SST(A)TTB vocal soli or choir, ST(A)TB voices, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 violins, 2 violas, cello, piano SKU: CA.2100700 Psalm 45. Grand Motet. Composed by Jean-Philippe Rameau. Edited by Jean-Paul C. Montagnier. This edition: Paperbound. French Sacred Music. Deus Noster Refugium (Psalm 45). Sacred vocal music, Psalms, Latin, Psalms. Full score. 68 pages. Duration 26 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 21.007/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2100700). ISBN 9790007142179. Language: Latin. The three grands motets, Quam dilecta, In convertendo and Deus noster refugium, which Jean-Philippe Rameau composed from 1713 to 1715 are still relatively unknown today. Yet these masterworks can stand comparison to the best works of Michel-Richard de Lalande. They are testimony to Rameau's great contrapuntal mastery and contain beautiful lyrical passages. Quam dilecta and Deus noster refugium have survived only in later sources which originated in about 1770, after Rameau's death, and the works have been rendered in a scoring which does not correspond to his intentions. The present new edition attempts for the first time to reconstruct them as closely as possible to their original form. The edition of In convertendo is based on Rameau's autograph score from 1751. $48.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SSAA choir SKU: CA.964420 No. 3 from Three Marian Motets. Composed by Ko Matsushita. Contemporary Choir Music. Hodie Beata Virgo Maria Fass.Ssaa. Sacred vocal music, Advent, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Full score. Carus Verlag #CV 09.644/20. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.964420). ISBN 9790007143497. Text language: Latin. The aged Simeon takes the new-born Jesus in his arms, recognises his significance and celebrates this moment in a paean of praise as the fulfilment of his life. In Matsushita's motet this song of praise, the nunc dimittis, stands at the centre of the composition. Here, the triad of C-F sharp-G, used for the word hodie - today at the beginning, symbolically combines with a Gregorian-like motif, revolving around the central note of B flat in whole-tone movement, and which is used to represent the Virgin Mary. The work ends with a mystical wash of sound, a whole-tone cluster which emerges from the aleatorically repeated basic motifs of the work, and fades away to nothing. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

This set of three motets for unaccompanied male choir sets the Latin words for the De Profundis, Ave Maria and Laudate and manifests Lewkovitch's fascination both with chant and with modality.Contemporary Danish composer, conductor and Organist Bernhard Lewkovitch has followed a rare path among modern composers. From 1947 he was Organist at St Ansgars Kirches and later remained connected with the Catholic Church by working as an Organist. Clearly he is inspired by the Catholic liturgy and sees his great output of ecclesiastical music as a vocation and a great responsibility. For many years his work by inspired by Gregorian chant and was composed in church modes, then inthe mid 1950's he began to expand into modern bitonality and polytonality, culminating in Il cantico delle creature in 1962/3 in which there was no conventional notation and no fixed pitch. After that, Lewkovitch had somewhat of a hiatus, later returning again to the inspirations of the mid1950's. $3.25 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

SKU: CA.2780400 Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Edited by Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition. Hinni, Salve Regina, Motetti. Sacred vocal music, Hymns, Motets, Psalms, Latin. Full score. 92 pages. Carus Verlag #CV 27.804/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2780400). ISBN 9790007167790. Today Monteverdi's Selva morale et spirituale (1641) stands entirely in the shadow of his famous Vespers 1610. The editions from 1610 and 1641 both include music for the Mass and Vespers, but each of these collections was composed under much different circumstances during Monteverdi's lifetime. If the works of 1610 are a bold combination of traditional compositional techniques and avant garde music, which were intended by this weary Court Composer at Mantua as an application portfolio for a new job, the 1641 collection is the only church music by the mature Monteverdi which was published after almost thirty years in his position as Music Director of St. Mark's Cathedral: the latter, a kind of best of collection from his many years of experience as a church musician. In Venice the composer had not only a fabulous, but a large ensemble at his disposal (finally, about 35 singers, alone)! The combination of soloistic and weighty tutti sections makes a big effect in this music, it makes the music, with its clearly defined sections and, for the most part homophonic choral passages more easily performable than the Vespers for today's choirs. The new edition, comprised initially of three volumes, also includes those works from the Selva Morale (a Mass and two Magnificats) which have already been published by Carus, as well as all further liturgical compositions for use in the church. Volume III, Motetti, Salve Regina, Himini, contains compositions for 1 to 3 voices and basso continuo, some with two violins (the psalms are included in both the Salmi I and Salmi II volumes). The edition is based on the methods employed in the much acclaimed Carus edition of the Vespers: * It contains a detailed foreword with suggestions for notation, scoring and for the liturgical use of individual compositions. * For the present edition four of the five surviving printed copies, as well as contemporary manuscript were consulted. Facsimiles illustrate special characteristics of the edtion of 1641. A Critical Report makes clear all of the editorial decisions made in the edition. * All of the pieces are printed untransposed and using the original note values. * All of the pieces are available in single editions with complete performance material. * Vocal scores of all works with obbligato instruments facilitate rehearsal. * Instrumental parts for collaparte accompaniment of tutti-sections (including text underlay). $91.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra baritone voice solo, SATB choir, ottavino, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, percussion, 2 violin, viola, cello, contrabass SKU: CA.2740314 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Edited by Dieter Schickling. Violoncello. Sacred vocal music, Motets. Single Part, Cello. SC. 8 pages. Duration 15 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.403/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2740314). ISBN 9790007201982. Language: Latin. Puccini's first known sacred work was composed during his school days at the Istituto Pacini in Lucca. It was first performed there in 1877. The text was a hymn to the Patron Saint of Lucca which was probably written by the composer himself. The work was so popular that by 1880 it had received three further performances, though it was also inserted in the Messa a 4 voci, after the Credo. Thereafter it disappeared from the music world and was only first rediscovered in the 1990s. Since, with the exception of the lack of a solo tenor in the piece, it is identical with this one in the Messa, for this reason it would seem only natural to perform these two works together. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2740300. $6.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
