions of Gluck’s reform drama are based on a libretto by Ranieri de’ Calzabigi and revolutionised metastasian opera of the 18th century. Solo and choral music, instrumental music, pantomime and dance are all closely connected; the myth replaces a historical plot surrounded by intrigue; where there would have been a da-capo aria there are now simple song forms and coloratura is largely abandoned. These meticulously revised vocal scores of both versions are also newly set.
