This treatment of the three-part collection, published in 1905, is based on Fritz Kreisler's original version and the later pianist transcriptions by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The harmonies, the chromatic developments, and the counterpoint of the pianoforte transcriptions are preserved; the original and transcription are combined into a virtuoso and effective solo piece. The three-triennial act typical of Vienna requires a certain, hardly noticeable freedom of tempo formation without metronomical compulsion.

A Tchaikovsky Urtext is no longer a rarity in Breitkopfs orchestral catalogue. Polina Vajdman has edited a very popular repertoire work that the composer personally did not think very highly of. He even confessed to having written the work without the warmth of love. Nevertheless, the piece is a masterful example of program music that seemingly casually interweaves two Russian folk songs, a liturgical melody of the Russian Orthodox Church and two national anthems, the Marseillaise and the Czars Hymn. The work was written for the consecration of the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow, which was erected in memory of the victory over Napoleon in 1812. The first edition of the score, which was carefully corrected three times by Tchaikovsky, is the principal source for this Urtext edition. The wording of the title The Year 1812 corresponds to the composers words, but was oddly never included in the first edition.

The choral is repeated a few times, separated only by some short variations. The movement ends in thriumph, with fanfares and the choral broughttogether.2nd movement: Reflections in the Old Church.In this movement my associations of a summer day, finding myself alone in an old deserted stone church. From the old walls I hear folk songs, perhaps like the ones sung in the church bypoor fishermen and farmers in days gone by. Suddenly the light from the sun breakes through the small circular window above the altar, and a lovely melody is heard, before the original figures take us to the end of the movement.3rd movement:Festive Reflections.Any festive occasion can be reflected in this movement. from the bonfire at midsummer-night to the children celebrating the return of the sun in the northern part of Norway. from the traditional sleigh-riding at Christmas tothe Celebrations of the National Day on the 17th of May each year.De componist: 1e deel: Reflections by the Fjord. This outstanding original from Larry Clark can be played any time of year! A vigorous theme moves through all the sections and violas combine with second violins for prominent solo passages. A section in minor adds to the drama as strong rhythmic chords give way to a subdued tremolo in the first violins, reminiscent of Vivaldi's Winter This music reaches a level of intensity your players and audience will love.Out of the Winter is a musical depiction of the many moods of winter from its harsh storms to its simple beauty. The composition is based on a central main theme that is musically developed throughout the composition presented in and out of major and minor keys.The main theme begins right away without introduction and is set to depict the simple delicate beauty of a light falling snow. The theme is then developed in the minor key using simple contrapuntal techniques that give the composition a fresh sound for pieces at this grade level. The aggressive development of the piece is a musical description of a powerful winter storm. The tension of this section is built to a climax using simple divisi in the strongs and some poly-chordal harmonic techniques that give way to a final return of the main theme to complete the piece.Special care should be given to exaggerating the contrast between the two diverse sections of the piece. The main theme should be light and uplifting. The second section with the theme in minor should have an ominous presence, but still be reminiscent of the original light main theme. As with all of my compositions at this grade level, adjust the tempo to fit the ability level of your students. It is hope that this piece helps to reinforce the concepts of good musicianship which you are trying to instill in your students. Bowings should be used as a guide and should be adjusted to your needs.It has been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to write this piece. With completely different notes, but holding on to the same form and atmosphere the latter has tried to write an attractive composition for both young and old.Gate 11 refers to the ever agitated and noisy scenes at an airport, especially during check-in. Yet there are also passengers who wait patiently, letting their thoughts range at will, looking forward to meeting a loved one at the end of their journey.‘Music’ van John Miles was een favoriet nummer van Blackstone. Met totaal andere noten maar in dezelfde vorm en sfeer heeft hij getracht een aantrekkelijke compositie te schrijven voor jong en oud.Gate 11 refereert aan dealtijd weer gejaagde en luidruchtige taferelen op een luchthaven en dan vooral bij het inchecken. Toch zijn er ook andere passagiers die geduldig wachten en in stilte wegdromen en uitkijken naar de ontmoeting met een geliefde aanhet einde van de reis.
