The hymn tune Rhosymedre is the work of the nineteenth-century Anglican priest John David Edwards, who named it after the village of Rhosymedre in North Wales, where he served as the vicar for 43 years until his death in 1885. Vaughan Williams's organ prelude has been arranged for many different instrumental groups, including orchestra, string quartet and brass quintet, but not until now for brass band. This arrangement was prepared in 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of the composer's death and was first performed by the Royal Northern College of Music Brass Band at the 2008 RNCM Festival of Brass, conducted by Christopher Houlding.

Frontier Vision is a concert or contest piece based on three elements: the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day, the Martin Luther melody, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott) on whichthis composition is based, and thirdly the spreading of the evangelical movement in the late 19th century, of which the analogous storyline forms the structural basis of this work. Multi-cultural ethnic influences, along with the driving rhythms thatreflect the perseverance and hard work of those mission-minded pioneers, are both important components that make Frontier Vision an outstanding choice for your concert or contest. Frontier Vision was the test piece for the seconddivision in the Dutch National Brass Band Championships 2017.

Frontier Vision is een concert- of wedstrijdwerk ter gelegenheid van de 500ste hervormingsdag. Vijfhonderd jaar geleden presenteerde de Duitse theoloog Maarten Luther zijn 95 stellingen. Enkele jaren later schreef hij het lied ‘Ein Feste Burgist unser Gott’ Zijn werk vormde de basis van de verspreiding van een evangelische beweging over Noord-Amerika, eind 19e eeuw. Multiculturele etnische invloeden in combinatie met stuwende ritmes die de vasthoudendheid en het harde werk van pioniersmet een missie weerspiegelen, zijn belangrijke elementen die dit werk een uitstekende keus voor uw orkest maken. Frontier Vision was het verplichte werk voor de tweede divisie van de Nederlandse Brassband Kampioenschappen van 2017.

Frontier Vision war Pflichtstückin der Leistungsklasse 2 bei den Dutch National Brass Band Championships 2017.

Frontier Vision est une œuvre de concert ou de concours basée sur deux éléments : la commémoration du 500e anniversaire de la Fête de la Réforme et la mélodie de Martin Luther « C’est un rempart que notre Dieu » (Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott»). La composition repose sur cette mélodie connue et est aussi inspirée du mouvement évangélique qui s’est propagé la fin du XIXe siècle. Des allusions ces origines multiculturelles, ainsi que des rythmes forts qui représentent la persévéranceet le travail laborieux des pionniers menés par la mission forment des éléments importants qui font de Frontier Vision un choix excellent pour vos concerts ou vos concours. Cette œuvre était la pièce imposée de la deuxième division duChampionnat National de Brass Band des Pays-Bas en 2017.

Christmas is full of customs and traditions, both old and new. This is especially evident in Christmas songs, some of which have been part of Christian worship for centuries. A Medieval Christmas combines three ancient melodies that are stillpopular around the world today. Philip Sparke chose Gaudete, a song of praise from the middle ages, Coventry Carol, an English song from the 14th century, and In dulci jubilo, which can also be traced back to the 14th century, toform this joyous suite.

Kerst is een feest van tradities en gebruiken. Dit komt vooral naar voren uit de kerstliederen die al eeuwenlang een centrale plaats innemen binnen de christelijke cultuur. In A Medieval Christmas staan drie oude melodieën centraal diewereldwijd nog steeds populair zijn. Het zijn het middeleeuwse loflied Gaudete, het Engelse Coventry Carol en het bekende In dulci jubilo.

Weihnachten ist auch ein Fest des Brauchtums und der Tradition. Dies zeigt sich ganz besonders in den Weihnachtsliedern, die oft schon seit Jahrhunderten einen zentralen Platz in der christlichen Kultur einnehmen. A Medieval Christmasverwendet drei dieser alten Melodien, die sich heute noch weltweit größter Beliebtheit erfreuen: das mittelalterliche Loblied Gaudete, das englische Coventry Carol aus dem 14. Jahrhundert und das bekannte In dulci jubilo, dasebenfalls auf das 14. Jahrhundert zurückgeht.

The German Christmas song Von Himmel hoch, O Englein kommt is one of the oldest known German carols, with the earliest versions, also known as Susani, going back to the 14th century. This exceptional arrangement by Jan de Haan works extremely well for brass band and will make an ideal work for any Christmas concert.

Jan de Haan schrieb dieses besondere Arrangement des deutschen Weihnachtsliedes Vom Himmel hoch, o Englein kommt. In vierstimmigen Sätzen ist es für alle Arten von Orchester und Ensembles geeignet, so auch für Brass Band. Die Bearbeitung basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Weihnachtslied aus dem Cölner Gesangbuchâ?? von 1623, herausgegeben von Peter von Brachel.
