Lubos Fiser (1935-1999) was one of the most talented Czech composers of his generation. Born in Prague, he studied at the Prague Conservatoire from 1952-1956 and then at the Academy of Music. He was known to the public for his many film scores but it was his other compositions, many of them written under difficult political conditions, which mark him out as a composer of significance.Fiser's eight piano sonatas have a special place in his oeuvre. Fiser subsequently eliminated his second sonata (1956) from his compositional repertoire. From the third sonata onwards (1960), subtitled Fantasia, the composer wrote a two-movement composition, in which he continued to incorporate as his fundamental musical device the confrontation of sharp contrasts in tempo and mood. Beginning with his fourth sonata (1962-1964), Fiser created a single-movement work in an expressive, formally focused composition which betrays a progression towards greater compactness of musical shape in a concise yet effective musical testimony. The fifth sonata was written in 1974, the sixth sonata in 1978. The seventh sonata from 1985 was dedicated to Frantisek Maxian, the eighth sonata was written in 1995.Piano Sonata No.1 was written in 1955. Fiser worked on it during his last year at the Prague Conservatoire under the supervision of Emil Hlobil. The piece is one of Fiser's early works which still respect a traditional compositional approach. Unlike his major and late piano sonatas, this sonata has three movements, each representing the traditional Classical-Romantic form. The sonata was premiered by Fiser's fellow-student and friend Antonin Jemelik in Theatre D34 on 30 January 1956.The new setting for this piece is based on the single edition to date (SNKLHU, 1957); only with regard to a few inconsistencies in the score was it necessary to consult the composer's manuscript (kept at the National Museum - Czech Museum of Music, acquisition number 297/2006).

Having started his career in North Carolina, composer Jack Stamp feels a special connection to the state and its people in this exciting symphonic work. The composer pays tribute by writing evocative tone poems about three locales. the third movement features antiphonal treatments of hymn tunes, and the fourth is a raucous interpretation of the ballad Two Sisters.

This enchanting melody is from the fourth movement of Bach’s Cantata 140 which was composed in 1731 using the parable of the wise and foolish virgins as the text. The work is beautiful in its simplicity with only three melodic lines, demonstrating Bach’s counterpoint at its best. For greatest effect it is suggested that the trumpets and trombones play behind the band or to the right and left of the stage.

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions dâÂÂOz website and on YouTube. Search for àvos guitares, prêt, joue! Kalevi Aho's Piano Sonata No. 2 Hommage a Beethoven (2016) is a tribute to that great giant of the piano sonata, Beethoven. The very opening bars already allude to the older master's most mammoth sonata, the Hammerklavier, op. 106. In many places, Aho has spread the texture over three staves in his search for a mighty sound. The third movement is in the nature of a scherzo, drawing on musical material from the second movement of the Hammerklavier. There are no allusions to Beethoven in the fourth movement, but its texture, with bells, is somehow evocative of Mussorgsky's Great Gate of Kiev. The last movement gathers the sonata's motifs together again until, little by little, they disperse and chirruping birdsong leads the sonata to an enigmatic conclusion. The sonata is dedicated to Sonja Fraki, who premiered the work at Mantta Music Festival in August 2018.

This number topped the U.S. chart as the lead release single from Bad. Siedah Garrett, who sang the duet, was a protégé of Quincy Jones with whom Michael tag-teamed for three solos on Off the Wall. (Garrett is also renowned as one of the writers of the song Man in the Mirror,â? the fourth single which carries a strong message.) Japanese fans still remember this song being performed as an encore during the Bad World Tour in 1987. The straightforward, sweet love song starts out quietly and gradually takes on heat, unfolding a wonderful musical sentiment. The performance of the arranged version also strikes the audience with an imposing world of sound comparableto that of a full orchestra. As a famous contributor to classical Organ music, Cesar Franck's (1822-1890) catalogue is extensive. Moreover, being an organist himself, his Organ works are significant and remain ever-popular to this day. When French organist, Marcel Dupre (1886-1971) compiled the series of Franck's Organ Works, it was well-received, and to this day remains popular with all organists. The fourth volume includes a favoured selection of Franck's works, including three of his chorales. In addition, Dupre's annotations in Organ Works comprise fingerings, rules on technique and instructions on ornamentation, amongst other aspects. This compilation of Franck's most loved compositions for the Organ cannot be missed by aspiring performers of the instrument..

SONATA per il Flauto traverso solo senza Basso, da C.F.E. Bach appeared in 1763 in the fourth quarter publication of Musikalisches Mancherley, a musical quarterly printed in Berlin. In transcribing the work for trombone, Sauer has changed the original key of A minor to C minor and has revised the order of the movements to a more typical fast-slow-fast pattern. This work in three movements is suitable for advanced performers.

The joyful 6/8 meter and sprightly violin (or C instrument) figures make this English carol arrangement as much fun to listen to as it is to perform. Women and men both get a chance to sing this uplifting melody before splitting into part writing on Sing O my love on the latter three verses. Jennifer has also included the rarely heard fourth verse that speaks of the baptism of Christ, making this anthem a gem for any concert or liturgy during the Christmas season. Choral arranging at its best.

In three movements, this stirring selection is a loving musical portrait of patriotism in all its forms. The opening movement, Declamation, is a brief, rousing statement of American identity; Meditation shows the introspective side of the patriotic spirit, with soul-searching melodies and a tone of somber remembrance; and Celebration closes the set with an exuberant declaration of national pride and unity. Great any time of the year, and ideal for summer concerts and Fourth of July celebrations, Heroic Valor is sure to inspire.

This little-known tune provides great material for a hymn anthem. It's a sending forth text, scored with the men always echoing the text of the women at one measure. First, in canon, then in counterpoint. Mixed meters are introduced in the third and fourth stanzas, and the final stanza expands the score to SAT over echoing bass. Lots of excitement here. This edition may be performed as a suite of three: Lord, Enthron'd in Heav'nly Spendor, Look unto Abraham, and Know That the Lord Is God. The trumpet in C part is interlined in the score.

Useful for a sacred concert or the music appreciation services churches sometimes hold, this anthem is based on a Charles Wesley text. The composer's knack for an exuberant organ part is on display, and handbells are optional. (Requires three octaves and has few optional notes in the fourth.) Your choir will enjoy singing all of it, but the part in canon (with the basses and handbells in augmentation) is quite a bit of fun.

Liszt composed three piano works on Paganini's bell theme. The best known of these works is La Campanella (1851). The Clochette fantasia, that is the Grande Fantaisie de bravoure sur la Clochette de Paganini (1831-1834) as well as the early version of the F sharp minor study, the Campanella (1838) in A flat minor are much less played. Liszt composed a fourth piano work on the campanelle theme. Similar to the preceding it is a series of variations. The second theme is also taken from Paganini: it is the theme of a variation series known with the title The Carnival in Venice.
