Martin Amlin’s first recital work for Trumpet and Piano brings all the iridescent excitement that has intrigued other performers. Composed for his renowned colleague Terry Everson, Amlin’s sonata pours new wine into old bottles with its three movements titled: 1. Invention, 2. Chaconne, and 3. Moto Perpetuo. The publication provides solo parts for both C and E-flat Trumpet. Composer and pianist Martin Amlin has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Tanglewood Music Center, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Massachusetts Artists Foundation, St. Botolph Club Foundation, and the Massachusetts Council for the Arts. He was a recipient of an ASCAP Grant to Young Composers and has received many ASCAPlus Awards. He has been a resident at Yaddo, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the MacDowell Colony, where he was named a Norlin Fellow.Much of Amlin’s music is characterized by a pungent tonality and energetic rhythms. His Sonata for Piccolo and Piano and Sonata No. 2 for Flute and Piano both won the National Flute Association’s Newly Published Music Competition. Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra was premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,and he has had performances of his music by the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver Chorale, Back Bay Chorale, Webster Trio, and the American Vocal Arts Quintet. He has had commissions from the Seattle Flute Society, Pacific Serenades, the Chicago Flute Club, ALEA III, the James Pappoutsakis memorial flute competition, pianist Andrew Willis, and clarinetist Michael Webster.Martin Amlin is Chairman of the Department of Composition and Theory at Boston University and Director of the Young Artists Composition Program at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He is also recipient of Boston University’s Kahn Award for his Piano Sonata No. 7. He studied with Nadia Boulanger at the Ecoles d’Art Américaines in Fontainebleau and the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, and received masters and doctoral degrees as well as the Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Mr. Amlin has appeared as soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra in performances of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and has performed on the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Prelude concerts at both Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. He has also appeared on the FleetBoston Celebrity Series and been pianist for the M.I.T. Experimental Music Studio and the New England Ragtime Ensemble. Even today, these works have maintained their importance throughout the methodological progress in literature. Apart from the concertos, Goltermann also composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Stylistically wholly rooted in the Romantic spirit of their time, the pieces are relatively short and of medium difficulty as regards the technical demands. It is not least due to their melodic and harmonic catchiness that they enjoy a lasting popularity both in music lessons and in domestic concerts.

Rooted entirely in the romantic spirit of their time with regard to style, they are relatively short pieces of medium difficulty. It is not least due to its melodic and harmonic catchiness that the rather easy Reverie in G minor Op. 92/2 enjoys great popularity both in lessons and in concerts. The expression marking 'Allegro appassionato' refers to the fundamental character of the piece which demands, in particular, an expressive vibrato rich in modulation.

In 1918-19, Gian Francesco Malipiero wrote a collection of seven songs, commonly known as Sette Canzoni. They were initially intended as a stand-alone work, but became incredibly popular when they wereincluded as the second act of the composer's opera L'Orfiede. However, in recent years the collection has come to be recognised in its own right as one of the composer's masterpieces.
Like all of the seven songs,the fifth, Serenata, is designed as an individual mini-opera. Scored for a solo Tenor with Piano accompaniment, it tells the story of a young lover serenading his beloved. At the same time, unknown to him, shesits inside lamenting the death of a relative.
Serenata has been translated from the original Italian into French by Henry Prunieres, and into English by Edwin Evans.

Singer Serenad Bagcan and Fazil Say recorded ten songs on texts by the most famous Turkish poests for the CD album Ilk Sarkilar (First Songs) in 2013. In these early compositions, Say lays the foundation for many melodic elements of later large-scale works such as the Nazim Oratorio and the etin Altiok Requiem. The style of these songs resembles French chansons and evokes a feel of world music. The cycle also makes for a rewarding collection of piano pieces when played without a singer. This original work for equal voices from the composer Guido Lopez Gavilan is a virtuoso composition, full of humor and lyricism. The composer uses onomatopoeic sounds that imitate the guitar and the mandolin, inst ruments that always accompany serenades and love songs. The poem describes a bucolic landscape and the verses alternate with vocal-instrumental interludes which help to build to an extraordinary sonic climax. The colorful harmonies are reminiscent of the impressionist language.

Jean Sibelius overall composed more than 100 solo songs for voice and piano. Volume 4 mostly contains first editions. These songs were generally unknown. Only a few of them have been available for performers in manuscript copies and have also appeared on concert programs. The volume contains also the first printed Sibelius' work Serenad and in contrast to the other two volumes with solo-songs it contains arrangements for voice and piano for the first time. Sibelius arranged three types of works for voice and piano: songs from incidental music, works for voice and piano, and one choral work. The arrangements were not made for the purpose of producing rehearsal scores, but rather as genuine concert pieces to be used in recitals. Rarely are such arrangements simply reductions of the orchestral score, as rehearsal scores tend to be. Instead, Sibelius gave the piano parts of his arrangements the same dedication and seriousness as he gave his solo songs. The independance of his arrangements is especially pointed to the very virtuoso piano part of the ballad Koskenlaskijan morsiamet Op. 33.
