This collection of 12 popular songs for the beginning band is correlated to the Belwin 21st Century Band Method, Levels 1 and 2, but it can also be used with any other recognized beginning band method. Each selection is presented in two ways: The solo arrangement is written so that it can be played as a solo, unison (octaves) ensemble, or full unison band with piano accompaniment or CD accompaniment. The snare and bass drummers play a rhythmical accompaniment part. The band arrangement uses the same rhythms and melodic lines included in the solo arrangement, and, in most cases, even the dynamic levels for the melody lines are the same. The piano accompaniment in this arrangement is not essential, as the selections can be performed without it. Titles are: Augie's Great Municipal Band * Linus and Lucy * Eye of the Tiger * All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth * Tequila * Fun, Fun, Fun * The Rose * I'm Walkin' * Helena Polka * Sing, Sing, Sing * Star Wars (Main Theme) * Theme from Superman.

Classical string orchestras and chamber music ensembles are constantly looking for jazzy and popular works which break through the rigid boundaries between serious and light music. On the basis of his own practical work with string orchestras, the well-known jazz composer Sigi Busch has written two fantastic pieces for open-minded string players. They deal with the blues while also leaving room for the player's own improvisations. They are of moderate difficulty and suitable for good school orchestras, chamber orchestras or string quintets.

Original anthem From Mary Kay Beall and John Carter, this inspired ballad depicts the involvement and protection the angels provided from the very beginning of the Christmas story. From a place of peace and promise to a world of war and woe, Jesus came that winter evening, came to save us long ago. A quote from Of the Father's Love Begotten brings a hint of the familiar into this rich musical offering.

The Blue Danube is said to be Austria's secret anthem, and alongside the Radetzky March it is the traditional encore piece at the annual New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Already at its world premiere in 1867, this orchestral work triggered overwhelming enthusiasm, and the premiere of the choral version prompted a journalist to use the term Schlager (hit) for the first time in music history. The official title By the Beautiful Blue Danube is based on poems by Karl Isidor Becks; having his birth town Baja in mind, he contrasted the blue Danube with another river, the blonde Theiss. How utterly astonishing that this famous waltz is not really linked to Vienna. Be that as it may, its sensational popularity remains unimpaired.

Mendelssohn is considered a self-critical composer, who repeatedly reworked a number of his pieces until he deemed them worthy to be published. The path to his first Piano Trio was particularly rocky: only after several attempts was he able to complete it in the summer of 1839; it appeared in 1840 after further revisions. This perfectionism paid off, for Mendelssohn's D Minor Trio was immediately received with enthusiasm. Robert Schumann wrote: “It is the master trio of the present day, like those of Beethoven in Bb and D and that of Franz Schubert in Eb were in their time; a very beautiful composition which after years will still delight grandchildren and great-grandchildren.†Which was to prove true: even today, it numbers among the most popular works in the trio repertoire in general. The trio, taken from the volume Mendelssohn • Piano Trios HN 957, is now available from Henle for the first time also as a practical single edition.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) composed his Piano Concerto No. 1 in 1858 and performed the work's debut in Hanover, Germany, in 1859, to mixed reviews. The work initially began as a sonata for two pianos, then a four-movement symphony. Under the counsel of friends Julius Otto Grimm and violinist Joseph Joachim, Brahms landed on a three-movement piano concerto. After its fifth performance in December 1861, with Clara Schumann as piano soloist, the work still received mixed audience reception. It has since grown in popularity and has been recognized as a masterpiece. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Solo Piano.

The 'Piano Concerto No. 1' in B-flat minor, Op. 23, is one of the most popular of Tschaikowsky's compositions and among the best known of all piano concertos. The concerto follows the traditional form of three movements. The introduction's theme is notable for its apparent formal independence from the rest of the movement. Despite its very substantial nature, this theme is only heard twice, and it never reappears at any later point in the concerto. But everyone can point this concerto by hearing only the first 4 notes of the concerto. Dutch arranger Jos van de Braak transcribed the complete concerto for piano with accompaniment of a Symphonic Band.
