For the teacher of instrumental music classes, individual differences among students are inevitable. Unfortunately, the lack of flexible materials frequently forces teachers to adopt a quasi-instructional procedure best described as lockstep, where all students in the class rehearse each exercise until the slow members of the class succeed or until the teacher gives up. The Individualized Instructor was designed with the expectation that students are different. With this method, high-, average-, and low-achieving students in a class are able to progress simultaneously at their own rate according to their interest and ability. In addition, the flexibility of the instructional format often allows twelve or more students to perform different musical material simultaneously, thereby eliminating the “follow the leader†approach to music learning. All study materials in the series are musical. Nonmusical exercises are excluded in favor of folk song literature, musical rounds, and musical ensembles. “Concertino by Eugène Bozza is a piece for C Tuba or Bb Saxhorn and Piano. Written in two parts, this work lasts 17 minutes and is very difficult to execute as a strong endurance and a high level of skill and technique is required. The whole score is in F key with some accidental alterations. Very interesting in term of melody and sonority, this piece definitely shows the full Tuba range at its best and is perfect for contests and recitals. Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prize for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas, chamber works and ballets, among others.&rdquo.

The Command Performance For Beginning Band book contains 14 complete band arrangements designed to be playable by students who have completed the first few lessons of their beginning band method book, and are written using the first 6 notes learned. Inside the conductor score book is a CD accompaniment for all 14 arrangements. Each of the background accompaniments has been created using MIDI technology. The use of synthesizer voices and programmed drum patterns allows the student the opportunity to perform along with sounds and rhythms they are familiar with, but which are not generally associated with young band music.
