VII: Movimento dei vari artisti SKU: HL.50603662 For Flute and Piano(+)
VII: Movimento dei vari artisti SKU: HL.50603662 For Flute and Piano. Composed by Nino Rota. Arranged by C. Tabarelli. Woodwind Solo. Softcover. Ricordi #NR142178. Published by Ricordi (HL.50603662). ISBN 9781705127834. UPC: 840126952292. This work is a reworking of the music written by Nino Rota for the film of the same name by Federico Fellini, Oscar winner in 1957. In 1967 Rota composed the music for the ballet La strada for the Teatro alla Scala, in collaboration with the choreographer Mario Pistoni, where Carla Fracci was expected to play the role of Gelsomina. This show has always remained alive in my memory since in those years I began the profession of flutist at La Scala, where I also had the opportunity to perform ballet. The transcription traces the salient moments of the plot, highlighted by the captions taken from the original score. Free of virtuosity, so appreciated by the flutists, it is conceived with the intention of restoring the dramaturgical tension of the Fellini-Rota masterpiece. (C. Tabarelli). $12.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Seven Days Piano solo Schott
Piano (Piano Solo) SKU: HL.49046935 Solo Piano. Composed by Gregor...(+)
Piano (Piano Solo) SKU: HL.49046935 Solo Piano. Composed by Gregory Spears. Piano Solo. Classical. Softcover. 98 pages. Duration 6180 seconds. Schott Music #ED30418. Published by Schott Music (HL.49046935). ISBN 9781705169353. UPC: 842819116837. 9.25x12.0x0.5 inches. SEVEN DAYS is a cycle for solo piano in 21 movements, most lasting between three and seven minutes, distributed in the form of a custom app produced by the 92Y and released during their Fall 2021 season. Using the app on their phones, listeners are asked to listen to three movements a day according to an approximate schedule - one movement in the morning, one in the afternoon, and another sometime in the evening - for seven days. The music is performed by Pedja Muzijevic and presented alongside paintings by Gloria Maximo. (Please visit 92Y.org for information on how to download the Seven Days app.) The work is designed as a listening experience that tunes us into the passing of time, connecting us both to the present moment as well as the cycle of the week. The experience invites music to inhabit and structure our everyday - to find us where we are in the world. The morning-afternoonevening schedule is meant to focus participants on the dawn-to-dusk cycle as well as to create a communal listening ritual. It is also an experiment in large-scale form, designed to draw attention to musical material developing across a week-long expanse, interspersed with vast silences. SEVEN DAYS was shaped by a year spent in relative isolation due to the pandemic. While it is a work composed during a time of quarantine, it will be experienced first by an audience in the process of returning to a more normal world. In that sense, it is an artwork born out of a year of relatively cloistered existence that seeks to preserve aspects of that experience as we move forward. The piece was also inspired by the work of Morton Feldman and Chantal Akerman, whose large-scale works consider time, process, and stillness. Their art struck me with a fresh relevance during the silent stretches of the pandemic year 2020. It was also a year in which writings about time, penned by contemplatives like Henry David Thoreau and Thomas Merton, held new weight. All of this in turnresonated with Gloria Maximo's profound paintings, which I've long admired. SEVEN DAYS is an artwork we are invited to do - using music to point our attention to the present moment, the everyday, and the seemingly mundane. It is a piece listeners are also asked to live within as it unfolds over a week rather than to witness it live. The key players here are time and the listener's own surroundings, starring together alongside music and art in a wordless drama. -Gregory Spears. $105.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Chamber Music Bassoon, Piano SKU: PR.114423350 Composed by Amanda Harberg. Set of Score and Parts. 32+12 pages. Duration 16 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-42335. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114423350). ISBN 9781491135112. UPC: 680160686339. This stunning addition to the bassoon repertory features dramatic outer movements framing a slow and plaintive aria. Harberg’s program notes put the drama and its crying-out high notes in the context of writing in 2021: “The composition was deeply influenced by disruptive forces unfolding around us. While this unrest made writing difficult at times and brought me to uncomfortable places within myself, the process was also full of unexpected discoveries and musical solutions I never would have found in less troubled times.â€. Connections are all around us. I first met bassoonist Adrian Morejon while writing my Suite for Wind Quintet for the Dorian Wind Quintet in 2017. He and I quickly became fast friends and decided to collaborate on a new piece. Over the next two years, Adrian assembled a phenomenal group of 28 bassoonists from around the world to be co-commissioners. Adrian and I premiered the resulting sonata at the International Double Reed Society’s 2021 Virtual Symposium. The SONATA was composed between January and June 2021. In composing it, my goal was to offer bassoonists a substantial work that would show off the instrument’s remarkable strengths including its athletic agility, gorgeous singing qualities, and enormous range. While I generally avoid being programmatic, this composition was deeply influenced by the disruptive forces unfolding around us. While this unrest made writing difficult at times and often brought me to uncomfortable places within myself, the process was also full of unexpected discoveries and musical solutions I never would have found in less troubled times.I am deeply grateful to Adrian for our collaboration, and to everyone in the consortium for making the SONATA possible. $24.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Chamber Music Piano SKU: PR.110418250 Composed by Shulamit Ran. Sws. Performance Score. 12 pages. Duration 11 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #110-41825. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.110418250). ISBN 9781491133859. UPC: 680160683345. 9 x 12 inches. This intriguing 11-minute work builds on alternations between declamatory unmetered phrases (beginning as “sonorous, rubato, with great aplomb and resonanceâ€) and strictly motoric rhythmic sections, developing in waves of increasing drama and intensity. Commissioned by the Naumburg Foundation for pianist Xiaohui Yang’s Carnegie Hall premiere. Ballade is a one-movement work of approximately 11 minutes, divided into three main parts that are played without significant break.Ballade alternates sections where the performer is invited to apply great interpretive freedom, especially on the temporal plane, with contrasting sections that are quite precise and rhythmic. Although carefully notated, the “freer†sections (often marked rubato) certainly allude at times to the kind of repertoire that is familiar to most concert pianists, doing so not by way of quotation but by the type of expressivity, affect, and even passagework. Thus, the performer should think of the score as a “blueprint,†where the many descriptive words I have inserted throughout the score (ranging from sonorous, rubato, with great aplomb and resonance as the work begins, to with greater motion, in a series of ever-expanding “waves†later on) are intended to act as triggers for one’s sense of imagination and fantasy to take off and bring the music alive! An inscription in the score urges the pianist to play fearlessly and exuberantly, but also tenderly! $16.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
| Divertimento Recorder, Piano - Intermediate Forsyth Publications
Recorder and Piano - Intermediate SKU: FP.FBM04 Composed by Martin Bussey...(+)
Recorder and Piano - Intermediate SKU: FP.FBM04 Composed by Martin Bussey. Sheet Music and Books. This fresh and appealing work lives up to its name. Particularly diverting is the finale, a hornpipe subtitled The Knotted Sailor, in which the nifty performers have to negotiate frequent and teasing changes of rhythm at speed. Classical. Collection. Forsyths Publications #FBM04. Published by Forsyths Publications (FP.FBM04). ISBN 9790570504077. The opening movement is a free fantasia, contrasting with the middle movement, a scherzetto, in homage to, and based on the letters of the name of, the composer Douglas Steele, an assistant to Sir Thomas Beecham and a founding father of Chethams School, and which quotes from Steele’s beautiful carol The Snow Falls. Divertimento was first performed by John Turner and Janet Simpson at a concert in aid of the Peter Cunningham Memorial Fund at Mellor Church on 17th January 2005. It uses both treble and descant instruments. The second movement was originally composed for a concert in Manchester Cathedral in memory of Douglas Steele, one of the founding fathers of Chetham's School, and quotes (by kind permission of Forsyth Brothers Ltd.), from his well-known carol The Snow Falls. It has been separately recorded by John Turner and Stephen Hough on Autumn Sequence – the music of Douglas Steele and his Circle (Campion Cameo 2040/41). Martin Bussey was born in London in 1958. He was a Choral Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge, during which time he studied composition with Robin Holloway. Following postgraduate singing study at the RNCM he settled in Manchester and held a number of posts, including Head of Academic Music and Director of Choirs at Chetham’s School of Music until 2013. He continues as Musical Director of the Chester Bach Singers, a Vocal Tutor at Manchester University, Chairman of the Finzi Friends and a Director of the Ludlow Song Weekend. Compositions include the highly successful monodrama about Mary I, Mary’s Hand, premiered in 2018; a significant collection of solo songs which includes settings of Housman, Hardy, and Walt Whitman, many recorded on the disc Through a glass; and much choral music, recorded by Sonoro under Neil Ferris in 2019. $15.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
| Without Form and Void Choral SATB SATB, Piano Theodore Presser Co.
Choral SATB choir, piano SKU: PR.362034230 A Prologue to THE CREATION ...(+)
Choral SATB choir, piano SKU: PR.362034230 A Prologue to THE CREATION by Franz Joseph Haydn. Composed by Dan Welcher. Sws. Premiered at the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, Austin, TX. Choral. Performance Score. With Standard notation. Composed July 5 2014. 16 pages. Duration 5:15. Theodore Presser Company #362-03423. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.362034230). ISBN 9781598069556. UPC: 680160624225. Letter inches. English. When the Texas Choral Consort asked Welcher to write a short prologue to Haydn's The Creation, his first reaction was that Haydn already presents Chaos in his introductory movement. As he thought about it, Welcher began envisioning a truer void to precede Haydn's depiction of Chaos within the scope of 18th-century classical style - quoting some of Haydn's themes and showing human voices and inhuman sounds in a kind of pre-creation melange of color, mood, and atmosphere. Welcher accepted this challenge with the proviso that his prologue would lead directly into Haydn's masterpiece without stopping, and certainly without applause in between. Scored for mixed chorus and Haydn's instrumentation, Without Form and Void is a dramatically fresh yet pragmatic enhancement to deepen any performance of Haydn's The Creation. Orchestral score and parts are available on rental. When Brent Baldwin asked me to consider writing a short prologue to THE CREATION, my first response was “Why?â€Â THE CREATION already contains a prologue; it’s called “Representation of Chaosâ€, and it’s Haydn’s way of showing the formless universe. How could a new piece do anything but get in the way? But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. The Age of Enlightenment’s idea of “Chaos†was just extended chromaticism, no more than Bach used (in fact, Bach went further).Perhaps there might be a way to use the full resources of the modern orchestra (or at least, a Haydn-sized orchestra) and the modern chorus to really present a cosmic soup of unborn musical atoms, just waiting for Haydn’s sure touch to animate them. Perhaps it could even quote some of Haydn’s themes before he knew them himself, and also show human voices and inhuman sounds in a kind of pre-creation mélange of color, mood, and atmosphere. So I accepted the challenge, with the proviso that my new piece not be treated as some kind of “overtureâ€, but would instead be allowed to lead directly into Haydn’s masterpiece without stopping, and certainly without applause. I crafted this five minute piece to begin with a kind of “music of the spheres†universe-hum, created by tuned wine glasses and violin harmonics. The chorus enters very soon after, with the opening words of Genesis whispered simultaneously in as many languages as can be found in a chorus. The first two minutes of my work are all about unborn human voices and unfocused planetary sounds, gradually becoming more and more “coherent†until we finally hear actual pitches, melodies, and words. Three of Haydn’s melodies will be heard, to be specific, but not in the way he will present them an hour from now. It’s almost as if we are listening inside the womb of the universe, looking for a faint heartbeat of worlds, animals, and people to come. At the end of the piece, the chorus finally finds its voice with a single word: “God!â€, and the orchestra finally finds its own pulse as well. The unstoppable desire for birth must now be answered, and it is----by Haydn’s marvelous oratorio. I am not a religious man in any traditional sense. Neither was Haydn, nor Mozart, nor Beethoven. But all of them, as well as I, share in what is now called a humanistic view of how things came to be, how life in its many forms developed on this planet, and how Man became the recorder of history. The gospel according to John begins with a parody of Genesis: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.â€Â  I love that phrase, and it’s in that spirit that I offer my humble “opener†to the finest work of one of the greatest composers Western music has ever known. My piece is not supposed to sound like Haydn. It’s supposed to sound like a giant palette, on which a composer in 1798 might find more outrageous colors than his era would permit…but which, I hope, he would have been delighted to hear. $3.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Piano and Chamber Ensemble - Grade 4 SKU: HL.14027981 Composed by Poul Ruders. Music Sales America. 20th Century. Score. Composed 2002. Edition Wilhelm Hansen #WH30293. Published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen (HL.14027981). ISBN 9788759808368. English. 'Dramaphonia' for piano solo and 11 instruments forms the first part of a trilogy of solo-concertos, the remaining two being one for percussion and smaller symphony orchestra ('Monodrama') and the last ('Polydrama') for violoncello and full orchestra. All three pieces are in one movement each and may be performed together, thus presenting a vast concerto grosso of the duration of one hour and a half. Each concerto, however, stands by itself, offering its own story: having employed the word drama in all three pieces, I naturally want to imply that something is going on, a series of hidden events created by each listener's own inner theatre which enables him to stage his own, personal associations, and in the case of 'Dramaphonia', the compositorical tension alters between action and frozen panoramas. In the percussion concerto, the rhythmical progression is being constantly intensified, whereas the metric proportions of Dramaphonia tighten and loosen, like a magnifying glass being wielded in and out of focus. 'Dramaphonia' is commissioned and dedicated to LONTANO and Poul Rosenbaum. $105.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

The first movement is filled with drama and passion. Its atmosphere can be seen to be related to my Second Symphony Johannes Angelos. The second movement is a set of polyphonic variations reminiscent of a passacaglia. The music seems to be hypnotized by a theme consisting of a chromatic cluster often notes. In the last movement, one at a time the winds find a new kind of music resembling fragments of a hymn at first hesitantly, but soon gaining in strength and confidence. Fast-moving triplets start to appear and the music reaches a joyful and ecstatic conclusion. -Olli Mustonen Content I. Drammatico e passionato II. Quasi una Passacaglia III. 'LISTENING EARTH' is a symphonic drama, a one- movement composition in four parts based on the work by two writers, Joseph Addison (1672-1719) and W.H.Auden (1907-1973). Joseph Addison is not particularly well known; he was English, a classical scholar, essayist, poet and politician, but one of his hymns was used by Benjamin Britten. in his setting of a Thomas Tallis canon. The hymn is singularly beautiful and being a composer always inspired by extramusical stimuli such as poems, nature, paintings, I was immediately convinced when I carne across the Addison hymn, that here was exactly what I wanted to use as my major source of inspiration for this piece, commissioned by and written for The Berlin Philharmonic. I don't refer to the hymn in its entirety, but have chosen the following 3 excerpts, all acting as mottos for the first three sections of the piece, thus turning the piece into a straightforward tonepoem in the classical. $131.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Originally written for piano, Grieg later scored his Holberg Suite for orchestra. Geoffrey Brand has done a masterful job of setting two movements of the suite - the Sarabande and Gavotte - for wind band. Give your students the opportunity to perform first-rate classical music they wouldn't otherwise have access to.
Born in Bergen, Norway, into a family of Scottish descent, Edvard Grieg showed a talent for music early and at the age of 10 had piano lessons from his mother. In 1849 he went to study at Leipzig Conservatoire before moving to Copenhagen where he met Riokaard Nordaak, a young Norwegian composer who was immersed in Norwegian nationalism and greatly influence Grieg who felt his future was as a musician dedicated to romantic nationalism. Holberg Suite, originally for piano, was written in 1884 in response to a commission to mark the bicentenary of the birth of Ludvig Holberg, a Norwegian dramatist and satirist. A year later, Grieg arranged 5 movements for string orchestra. Sarabande and Gavotte are intended to be played segue but can, if desired, be performed separately. The music expresses Grieg and his native Norway in a manner which justifies his declaration I am not an exponent of Scandinavian music but of Norwegian.. $7.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
